No questions asked.” Rebus’s face was serious for a moment, then he smiled, almost sarcastically. “I don’t know if you’re still going to help me, but if not Artredies just lost his plot armor.”

He let himself be hugged, surprised, tensing, but slowly relaxing. That felt good. How long had it been since he had been hugged? He had hugged, sure, but been hugged? It felt nice to... No. He couldn't let himself grow more attached. When he died, he didn't want to break her heart. He sighed, and gently let go.
