So I recently started wondering what determines the color of a shardblade. Are all shardblades of the same order the same color? Are all shardblades period the same color? Does the color differ based on spren or Radiant preference?

Do the base colors correspond to their gem's color?

Yes. Pattern glows with a garnet light when we see him in the chasms. I assume Syl with sapphire.

Yeah, Radiant Blade and Plate glows with the color of the Order's associated polestone. We see it in Dalinar's visions (with Stonewards for example) as well as Syl, Pattern etc. The actual metal is uncolored; when Shardplate is described as being colorful it's always dead Plate and it's explicitly been painted to achieve that effect.

Shallan's eyes stay blue, because the part of her spiritweb responsible for the eye color thing has already been written to be blue.  The Lightweaver color doesn't over-write it, for whatever reason.

Human red hair is generally orangish, rather than red, too :)

Ive been wondering for a while if this is actually the case on Roshar. Singers are described as having red or black hair strands, and I always imagined that to mean actual red instead of orange. We know horneaters are a human singer hybrid, and that lots of Vedens  with red hair get it from their horneaters neighbours. Maybe Rock and Shallan have actual red hair.
