Hmm.

Remember everything we've talked about, she commanded him.

Template’s memory reverted to its true state, they are more confused than before. “How did that happen? Who is Onyx - why did I mention him?”
I’m going to sleep now. Good night!

I . . . don't think so. Maybe, but I don't think so.

Her smile fell and she didn't respond.

Cricket grimaced. Too much?

You didn't know who he was? Tam asked, a little disturbed.

Don't joke about that.

Sorry. he said, taken aback. Though at least now I have a plan forward.

That's good, she said flatly.

What is it?

Let the Enullers train me, then bait the hunters to me and stop them. Then I find their boss' location and end him. Simple, but I think it'll work.

Yeah, simple, she replied, voice void of emotion.

Cricket kicked a rock, cursing. He was an idiot.

She sighed. Sorry- I just . . . be careful, okay?

I know. I'm an idiot who lets his mouth run on sometimes. I'm sorry about that, it's just... sometimes I feel more comfortable confronting issues than letting than simmer.

No, i-it's fine. We've all done stuff like that.

Not like that. I did it earlier too, with Beosta. I'm just so shaken up with everything that's been happening recently, and I haven't been sleeping, that I'm making mistakes. More than usual.

Oh. I hadn't realized. I'm sorry.

You're good. It's all my fault. I'll try my best to keep my tongue under control.

Well . . . That hadn't been exactly the reaction she'd hoped for.

Okay, she said instead.

he's really scatterbrained rn

He sat down on a rock, and sighed. Listen, I'm exhausted. Exhausted of chaos, and death. I just wished my life was a little bit simpler. If I make a few mistakes here and now, it's cause I'm stressed, and focused on other things. I... wish I didn't feel like the weight of a world wasn't on my shoulders.

I bet

I know, she said sadly. I'm not faulting you for any of that, Cricket.

Thanks. All... all I can think about is the millions of deaths I've caused. Every night. That and Telse. Because of me, Welderan was destroyed. Every innocent who had never been within a thousand miles of me died. And it's my fault. Nothing will justify that.

A jolt went through her.

Tam, the entire planet was destroyed, because I took shelter there. The hunters, they destroyed the Heart, the thing that kept Welderan alive, in revenge.

She felt a sort of shock, a coldness that ran all the way through her.

Welderan- Cricket, I thought they destroyed a village, not an entire scudding planet!

Don't you see now? Why Fael hates me, why I can't sleep at night. I was stupid. I never should have left my guard down. Never should have stopped running.

The coldness Tam felt was suddenly replaced by a deep, burning hatred. She didn't respond.
