Shalladolin Khalinevar she/her
Hey there! I wanted to know if I can read Wax And Wayne without having read the original Mistborn books. I started mistborn but it just didn't pull me in like Stormlight Archive. The premise of Alloy of law is very interesting to me and I'd love to be able to read it right away. Thanks
StrikerEZ he/him
@Shalladolin Khalinevar Personally, I would wait to read Era 2 until after you've read Era 1. Era 2 is kind of its own thing, but reading it without reading Era 1 would be like watching the sequel Star Wars movies without watching the original. Era 2 works well on its own, but you're missing some very important information from Era 1.
CrazyRioter she/her
Yeah Era 2 basically assumes you've read Era 1, and it's going to be much better if you read Era 1 first.
goody153
It's not worth it tbh. One of the best selling points of Mistborn franchise was how the Mistborn Era 1 Trilogy was concluded. Imo it's actually better than Stormlight(despite it being the best-written stuff Sanderson has) in terms of how well-structured the plot is, the mystery/conspiracy and how tight it turned out to be. The moment you started Era 2 you basically lost the real selling point of Mistborn franchise. Since you are spoiled in all that happens of Era 1 in like first 50 pages or something without the careful pacing/climactic effects/foreshadowing you could've experienced it. It's pretty big deal. I'd say the culmination of Mistborn Trilogy is still so far the best thing that Sanderson has made IMO. Edited July 26, 2018 by goody153
Wander89 he/him
You're missing out on a fantastic trilogy if you don't read Era 1 and Era 2 is after this for a reason. Read Era 1 first, if you don't like it then even read a summary and start Era 2 but I would hold off. Era 1 was the first work from Sanderson I read and it got me into the Cosmere as a whole. DON'T miss out on that opportunity!
Leyrann
I actually finished my reread of Mistborn Era 1 last week, and though I of course remembered the story I didn't really remember any of the details. All I can say is that it was amazing and extremely well-thought out, to a degree far beyond what I remembered. Great cast, great worldbuilding, great story, and there's always another secret. (I actually read Hero of Ages in under 48 hours because it drew me in so much. A story where I already knew how it ended, mind you)
Fully_Invested
Echoing a lot of thoughts. The ending of book three was the most satisfying wrap-up (and twist) I've ever read. Starting with Era 2 would rob you that satisfaction.
