I feel like it makes more sense for it to lie in the center of the axes than it does for it to somehow be unrelated but still fundamental. That would have the properties you want, I feel. The Shapers, though, have obviously been tipped towards Chaotic Darkness, and the Fragment of Corruption even more so. A desire to destroy everything is the very definition of Chaotic Darkness. 

The orb tried to figure out how to interface with them. 
“My apologies, Bacon.” Rebus looked not very apologetic. “Platypus made what I believe is Pure Darkness, and teleported it in front of every Narrator. It destroys Plotblades - I needed to borrow yours because mine was already used up in doing so.” 

Yeah it can lie in the center. Only the Fragment of Corruption is in Chaotic Darkness. In intent, not power. Only those holding the Fragment want to destroy/corrupt everything.

"Oh, calm down," he said, tossing his long, luscious hair. He wore a red suit coat. "Let's get introductions out of the way. My name is Xanther Renthax. You're Tam Lennox, and you're Bat Whitlock. Wonderful to finally meet you both, even if I personally would have postponed this meeting. Now--- I believe there's a party going on? Shall we go?" 

Bat just stared at him. 

Symbol greeted him in the courtyard of her castle with the same enthusiasm. "Wonderful of you to come! Happy 4000 pages!" 

"Anything you can think of," she replied cheerfully. "Unspecified food and beverages, including but not limited to roast beef, cider, wine, cheese, pineapples..." she looked around. She wouldn't mind meeting Selppaenip here, too. "Anything you want. We have music and dancing, too!" 

"What an excellent party!" remarked Bacon, looking around. "Many new faces, I see- could you introduce me?"

Bat pulled his out and did the same, as did Xanther.

"Welcome to my castle!" Symbol greeted, spreading her arms. They stood in a very nice courtyard surrounded by a lush garden and overlooked by a grand castle. "And happy 4000 pages!" 

"Yes, yes, thank you," Xanther said, waving his hand. "What is the point of this party, here?" 

"Um..." Symbol slowly dropped her hands back to her sides. "To celebrate? And talk? Y'know, take a break from the crazy?"

He sighed. "I should have never come." 

"We could go back," Bat offered.

"Too late," he declared. "I'm already here." He purposefully stalked off to find something alcoholic.
