"That is a slightly patronizing understatement, but mostly true." Rebus began to walk away. "If you want to make a deal with me, feel free. Otherwise, I have more important things to attend to." Rebus watched, feeling triumphant and a little guilty. He didn't usually get guilty, but this was an Author, with real feelings. Broken Glass... he though to himself. Rebus almost stopped them for leaving, but let them go. He would need someone to fight, after all. So he watched Cricket's internal monologue - it was quite a good monologue. But destroying Rebus's world? That had already been done... Rebus turned to Atredies, Antagonist - a crown of darkly glowing metal that came to vicious upward points - appearing on his head. "Now then. I've bested you - and almost everyone else who has tried to oppose me. If you swallow your pride, I have a job for you. Otherwise..." Rebus's grin was just as sharp and evil as his crown.
