"I could fix it for you Asher. Your problems may be relieved from you. You don't just have to 'Live with it' as you seem to assume you must. I can bring them Back." The voicer is sickening, almost hypnotic.

From death, the voice sounds again, "You want revenge for your death."

If you want you can let me know if you don't to have them brought back to life.

Cricket gazed around, and stepped out of the courtyard. Immediately, the world shifted, becoming a barren, dark version of the previous landscape, the trees withering, the sun going dark. Cricket gasped. "Is this what you wanted?"

Perhaps, said the doctor slowly. Is this how you perceive your abilities? A destructive power?

That gave Aelinor pause, and she turned around to look at the Enuller as well as Unintelligible. She sighed and walked up to the door, opening it.

“I suppose you’re the doctor?”

I am. Would you like me to come inside?

Wait wait wait! I’m not trustworthy? Offend! Boots! Okay. Sorry. But I can tell you what that crystal is!

You probably wouldn’t be willing to take the… personal steps required to  study it. Like eating it.

The note, having reappeared, vanished again.

Somehow I doubt you will tell me for free.

The Emperor appears beside the river. There is no sound save for that of the wildlife one would normally find in a forest, and no sign of any intelligent life. A songbird flutters down to land on a branch in front of him and begins singing a beautiful melody.

The traveler narrows her eyes at Hacob. "I'm asking Narrators why we should care about people. I figured you'd be a terrible person to ask, but I'm also getting pretty desperate, so... yeah."

"Oh." Subversion set her pen down sadly. "I doubt you'll let me have it then."

The Ennuller gave Subversion a look and didn't say anything.

Then it burst into flames and collapsed in a pile of ash.

Bacon blinked. "Wait, come back!"

Unintelligible teleported away back to Sequence . . .

Aelinor nodded, holding open the door to allow them inside. "This way," she said, leading them down the dark hallway to a bedroom, where Sequence laid on the bed sleeping. Aelinor gently nudged her shoulder. "The doctor is here." Sequence groaned and sat up with a gentle fit of coughing.

He paused, then realized he'd gotten off topic.

"But I digress. The Thread is important because it brings joy to our Authors. And I have a lot better things happen to me when my Author is happy. So if you care about yourself, than the Thread is important, and if you care about your Author, the Thread is important. “Art matters,” the traveler’s grey eyes says softly. “But whether it depicts suffering or joy, utmost delight or abject despair, it can still be a masterwork. The worth of art, if measured in any way, should be measured in the emotion it evokes. But why then does happiness matter? Tragedy can evoke emotions just as well.”

Aelinor stepped back and Sequence rubbed her eyes wearily before seeing Unintelligible and the Enuller. "Ah, hello again! Is this the doctor?" She paused to cough into her elbow. She came back looking a little bit dizzy. "Unintelligible... Unintelligible... We've never given you a nickname, have we? Maybe you need one... Unintell- Unintellbib- Agh. A little bit of a mouthful, don't you think?" More coughing.

Owen visualizes more cookies, but nothing happens. “What makes someone become a Narrator?”

Rebus laughs and hits a button labeled “electrolaser”. Nine glowing streaks fly out into the sky as the music quiets. It swells dramatically again as the glowing dots assemble and lightning crackles between them. “TLT” is written in the sky in electricity, and crack of thunder rings out. Smaller, ordinary explosions write “light show, by Rebus” in smaller letters below it. Rebus smirks and gestures to a row of buttons. “I’ll let you pick the next sequence.” The five buttons say “boring”, “pond”, “portals”, “star”, and “multi-stage”, respectively. A larger button below the row says finale.

Owen frowns back, wondering what he could have done to cause such a reaction.

I'll answer this once rebus vanishes

In that case, Beosta narrowed her eyes at Owen.

That was very suspicious.

Maybe she should stab him.

A key turned in the lock, and a man stepped through the doorway. The resemblance to Beosta was very prevalent, though his hair was lighter and his eyes green instead of brown. His eyebrows lifted when he saw them all, and he broke into a grin when he saw Beosta.
