I was just in the coppermind when I saw a picture of both the adhesion surge glyph and void glyph.

I have a horrible time explaining things, but the void glyph looks like someone took the surge glyph, cut it in have vertically, flipped the right side sideways(?) and flipped the left side sideways(?) and upside down.

I am not at a computer to mess with the pictures, but are all the void glyphs just the surge glyph counterpart cut in some way and then rearranged?

Has this already been noticed and discussed?

Edit: you can really see this in the cohesion and devision glyphs.

Thanks for the link, some of the "thoughts" on there kind of made me roll my eyes now that the second book is out. I am also wondering, now that we have slightly more information about the surges, what people think the meaning is behind the similarities and differences of the surge glyphs and the "void" glyphs.

Honestly, I don't think we know enough. I suspect that we will find ten different voids, somehow corresponding to the ten surges.

Woah, almost spoiler the Stormlight out of this, didn't realize it's not in the WoR forum. I think I need to head there and form a theory...

Void glyphs have rotational symmetry, but surge glyphs have mirror symmetry.  Not sure if much can be drawn forth from that other than it appears to be a way of grouping them in different classes while still maintaining the note of symmetry as being fundamental to Roshar.

I had been wondering if rotational vs mirror symmetry was a Shadesmar vs Roshar (or cognitive vs physical, I guess) thing, though I don't really have any reason to associate the void glyphs with Shadesmar other than the similar aesthetics of the voidbinding chart and the Shadesmar map. It's probably worth noting that Pattern is rotationally symmetric as well, and that the shapes of the Dawncities seem to be both.
