Rhazien watched a Mace became a blur. He skidded do a stop. Cocking an eyebrow at Mace, he disappear once more into shadesmar. He reappears several feet in front of Mace falling into vinestance. Rhazien watches Mace carefully for his next move. Unsure what will come but knowing that he faces a dangerous foe.

I really wish I'd remembered to bring a weapon, I think to myself. I started filling my metalmind with heat to keep my body at a normal temperature as the coal burned around me. Drawing on stored senses, I watched my foe carefully, ready for the first twitch of movement. Then, I started kicking the rocks - punting them in Rhazien's direction. It may not be the most deadly attack, but I was feeling distracted at the moment. Something keeps whispering in my head and my joints ached.

Rhazien acted from years of training, specific training the god of kindness had given him. Math, science and the like. Logic. It was what attracted his Spren and he reasoned would win the battle. Atha formed into a bat and he hit the piece if coal back at Mace, aim directly at the man's chest.

And thus the battle was own and the game of baseball invented at the same time.

@Archer Your turn friend.

I saw the swing of the bat with enhanced eyes.

I decreased my weight to nearly nothing.

I pushed back on the ground.

The coal hit.

But instead of resisting the blow, I flew backwards with it.

Pain. Anger. Preciously little health left. But above all, determination. Lying several meters away, looking up at the sky, I knew what I had to do.

keep your distance. Atha whispered in his mind. Rhazien stood where he was unmoving. Watching carefully, unblinking. Soon the battle would be over. He felt in his bones. His logical reasoning said otherwise and he trusted logical side more than the emotional one. He reached down and picked up another piece of coal. Atha changed into a sling an Rhazien slung some coal at the man on the ground.

We really need @MacThorstenson here. Without a mediator, it's just you two coming up with clever ways to attack and respond. For all we know, you both died a very long time ago.

Edit: Oh, 300th post! Yay!

Huh. Not where I expected this battle to end up. Two men standing in a field chucking rocks at each other. But if the man with the big sword wants to keep his distance, who am I to complain?

I rolled over and stumbled to my feet. I was aware of the rocks pinging off the ground around me. Luckily, it looked like unevenly sized rocks were a poor projectile to try and aim. With a roar of defience, I sprinted away in the opposite direction of my foe, listening closely for any sound of movement from him. Think you can chase me with your teleportation magic? I wonder what happens if you're victim is ready for you when you appear. As soon as I sense you disappear, I'm going to drop and sweep my legs about to trip you up, I thought to myself. Nothing beats a good internal monologue when you're running for your life.

Rhazien sighed as he watched Mace flee. He changed his bat into a Athaspear. "Atha I need you to change into a ball and chain before you hit his feet." yes of course, as you command. Hefting the spear he threw it at Mace's feet. Afterwards disappeared into shadesmar and reappeared a few yards in front of Mace.

Rhazien's throw flew true. My legs stung and I fell, but I used the momentum I'd gained from running, channeling it into a roll. I tucked my head in and went head over heels forward. Rhazien suddenly appeared, standing directly in my way. I crashed into him.

It was unexpected to be crashed into. He fell to the ground. Rhazien groan. He hadn't expected the fight to go on this long. He was tired an mad worn out. Storm light help him combat this but there was little it could do as it accumulated. He stood shakily. Mace was still on the ground tied by his feet. He walked over to him and summoned his Athablade. He put it beneath the mans chin. "Yield"

Good game Mraize.

Spit in his face, a small voice in my head whispers. I ignore it. After trying to wiggle free of my restraints for a few moments, I give up. Looking into my opponent's eyes, I know that I am beat. Most of my metalminds are depleted, and then there's that sword... With a sigh I slump on the ground at his feet. "mhhp psst mraihh" I mumble. Realizing my foe probably didn't understand a word of what I'd said with my face in the dirt, I lean my head up to look at him. From the low angle, I have a good view of his dust covered legs. "Well played Rhazien. Your training does you cre-" I draw on my remaining reserves of weight and strength, then smash my head into his foot. "Seriously? Did you really think I'd stop being a scrappy fighter just because you restrained me? Did you not - oof" Rhazien, limping slightly much to my satisfaction, punches me in the chin. As he brings his weapon to bear, I shout, "Okay, okay. You win. I YEILD! THE WINNER OF THIS FIGHT IS RHAZIEN!"

I didn't think you'd yield:wacko:

The bones in his foot were shattered. Making it nearly impossible to walk or to keep himself upright. He did so anyways, fighting through the pain. In response he decked Mace. As he brings his weapon to bear, Mace shouts, "Okay, okay. You win. I YEILD! THE WINNER OF THIS FIGHT IS RHAZIEN!"

Shock floods him. He hadn't expected himself to win. He was ready to fight till he lay bloodied on the floor of the arena without stormlight. Rhazien dismissed the bonds on Maces feet, and healed his own. He offered a hand to his opponent.

"Well fought. I didn't think you could fight so well, perhaps you would like to spar sometime?" He said as medical personnel ran over with stormlight and gold metalminds.

Mwa ha ha!!! My vote was correct!!! Also, wasn’t the point to test how the mediator system would work? Not everyone is going to give up as easy as Archer.

I'd run out of ideas at that point. I considered crushing you in a super heavy bear hug, but I figured that would lead to my being impaled.

"I'm sure we'll meet in battle soon enough Rhazien. Next time, I'll remember to bring a weapon."

Mace drops character.

YOU VOTED AGAINST ME? HOW DARE YOU?!? That's okay, I would have done the same thing myself if I was in your shoes.

Postgame thoughts anyone? Ways to improve the system?

For a game without a mediator, that went pretty well. There was a hesitance to harm the other player (mraize would say 'hacked at Archer' instead of 'hacked off a limb') This changed the dynamic, made it more all or nothing. To win you needed a checkmate instead of a series of small victories.

Mraize's fighting was well done. It was creative, effective, and he reacted well to any ahem surprises. I especially liked the different weapons he formed. I expect had I attacked him more traditionally he would have gotten more swordplay in, but what we did worked well too.

Italics to share your thoughts works well. If you wanted to plan an attack, Eg sweep his legs out from under him when he teleport, you could put it in a spoiler tag so that the member you fight doesn't see it, but you still get credit for having successfully for the eventuality that transpires.

The arena is a good location to fight in. That said, anyone who needs metal to fight (coinshot etc) will need the locations of any metals around the arena laid out for them prior to the fight.

That was one of them, yes. Another was to show the system. In up coming battles one will have around 100hp when that hit 0 the person falls unconscious. The mediator will decide how much a attack takes from hp.

As for how Archer/Mace preformed, I think he did pretty well seeing as this was one of his first RPs. I like the was he used his metalminds in creative ways ie. burning away the cloak, (I'll have to get those back you know? <_<) or skimming to fly or allowing things to force it to carry you. Well done. I think this went well.

As for planning the attacks, spoilers should work but if your opponent sees them, please no meta playing.

could a character still (theoretically) die?

The damage would have to exceed 0 by quite a lot. like 75hp in the hole with 50 hp having a mortal injury

I think duels to the death will just die at 0 HP.

I apologize for not being present everyone. I lost connection to WiFi and internet a day earlier then I expected and I wasn’t able to be here to mediate, at least for the beginning.

I completely agree with archer, the game went well for one without a mediator, and if there was one the fight would have gone smoother. I won’t be able to consistently be on until 2 more days sorry.
