He frowned, shaking his head. “No, it’s not hot enough.”

Pausing, he followed the river with his eyes. “Maybe we should follow it to its source.”

She nods standing up “yeah…. Thats gonna take a bit to walk.”

"Well, It comes with someone kill/mind controlling all of you friends and loved ones when you used to see them as a friend." Muin said with a strange biterness in his voice. "Last thing-when will I have to give you my help?"

Rebus did not think that bitterness was particularly strange, considering the circumstances. “As soon as you can, but that can be done here and takes mere seconds. Likewise I shall give you the cores as soon as I can - which is as soon as I have your help.”

"Wonderful. I, Muin, Agree." Muin says

“I, Rebus, also agree.” Something happened, and Muin’s powers briefly weakened. “I now possess your help - I shall use it to perform the experiment. Here are your cores.” Rebus put his hands out, and two fist-sized crystals appeared over them. One was shining in every color Muin could think of or perceive, loops of magic more meaningful that could merely be seen continuously moving around and through it. The other was very very black, an aura around it removing color and dimming light that passed near it.

Pyk nodded. “I am… hesitant… to continue…”

Asher grabbed his hand and put her other on his bicep. “Why? What’s wrong?”

"Why did my powers dampen?" Muin said.

"The stones, as far as I know, can't know anything at all."

He decided to not point out that he could, in fact, read minds.

"Well don't tell them that, you might hurt their feelings."

“Because I need them for the experiment - I posses that instant of magic, which I can use to mess with my own powers. Willing agreement - when combined with magic - can do wonders. You can still help people and use your powers, if you’re worried about that.” Rebus did not look particularly sorry, but he wasn’t smug either.

He frowned. “This… it reminds me of the… the golden crystals and Strands…”

“Silver please tell me what those are.” She whispers to silver

[Strands are a dangerous and bloodthirsty manifestation of ordered and disordered destruction.]

“What about the golden crystals”

[Those hold the Strands.]

She nods then gives pyks arm a squeeze “don’t worry pyk. We got this. There nothing we cant handle.”

"Alright."

Come morning, Taeidin began wandering off in a direction that was sharply left of the way that he was going before.

Utility had stood dutifully in front of the cave all night, having not previously been aware of the passing of time.

He followed.

"HOW LONG. HOW LONG, REBUS. HOW LONG." Muin says, seeming suprisingly angry

Muin’s powers were already back. “I told you - a few seconds. What I’m attempting to do is combine Chaotic Light with Ordered Darkness in order to make an emulsifier, which I can then use to combine them further. To break them on just that boundary requires very little time, really.”

Taeidin walked in that direction for hours before stopping. He pulled some of the stones out of his pouch. Taeidin then tossed them in the air, scattering them all around. He began muttering to himself and pointing at them in turn.

Kiri woke up again, having dozed off in the calm after that weirdo's disappearance. She got up and started looking for an exit.

The weirdo, having popped back in, points toward the shadows at the back. "The way out's that way, if that's what yer lookin' for."
