The Invested Beard
This is more of a silly thought exercise to see if anyone can come up with some ideas how it would be possible. Here it is: Roshar has a giant gemheart instead of a core. Ready, set...DEBATE!
KidWayne he/him
Perhaps the "sleeping" sibling spren is contained inside and that is why he/she/it is said to be sleeping.

There may actually be something to this: Quote Firefight Atlanta signing (Jan. 24, 2015)#12 Share ccstat Are gems in those mined or exclusively from gemhearts? Brandon Sanderson Some are mined. Mining is not easy on Roshar. Sources: ccstat's report - 17th Shard Seeing as there are indeed mine-able gems, it seems plausible that the planet itself has a giant Gemheart. Noblehunter
Could Urithiru have been made uninhabitable due to an earthquake severing it's connection to the core gemheart and that's why so little works?
insert_anagram_here
Yeah, I've gone on my own tangent above, I'll just make another theory post.

I doubt it for two seperate reasons: 1. Roshar has no plate tectonics. 2. Brandon has already done something similar in Elantris.
Noblehunter
1. No plate tectonics? That's weird. It seems like the sort of thing that would have significant implications. Quick, someone cast "Summon Geologist" 2. I see that as an argument for it. He's introduced the concept of geography affecting magical constructs. That means the idea is available to create a different problem.
