@mosaab as @Calderis said momentum has shifted. Besides for having his ability to act independently curtailed. Several tools have been taken from his tool box. He lost his ability to turn his armies and his enemies into unyielding berserkers. He also lost a tank in the thunderclast. I do not imagine that odium would be so eager to create another knowing that it would subtract from his power.

Things I'm curious about and that I think are important within a year's time:

1) Two hapless Heralds dropped off at Jasnah's feet.  Did they stay? Did they flee? Are they cooperative? Held prisoner?

2) Szeth, killer of many members of royal courts.  I have to assume the monarchs working with Dalinar are not pleased to see him.  Has he been doing penance for a year?

3)Has Shallan told anyone about the Ghostbloods? Bad to keep secrets from your husband, not to mention your cousin in-law and now queen who was quasi-murdered by them.

Agree most stuff going be a lot of gathering resources, setting up societies and politics, training troops/radiants/Listeners, researching, communications, etc.

Shallan was planning to come clean about the Ghostbloods, iirc, we shall have to see if she goes through with it.

Shallan needs to come clean about a lot of things really.

Agree that there will be consolidating and positioning.

I want to see more Radiants show up.

Since we also know that there will be a fifteen year break after the fifth book, it occurs to me that Kaladin's new kid brother will be the perfect age to start Knight Radianting at that point, freeing Kaladin from having to produce any next generation so he can die lonely concentrate on his job. But this makes me wonder if Shallan and Adolin will have a kid, since the NO MATING edict is no longer in effect.

I don't expect them to have a kid in the one year gap, but I'd be somewhat surprised if they didn't have at least one in the 15 year gap between the two arcs.

Assuming both of them live of course...

@mosaab I don't see a huge problem in having a time gap between books 3 and 4. There were time gaps between every book of the Mistborn series, and those worked out fine. What needs to happen between and Oathbringer and Song of Secrets (what I hope book 4 is called) is for both sides to regroup and strategize. Odium just lost two huge pieces on the board (Dalinar and Nergaoul), and his plans have drastically changed. His potential army just had a huge blow to morale because of the defeat at Thaylen City, so it will take lots of time to get them ready to fight. There will be reports of skirmishes in the time gap, too.

EDIT: There will also probably be lots of new Radiants in Urithiru, and there will most likely be some sort of structure to the Radiants. Kaladin will probably be the leader of the Windrunners, and the other orders will have some semblance of organization.

At some point Malata will get found out, Shallan is a mess but she does like sneaking so I could see her on the case. I don't think Malata would be killed in the gap, I see a duel in book 4 or 5 possibly with Adolin or a Skybreaker.

Taln would be helpful if he gets his mind back, not so sure about Ash. Obviously she will be eventually but she won't be eager like Taln.

I also assume secret emissaries will be sent to the Parshmen to try and break them away and Rlain movement, hopefully involving the Sibling because they need Urithiru working again.

I also see a Shallan relapse, she hasn't had her, I let elokhar die moment yet. Until then, she can't reassemble herself. Personally, I think it's going to involve Kaladin because until she permanently silences Veil, it won't work.

I hope we also find out the Ghostbloods are led by a certain one-eyed fellow who likes to punch people.

Development of the land that Kaladin is now lord over. It'd be nice that after the year gap Kaladin is actively transferring them to safety or retaking the actual land from the Singers. I think the Kaladin being a landed lord is going to be one of my favorite sub-plots in book 4 IF Brandon gives it enough spotlight.

I think it more likely Kaladin would try for peaceful coexistance on that land first than just reconquer it

Oh, I meant re-take not conquer. One of my pet theories is that Kaladin is going to use his land as kind of a refuge center for all the Listeners that don't want to fight and just want live a free life. While I expect some fighting with the actual ancient singers, I don't think a full on invasion is going to be needed.

Honestly that gap is pretty great imo. It gives enough time for everything on both sides to solidify for the most part. The KR will have decent numbers and so will the Voidbringers. Alliances will have fallen into place, people will have to unite themselves a little in that time before the real storm hits so we can read about it.

I'd like to see that. I'd like to see Kaladin coping with his new social status, instead of just ignoring it cause he's annoyed about it.

What do I want between book 3 and 4? A novella.

One of my biggest pet peeves from OB is how we see zero reactions to Szeth strolling around Urithiru as Dalinar's main guard. Now, I don't think that the rulers would really raise a stink about him being there, as when it is about survival people get their priorities in order pretty damnation quick. If asked "Do you want the assassin in white to fight us or them during the end of the world?" the answer would be quite obvious. However, some questions would need to be asked, some things (Truthless, followed orders WHO GAVE THOSE ORDERS) would need to be clarified for all the leaders of the human side, and yes, some things would need to be gotten off their chests. If grilling Szeth for a week and shouting at him would make the rulers feel better, then go for it, then have a clear head for the years to come. Rather than be suspicious of him for the next year.

So I'd say a novella starting when the battle of Thaylen city ends and ending about some time after the wedding would be good, as there are some questions that I just can't see easily shelved for a year, other than the Szeth issue which is my biggest point there are:

  • Dalinar to his sons: I killed your mother
  • Adolin's coronation as highprince (or whatever the term for that)
  • Shallan to her brothers: I know last time we met I was a 17 year old naive, innocent girl, but now I am a KR and the wife to a highprince. So...we should talk
  • Jasnah to Ash and Taln: I know who you are, spill
    • Ash and Taln to Jasnah/Dalinar/coalition: expect no help from us, we are a mess. Also, Jezrien is permanently dead, so we really may be on our last life.
  • Szeth to the coalition: the Skybreakers fight for the Singers this Desolation
    • Begin debate of how not all KR are innately fighting for the humans
  • Renarin's odd KR/voidbinder status can't also be parked for a year.
  • Additionally I really want Szeth to split the King's Drop with the Unmade inside with Nightblood. Shame for the gem, but lets be honest, we all know Nergaoul will eventually escape if he isn't killed for good.

So basically, have a lot of conversations just to wrap up loose ends that no-one would want to leave flying even for the end of the world.
