InfernalCrackLED Posted November 30, 2017 Posted November 30, 2017 Do we know what metal is used to block the Blue/yellow void spren from sensing the soulcasters? If not, are there any theories on it?
Brgst13 Posted November 30, 2017 Posted November 30, 2017 Usually when a metal is being used like that it's aluminum.
Bean Delphiki he/him Posted November 30, 2017 Posted November 30, 2017 Based on what we've seen and learned from other books, I'd say it's almost definitely aluminum.

InfernalCrackLED Posted November 30, 2017 Author Posted November 30, 2017 I appreciate the quick response. Is this based on the idea from Mistborn that it is "allomantically inert"? That's the direction I was going with this in my head. I don't remember for sure, but I'm pretty sure Vivenna said she got it from Hoid.
InfernalCrackLED Posted November 30, 2017 Author Posted November 30, 2017 I also just read a question and answer to and from Sanderson mentioning that a Shardblade would not cut aluminum, and it implies that Nightblood's sheathe is aluminum as well, which implies that it is generally just resistant to all forms of Investiture.

Ralkalest, the unforgable metal, is also aluminum, and if Nightblood sheath makes any sense whatsoever in the Cosmere, it's aluminum as well. 1

Yeah, but there's a footnote to that WoB (Word of Brandon) where Brandon has been going back and forth over whether or not Shardblades would cut aluminum. https://wob.coppermind.net/events/115-general-twitter-2017/#e1442 (Also, piece of advice, try not to double post in the future, just go back and edit your first post)
InfernalCrackLED Posted November 30, 2017 Author Posted November 30, 2017 Ah okay. I haven't been on an actual forum in like 10 years, forgot about rules like that. I could see the case for either argument for Shardblades cutting aluminum. On one end, it resists Investiture, on the other end, it isn't "alive" so it should theoretically cut like stone does.

Eh, I think that it's a matter of the aluminum blocking the investiture, so there's no magical cut. Aluminum isn't a remarkably string metal though, and it's still being struck with a unbreakable blade with mass, and momentum. Even if it can't be "cut," it would still cut. "alive" doesn't really have much to do with it. For instance. https://wob.coppermind.net/events/100/#e3670 Quote Yata Could a filled (fully feruchemical charge) metalmind block a Shardblade (or at least, resist a bit)? Brandon Sanderson Yes, it could. Excellent question. Edited November 30, 2017 by Ookla, the Incalculable
