All started from Infinity Blade...

Hey all,

I'm about 3/4 the way through Oathbringer and I finally decided I HAD to join a forum. WAY too much stuff going on!! All the questions I have! I need theories!!

Anyway - I started with Sanderson (believe it or not) from a novella written for an iPhone game - Infinity Blade. I LOVED Infinity Blade and I saw that they were making a short book around it. The first chapter or so, I really connected with the writing style. As we all know - not every writing style clicks with us. Sometimes it's too simple, sometimes too complex, sometimes it doesn't feel write. Well - Sanderson's writing style really clicked with me. The book was a really fun sequel to Infinity Blade before the next game came out.

Fast forward a couple years - a friend recommends a really neat book series about being able to use superpowers by ingesting metals.... another Brandon Sanderson book!! Loved the writing, love the characters, loved the story!

Fast forward probably another 4 years -- Way of Kings. Was very intimidated by the size - but decided to try it out and LOVED it!! And then about 1/2 way through the book after doing some online searching about who this "Hoid" character is I found that Mistborn and Way of Kings are connected?!?! AND there are several other books connected in the same universe?!

I am loving Stormlight Archive a ton. Each of the characters are amazing. Currently I'm reading them in Audiobook format because I don't have the time anymore to do book form (Mistborn trilogy I did all paperback). Planning on reading (listening to) Mistborn again after Oathbringer - then maybe move onto Elantris or one of the others I haven't read yet in the Cosmere (any recommendations?).

One final thought before I leave... How is Warbreaker not "required" reading before Oathbringer??? Whenever found out that some characters make an appearance in Words of Radiance (I think that's the first appearance) I immediately started Warbreaker before moving onto Oathbringer. Now that I'm 3/4 through Oathbringer - there are SO many references to Warbreaker!  I definitely understand not needing to be required reading, but should be strongly recommended.

Welcome! Would you like a hemalurgy-free cookie? It's like a normal cookie, except it isn't spiked so it's much healthier for you.

I agree with you on the Warbreaker point. I'm a supporter of reading Warbreaker near the beginning of your Sanderfandom, not just because it's a good introduction to the cosmere, but for the reasons you mentioned as well.

Welcome! Ignore anyone who says to ignore anyone who says to beware of cookies.

Also, "this 'Hoid' character" is one of the most beloved people on the Shard for many reasons.

EDIT: He's not actually on the Shard. (At least not openly...) We'd probably all have heart attacks if he was.
