“No, I mean… you killed him, right? How did you feel about that when you found out? How do you feel about it now?”

She closed her eyes and shrugged. "I-I don't know. I just felt sort of . . . sort of . . . hopeless and sick with myself."

"Um . . . well . . . Stone showed up back in the ocean and threatened to kill you, which had me really worried . . . a-and then when we all went to the forest and fought it was really chaotic and I panicked when he Nullified me both times and I felt really sick and dizzy and then I was panicking when he shot you and stabbed Cricket and- and . . . and then I woke up and Cricket was sitting next to me . . ." She looked down at the ground.

Yes, we do . . .

*cough*

um imma go to bed after this post, so . . .

'Night!

She nodded.

"I c-could say the same to you!"

"That's different. I have a mission: protect you. When Stone went after you, that was my fault, so when more hunters come after you, also my fault."

She sighed, still shaking.

“So you saw it as something disgusting you did?” He scrawled on the notebook. “Okay, Cricket, your turn. What do you think of it?”

"It... was not a good thing, but necessary. We couldn't beat Stone, and... look, Tam overreacted, but that's okay. We all make mistakes."

“So she made a mistake, but the outcome was good because she saved us.” He looked up. “How I see it, you lost control. Which… honestly is really scary. But you also saved my life, and Cricket’s. And you found out that you’re a lot more powerful than you thought you were. All you have to do now is master that.” He closed the notebook. “Killing is awful. It is. I’m not gonna say it isn’t. But he was gonna do that to Cricket— and he was gonna kill me for fun. So… nobody’s perfect, right? At least you’re trying to be a good person. And you saved us. That’s good, right?”

When I wrote that, I had believed she would stay in possession of the bag for a least long enough to fully inventory it.

Sagerian writes that down, then temporarily runs out of things to say.
My first idea upon hearing this is to pipe blood around and have these people serve as communication networks, as well as slowly accumulate knowledge. It’s a silly idea though, and Sagerian has never used a computer, so he wouldn’t know it to be useful.

It’s feasible… but like…

You would need to really trust the network of people.

”The final thing I’ve noticed about myself is that unpressurized or nonorganic containment, any of my genetic material just…” He mimicked a poof, “dissapates.”

Sagerian writes that down. “What do you mean by nonorganic containment? Can you convert plants?”

“See? All that matters now is that you try to do better.”

She pulled the blanket a little closer, though she wasn't any colder.

"I-I know. That doesn't change how I feel about it though . . ."

Speaking of which, she . . . actually felt a little warmer.

Not much, but it was something.

"Does it? If you say you can't blame me for killing someone who had practically enslaved me and almost beat me to death, why can't I say the same to you? In the heat of battle, you overreact."

Bat scooted around to sit next to her. “I know it doesn’t change anything. Not really. But… don’t ignore it, okay? And every time you think about it, remember you saved our lives. That might help you work through it.

“Exactly.”

Bat loved traveling with two people who were both good at talking.

Cricket was not good at talking. He just tried harder for people he cared about.

Goodnight. Thank you.

She laid down and tried to go to sleep-

-but she was still shivering. Less so, but still- and it kept her up.

Eventually though, she gave in and finally Narrated herself to sleep.

Bat always woke up early. Often, at least. He was very tempted to shake both of his friends awake to make sure they weren’t dead… but if they weren’t dead, they needed sleep. So he moved to the other side of the barn and wondered why there was a wooden flute in his bag, because he didn’t play the flute.

Tam kept sleeping. She was very tired- and also trembling slightly in her sleep.

Poor girl though 🥲

He sighed, trying to find a comfortable position. The sleeping pills kicked in, though, and ignoring the pain, he finally fell asleep.
