Marsh wanted that cat.

Star reminded Marsh that they already had 6 cats.

But Marsh knew that you can never have enough cats.

Star warned Marsh that Stick was a Narrator. He was a powerful being. Marsh shouldn't tamper with the story. If he wanted another cat, then Star would create one for him with her own Narrator powers.

But Marsh didn’t want a magic mind cat. He wanted Stick’s cat!
