As I was looking through WoK I found a wild card the Ishikk interlude -- a totally unfamiliar face that's not associated with any Herald. It's some smiley guy who looks like he's wearing a mask and a tri-cornered hat. And he keeps on appearing throughout the headings. I honestly don't know what to do about that. @Sami thinks that it is Hoid, and I agree. I'll post the list when I finish typing it out.

Sami she/her Posted September 13, 2017 Posted September 13, 2017 (edited) I'm pretty sure the masked guy is in all the chapters where Hoid is. I'll have to check again, tho Edited September 13, 2017 by Sami
Toaster Retribution he/him Posted September 13, 2017 Posted September 13, 2017 I'm pretty sure that it is a general assumption that the Joker is Hoids symbol. Him being the eventual zero is a good guess. Great job guys!
Tesh Any pronouns Posted September 13, 2017 Posted September 13, 2017 I'd also like to make a list of all the death rattles. I don't really know why, but it would be interesting. 1

Tesh Any pronouns Posted September 13, 2017 Posted September 13, 2017 @Toaster Retribution At least it's shorter than WoR! And there's about ten less chapters.

King Cole he/him Posted September 13, 2017 Posted September 13, 2017 (edited) It wasn't easy doing WoR, especially since I broke my wrist. I also restarted at chapter 19 because that was the first instance of double heralds and I had to check to see if I missed any of those. Edit: Are you gonna have access to a computer anytime soon @Tesh, I wanna see the WoK chapters Edited September 13, 2017 by King Cole
Borio Singaldi he/him Posted September 13, 2017 Author Posted September 13, 2017 Okay, here's what I have of the first three parts of WoK and the interludes up to part four. I numbered it with Jezrien as 1, Nale as 2, and up to Taln as 9 and Ishar as 0. The "Hoid" appearances have been labeled as a question mark, since I'm already using Ishar for 0: 112244339955990055224411??88661?3118134994771444248?403127919415775522 When I do parts four and five, I'll add those on.
King Cole he/him Posted September 13, 2017 Posted September 13, 2017 Is this including the chapters that have two heralds?
King Cole he/him Posted September 13, 2017 Posted September 13, 2017 Tonight, I'm gonna do WoK so that anyone who wants to try it can. Expect it later rather than sooner though. I will try to do it tonight

I'm not entirely sure what you mean, but I'll go with saying yes. We see four Herald faces in each chapter heading, but I'm counting them in their pairs, so it's two numbers per chapter.

First Chapter is all Jezrien, and he has 11. So I would say that it appears that he is doing it correctly. I will say that the combined chapters aren't neat pairs, per se. Epilogue of Book 2 is a pair of Battars and a pair of Hoids, but they are split with one of each on each side of the chapter number. No idea if that would be significant or not, but it's worth noting how they are arranged for those.

King Cole he/him Posted September 13, 2017 Posted September 13, 2017 Also, I don't have it as Hoid, but rather unknown unless we have confirmation its Hoid

Tesh Any pronouns Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 I hand wrote it, so I'm typing it all down on a doc, so one I'm done, I'll copy and paste it. I'm also making some other lists.
Seloun Posted September 14, 2017 Posted September 14, 2017 The last chapter of WoR ('The Four') has four heralds.

You're right, it does! ERROR. CANNOT COMPUTE. CANNOT COMPUTE. And I thought the "Hoid" faces stumped me. I'm starting to think this might be a lost cause and that I should apologize for wasting all of y'all's time. We'll see.
Harakeke Posted September 15, 2017 Posted September 15, 2017 I've always suspected the portraits indicate which Heraldic Attributes (e.g. Jezrien = Protecting/Leading) feature prominently in the chapter.per Peter Ahlstrom: Quote The correspondence can be from any column on the essences table in the Ars Arcanum, or a few columns that are not on the publicly revealed table. --- They are not actually portraits of those characters. But there's not a row for the Masked Man.
