On a chair across from his couch, a guy in a blue hoodie sat. He had been tasked with watching over Shoe to make sure nothing happened. Not that it would, but just to be certain. The person was idly fidgeting with a piece of paper in his hands, only half paying attention.

Beosta came back in to check on Shoe and noticed the person. She narrowed her eyes at him and leaned against the wall.

The person looked thoughtful. “Would you consider this drive to be an emotion? Because I have gotten quite good at suppressing them. I could help if that were the origin of your desire to combat the mage.”

The Render tries to also look thoughtful. Its shape and emotions are not truly correlated, however, so it fails. “It is a pull, a drive to even the balance. Emotions are … new to me, but this is not quite like them. Your plan may work, however.”

I was thinking just cover the thing in aluminum and call it a day, but that works too. I don’t even know if aluminum would counter it, not being from the Cosmere and all. It certainly wouldn’t where it comes from, but here it may.
Alright I’m actually going to sleep now. Good night to those who should be as well.

It was a good thing Shoe was asleep, or he'd have been really creeped out.

She gasped, falling to her knees.

"Cricket . . . no," she wheezed, trying to find some reason to . . . well, make him see reason.

"Besides . . . you can't just leave me here!"

Cricket wiped away a tear. "The Enulling will stop effecting you as soon as I am gone. Tam, I'm... I'm... sorry." he said, turning away. "I'm sorry it had to end like this."

He frowned. “I apologize- H-Have I done something wrong?” He continued to fidget with the piece of paper, folding it and tearing it in places. “I-I was just asked to keep an eye on that one on the couch.” He pointed to Shoe. “Sequence is busy. I-I’m one of hers, if that wasn’t clear. … No, that’s not right, I’m one of her… friends..? Employees… Uh…” The person buried his head in his hands, looking tired and overwhelmed.

“Well, I can keep an eye on him just fine.” She paused, noticing his distress. “Are you… okay?”

The person nodded, and gave a wave of their hand. Their power to suppress emotion was inherently meant for organic brains and consciousness, so whether or not that affected the Render was unknown.

Goodnight! :D

He nodded. “Yes yes, I’m fine. Now that you’re here I can leave, if you wish.” He began to stand up to go, gently placing his piece of paper on a table beside his chair.

“Yeah, bye.” She waited for him to leave, then sat down and picked up the paper.

The person awkwardly shuffled away and promptly vanished in a puff of blue smoke. The paper was nothing special. Partially crinkled, ripped in places, and smeared with blood on the inside of the folded part. … Very normal. There was some black residue on the paper as well, which seemed to be slowly eating away at it.

Beosta set it back down. That was rather suspicious.

Indeed! At least that was the end of it. Until Beosta caught a whiff of the black residue, however. Even the smallest vapor was extremely unpleasant to breathe in. It seared the throat and eyes and also gave one the uncontrollable urge to gag for some reason. And upon closer inspection, there was more of it. On the floor, the sofa, the table, little speckles of it dotted around this small space.

"But it's still your choice . . . at least let me come with you?"

A copy of Sequence appeared, as she had the wonderfully useful Narrative ability of dividing her attention among several different things!

“Hi Beosta!” She said brightly. “How’s it going? How’s Shoe?”

“Prolly gonna be really mad at me,” she said. “So yeah, looking forward to that. On to more important questions. Why was one of your people watching him sleep with that?” She pointed at the paper.

Cricket closed his eyes. She sounded so earnest, so pleading... No. He would not, could not let Tam get hurt. "I'm sorry." he whispered, a final time, before stepping through the portal and closing it behind him.

He appeared in an old glade. It was random, but he needed time to think. Tam was so... No. He couldn't afford to think about Tam. That part of his life was over. He had no real plan how to fight back, but he had an idea. A desperate idea. He sighed, calling out an old name. "Bacon the Bard! Bacon the Bard! Bacon the Bard!" It was time to go to war.

Sequence narrowed her eyes, picking up the paper and examining it. She immediately gagged and burst into a fit of coughing. She threw the piece of paper across the room and flicked her wrist, and with that, it burst into flames and quickly disappeared.

“Storms- Ack!! What in the-“ She looked around, spotting the other patches of black residue with alarm. “Oh goodness- You didn’t breathe any in, did you?”

“A- a little,” Beosta said, worried. “Why? What does it do?”

“It stinks.” Sequence wrinkled her nose. “It also might dissolve living tissue.” She examined the floor, trying to find more.

theres enough that it’d probably be bothersome to him, but maybe whether or not it’s near enough to cause harm should be up to glass?

Beosta swore several times. “Well, can you get rid of it??”

Sequence looked at a small pool of it that was on the floor between the coffee table and the couch closely. Soon after, she recoiled and gagged again. “Rusts!! Eugh.. I, uhhh… I think I might know what this is. And if I’m right, the answer is no.” She cleared her throat, then took a deep breath and shouted a string of words in an indecipherable language. Three people then appeared before her.

Fuzzy, a short woman with frizzy blond hair; Everyone, a tall person with short, stringy black hair and dull crimson eyes, and also the same person who had been watching over Shoe. Fuzzy looked confused, Everyone looked bored and slightly annoyed, and the person, well, he looked terrified. His hair was a similar color as Fuzzy’s, but was straight and shoulder length, and he wore a blue hoodie as he fidgeted with his hands nervously.

“WHAT on the forever unwinding Thread is THIS?” Sequence asked the trio, pointing to the puddle of black residue.

“Him,” Beosta snarled. “It was him. Can you at least move Shoe away from this mess?” Her hand vanished beneath her cloak and she stared intently at the man, clearly wishing him harm.
