Rose followed.

Cricket knelt by the spring in the oasis, drinking cool, clear water.

She shrugged and ripped the dress at the knees, pulling off the petticoats. She wore leggings underneath, so it was fine. She also kicked off the fancy shoes. After some thought, she retrieved them and picked off all the gems. "In case we need money," she explained. 

Destroying those shoes seemed to make her happy.

"They're heels. And I hate them." She ripped the sleeves off of the dress for good measure. "I wanna go shopping and get some real clothes."

"Who are you, then?" Cricket replied, cooly, smoothly resheathing his knife. He had been tricked one to many times too trust anyone. This would not be like Malevolence.
