He felt awful for some reason.

He kept walking for a few minutes. He'd asked for this. Still, it had been nice to talk to someone who just saw him as a person again. That hadn't happened for years.

"I killed a lot of people. I burned a city to the ground. I killed enemies, innocents, children, and those I had once considered friends. All to try and save someone." He looked up at the sky. "Who knows? If she had been dead I might not have stopped."

He looked back at the ground, and kept walking, his face burning with shame.

She nosed his face, then licked his nose with her skinny forked tongue. "My mommy killed people too. I didn't like it, but I loved her anyway."

She pulled herself around and shoved her snout under the collar of the back of his shirt with a little whimper.

"They took her from me. They took my sister." His face contorted into a horrible grimace, "I burned them."
