Kaladin- Dylan O'brien/Liam Hemsworth/Diego Luna

Szeth- Dane DeHaan

Stormfather- James Earl Jones as stated above, but I think you never attempt to show the face as wide as the skies. Any attempt will look SOOO CHEESEY. I've tried picturing it and it just doesn't work. Voice only.

Nale- Idris Elba. You guys naled it.

Taln- The Rock (not a joke. Hate all you want)

Sigz- Djimon Hounsou

Amaram-  Adrian Pasdar/George Clooney

Adolin- Ryan Gosling (luckily he looks younger than he is)

Dalinar- Hugh Jackman/Mark Ruffalo (but his voice would ruin it)

Shallan- Emma Stone

Navani- Stockard Channing

Lift- zendaya

Jasnah- Zoe Saldana

Rock- Chris Pratt

Wyndle voice- Burn Gorman

Renarin- Rami Malek

Sadeas- Kevin McNally/Bradley Whitford

Teft- Russell Crowe

Wit- Cillian Murphy/ Paul Bettany

This is actually a pretty interesting choice.

For Stormfather, I will present what might be a very contorversial choice. There is nothing wrong with James Earl Jones, but I doubt we want Stormfather to sound like Darth Vader. Instead, I propose Chris Hemsworth. Yup, Chris Hemsworth, Guy has a voice like thunder. I think he'd do wonderfully.

I like this idea. He could actually pull off Kaladin quite well i think.

I love your choices for these characters! Dane DeHaan's acting in Chronicle makes me think he'd be great as Szeth. For Shallan, I might consider Jane Levy as well. For Kaladin,  young-ish Keanu Reeves is basically my headcanon for him. But seeing as I don't currently own a time machine, Ezra Miller or Luke Pasqualino could work I think. I think Liam Hemsworth could work for Adolin. Oh, and young Tobey Maguire as Renarin (definitely need that time machine!).

To be honest, I almost certainly won't be watching the SA movies, because never have I ever found a book-to-screen adaptation to be better than the source material. Plus it messes with the way I imagined things from the book, pretty much irrevocably. I do think an anime would have had the best chance of depicting things as closely to the books as possible, it's a shame that's been ruled out.

Seriously, Ryan Gosling is 36 years old: he is more than 10 years too old for Adolin and while he may look younger (being close to his age, I would no, he doesn't, it is just people within their mid-thirties do not actually look old, for the most part) he doesn't look nearly young enough to be a young man within his early twenties. I know I am annoying with this, but we have to think long term: it will take years to finish the five movies for the first arc. The actors will age. If we choose actors who are already too old for the roles on the pretense "make-up" can make them appear "younger", then they will eventually look way too old. Do we want a 45 years actor playing Adolin within movie #5 when the character is meant to be about 25 years old? No, we don't. It wouldn't work. That's why we need younger actors, say early twenties, for real who are going to age with the roles. Even with an actor in his late twenties, you end up dealing with implausible father/son pairings and an actor who outages his role too quickly.

Also, no way Ryan Gosling passes the the young son of Hugh Jackman. I have nothing about the actor, but it just doesn't work. Hugh works, I love Hugh but he is 48 years old. Adolin/Renarin will need to be much younger to be plausible.

Honestly, I really, really do not understand the desire to have mid-thirties actors playing Adolin. In every casting I have seen, every single actors suggested for Adolin has been way too old for the role. I know Hollywood always does it, but no it hardly ever works, especially with male actors.

May I refer you to Orlando Bloom's Legolas in The Hobbit BoFA?

Kidding! Totally kidding. Please don't explain why that's a bad idea. I just wasn't taking this whole casting thing very seriously. I promise I have no intention of submitting my casting ideas to any studio. You are, of course, right about getting the age right IRL.

Legolas is not within his early twenties: he is 500 years old ;) I know the casting is not serious, I'm just a tad overly-sensitive on the age issue: this is something I have been ranting on for years now.

I wanted to look at the other choices, but I ran out of time. Later. I can however say Emma Stone is too old for Shallan too ;)

What we can do though, is cast actors/actresses but by imagining they are the right age: say this actor/actress circa 2000. It is much easier because actors for the younger roles are likely to go to unknown personas anyway because of their age.

I like these. Not sure about Kevin McNally being Sadeas, since I mainly know him as Gibbs, who isn't exactly a similar character. Who knows though, he might make a good villain. Either way, I'd be fine with seeing him play a role in SA.

I'm not sure, but they could work. Opinion's via anyone else?

I'll second a few earlier posts.

Courtesy of Toaster Retribution:

  • Rysn - Rosabell Laurenti-Sellers
  • Eshonai - Gwendoline Christie
  • Lopen - Michael Peña

Courtesy of Worldhopper:

  • Nohadon - Liam Neeson

Couple Suggestions of my own:

Adolin - yea, this'll take a while.

Lift - Bella Ramsey (I like her portrayal of Lyanna Mormont in GoT, and she's definitely young enough to fit as older Lift in the back 5)
^- Can't speak for Jace21's suggestion of Dafne Keen as I haven't seen Logan yet.
^--- For both, we'll have to wait and see how their acting improves as they age.

I still like the idea of David Tennant as Hoid. He just has this energy to his performance, and he's pulled off a pretty good air of mischief before. I think he could pull off the emotion and intensity of Wit's "with tears in my eyes, but I'd do it" speech to Dalinar, which is almost necessary for the seal of approval.

And now, the all-important question of who shall play Taravangian?

Storms no. Samuel L Jackson only ever plays one role: that of Samuel L Jackson.

What about Gary Oldman? Or Ken Watanabe?

I just thought of a some improvements on my earlier suggestions:

Navani- Gina Torres

Sadeas- David Costabile

Has someone recently been watching Suits?

But I could probably get behind those actually. Not 100% sold on David Costabile as Sadeas but it could work.

I was joking lol.

Tom Hanks might be good. Might.

Storms having Harrison Ford would be fun for tarangavian. Or mark hamill. Someone sufficiently old and a bit creepy

Mark Hamill would be PERFECT for Taravangian. He's got that bored-murderer look in his eyes but he could also come across as a bumbling philanthropist when convenient.

As long as you give him billowing robes and a staff to look official lol

@maxal Didn't some other casting thread have Lucas Till as Adolin, whoch I seem to recall that you found at least plausible.

Also, some other choices:

-Shallan - Sophie Turner

-Lin Davar - Brendan Gleeson

-Helaran Davar - Domnhall Gleeson :-)

-Amaram - Byung-hun Lee

And I still think Tom Hiddleston is the best Hoid.

YESS! When I saw this thread, the first thing that came to mind was Luke Pasqualino. He's actually the person I casted for Kaladin in my mind, when I was reading the books

Kaladin is just out of his teens and he is a very tall fellow.

So you need a freakishly tall kid to play Kaladin. Some of the names mentioned are ridiculously short and nearing 40's.

Actors being suggested are always nearing their 40's... It has been my one point of annoyance with most casting: 35 years old actors aren't young enough to play 20 years old role no matter how "young" others think they look. Trust me, they do not look like they are 20 years old. It may be when you are younger, you have trouble seeing the difference, but being within my mid-thirties, really I can say none of us look that young. Maybe with photoshop and the proper lighting, but facial expressions will betray you. Age always shows.

As for height, I think the importance is for all characters relative height to be consistent. Kaladin is very tall, Dalinar is nearly as tall (or could be taller is really isn't a big plot point) but he looks like a mountain of muscles, Adolin is a bit shorter, but again not so important. What matters is to have Dalinar be physically very imposing, to have Kaladin be able to command respect despite his young age (so he can't look like a beardless teenager, but not an old man either) and to give Adolin a decent plausible built, but not one which is imposing or eye fetching. Adolin looks like a spoiled frat kid who isn't up to much without his armor.

So as long as the casting gets that, then the precise height does not matter.
