Con578
This post is about the possible potentials for characters ( I.e. Someone being a radiant, for example gaz)or someone who has world hopped into another story, and it isn't blatantly stated in their name, but by the way they look and hints they drop, their profession so forth. I am going to add a few people to start this, 2 of which I have talked in one of my other posts but they weren't really the main point of the post and I'd like them to have their own post. Reply to this post with other people like this with enough proof and I'll add it onto the main post. I am starting with vasher, who I am theorizing worldhopped over to roshar. Now if you read to the end of words of radiance and read warbreaker, you'll see that night blood had a quick trip over to roshar near the end of the book. I just want to confirm it was nightblood by saying that, when the fisherman picks up nightblood out of the sea, he communes to the man with this question; Hello, would you like to destroy some evil today? Destroy evil is his base command and why he was given sentience. He then asks this same question to szeth. So when we see that question, we know it's nightblood and not some other sentient sword. Now back to vasher. I think he is Zahel, the shardbearer trainer for renarin, and eventually Kaladin. The his description can be found on page 466 (I am reading from iBooks so there might be a bit of page variation from that and the actual book) of words of radiance, and is quite similar to what warbreaker describes him as. Quote: The light clothing, tied with ropes, was very similar to what some of the ardents were wearing." “I’m not going to hurt your Damnation prince.” He had a low, grinding voice. Scratchy. Strange accent too." “Kaladin would have expected them to require the man to at least shave his head.” now light clothing ( grey). Same color vasher wears. He then has ropes holding up his clothing( the rope he had in warbreaker.) a grinding voice, again like vasher. Then we have the strange accent, distinguishing him from most rosharians( I'd also like to point out that most accent descriptions in the books give a possibility from as to where the voice's bearer comes from). The third and first paragraphs dismiss him from being an ardent. “He’s probably close to your own age, and is the son of the most powerful human on this—” Next, what word could Zahel have put after this, he could have said continent, but highstorms stop rosharians from crossing seas, and thusly they wouldn't have the word. He can't really use country, So I think he would've said planet. Character one analysis: complete. Now I want to theorize about gaz, who I mentioned before. I would like to say before I get started I don't have much ground for this theory but in my other post no one found anything that actually disproves it. I also don't have the direct quotes, which kind of sucks but oh well. He sees something in the "darkness" (where he can't see due to the unfortunate lack of an eye) and this is mentioned a few times late after kaladin's arrival at the war-camps. In my other post I theorized it the thing in the darkness could be a cryptic, now I realize it could be any Spren. Now I want to add elhokar to the mix, and I am happy to say I have a bit more info on him. quote, page 1902, IBooks. “Yes,” Elhokar replied. “And yet they are savages, and easily manipulated. It would be a perfect distraction, pinning the blame on a group of parshmen. We go to war for years and years, never noticing the real villains, working quietly in my own camp. They watch me. Always. Waiting. I see their faces in mirrors. Symbols, twisted, inhuman …” this is elhokar talking about his fear of assassins to Dalinar and Sadeas. Shallan also only saw glimpses of the pattern, in his shadesmar form from her peripherals and in her drawings. Adolin was put on this list by calderis. Reasoning: He fits the oaths spoken by by lift, putting him in the edgedancer category. He will become a radiant by awakening his shardbalde. Taravanigan was put on this list by caldaris. Reasoning: It's really just a great Thought to have him not completely helpless against someone like kaladin hunting the guy down later in the book. Along with the idea, placed in by caldaris, because people are so hung up on the idea that "honor" = "good" that it's fun throwing it out there and watching people go "but... But... Villain! Tensoon/Melaan(deceased) Placed on the list by toaster retribution. Reasoning:Brandon has said in an interview that kandra have worldhopped. Tensoon is the only living Kandra who is also a prominent character. Other possibilities include: Haddek, KanPaar, Oreseur(deceased), HanFoor, Varsell. I personally think it is Tenssoon's love interest in mistborn E1, as she hasn't had much "screen time" or purpose in the books. This far. Felt placed on the theory by toaster retribution. reasoning. He uses the same name on roshar as he does on Sel. Additionally in oathbringer we get this exchange between him and dalinar: “Any idea why she didn’t visit you?” “Well, best I could figure, she doesn’t like foreigners.” “I might have trouble too.” “You’re a little less foreign, sir.” Characters noted: vasher elhokar gaz adolin Taravanigan Kandra, assumably Tensoon. felt Vivenna, using the name Azure. So, Vasher is on roshar and gaz and elhokar are Proto-radiants. Please add on anything else you have on characters like this, and pick apart mine with a free will. I have no idea what to do with this info but it looks useful: Above the final void I hang, friends behind, friends before. The feast I must drink clings to their faces, and the words I must speak spark in my mind. The old oaths will be spoken anew.” I just thought it was an odd ritual to become a radiant using the old magic. while re-reading the storm light books, look for mention of a place called Rira. It's where dalinar's wife is from. Golden hair is a commodity there. Edited November 26, 2017 by Con578
Brightlord M. Alhstrom
@Con578 Nice Job! First off, Vasher is Zahel. Can't remember if we have a WoB supporting it, but the theories surrounding that are strong enough that it's taken as a fact on this Forum. As for Elhokar and Gaz, they have been mentioned as possible future Radiants quite often as well. I don't have links right now, but @The One Who Connects, @Calderis and @Extesian should be able to reference almost anything on that. Also, You may want to learn how to use the quote function in your posts. It makes it a lot easier to tell the difference between a passage or a WoB, and your comments. For example: Quote “Yes,” Elhokar replied. “And yet they are savages, and easily manipulated. It would be a perfect distraction, pinning the blame on a group of parshmen. We go to war for years and years, never noticing the real villains, working quietly in my own camp. They watch me. Always. Waiting. I see their faces in mirrors. Symbols, twisted, inhuman …”
Con578
Thank you, my first post was botched as I had not re read the words of radiance in a while and it was torn to pieces in that book.I'll look into the quote function as well. I Haven't dug too deep into the site yet, I'll be sure to check more thoroughly when posting things like this as to avoid, essentially copying another theory, though unintentionally. Thanks. Calderis
35 minutes ago, Con578 said: Above the final void I hang, friends behind, friends before. The feast I must drink clings to their faces, and the words I must speak spark in my mind. The old oaths will be spoken anew.” This death rattle refers to Kaladin speaking the second Oath as he leaped the Chasm and took in Stormlight from the Parshendi beard gems. On your other post I went into how I don't think Gaz is a lightweaver so I won't repeat my reasoning, but I will say that as a potential squire for Shallan, I won't totally discount your theory... I just really don't see him as a lightweaver maybe something else. As far as characters are concerned... My two would be Adolin as an Edgedancer (by reawakening his Blade) because he already fits both oaths Lift has spoken, and Taravangian as a Bondsmith because I really do believe it, and because people are so hung up on the idea that "honor" = "good" that it's fun throwing it out there and watching people go "but... But... Villain!" Edited August 6, 2017 by Calderis
Toaster Retribution
I brought up my new pet theory of Amaram as a Dustbringer on another thread. It doesn't have much evidence, and it is disputed wether or not Amaram would manage to attract any spren at all, but I'll throw it out there (it is in this thread): As for worldhoppers (Mistborn spoilers): Spoiler I wouldn't be surprised to see Kelsier, Marsh or Spook travelling around the Cosmere. We also have several Kandra, like TenSoon and MeLaan, who are potential worldhoppers. If Wayne survives Lost Metal, I wouldn't be surprised to find him worldhopping either. Con578
Thanks. I forgot to really discount gaz as A light weaver, and I agree with you there. I already see him as something else, but I don't really know what. As for Adolin and taravanigan, I like the idea of taravanigan being a potential radiant, and his actions are purely honourable, but I think he is something else. I mean due to his intelligence fluctuations. But he is an interesting character. It is still possible for him to be a radiant as well, pointed out by hoid and his access to light weaving, but he seems like to much of an interesting character already, and making him a radiant would almost make him mundane. I am in no position to refuse to refuse putting him up, and I like the idea of him being a minor radiant. I don't think he'll be a bondsmith though. Probably something with the same passive feeling but a new type of radiant, as Brandon would probably want to start pumping out a character in the story for each order. adolin on the other hand, seems pretty perfect to be one. Con578
@Toaster Retribution I can't really add anagram on as there isn't much supporting it at all, and it's already based off the theory it's perspective that makes your actions honourable. I haven't queued in on the hole Melaan and Tensoon worldhopping theories yet, do you have a link I could go over to? I dont know if there is a dedicated theory about MeLaan and TenSoon worldhopping, but we know that other kandra has done so. Brandon was asked once, and refused to say wether or not TenSoon has worldhopped. Edited August 6, 2017 by Toaster Retribution
Weltall
@Con578 Well spotted on Vasher. If you're looking for potential worldhoppers from other stories in Stormlight Archive, I'd also suggest you keep an eye out for anyone who shows an interest in Hoid and look for margin comments in the illustrations. There's a few confirmed worldhoppers who aren't going around advertising themselves by name. And then there's Felt who actually is using the same name but he's very easy to overlook, And we know at least one Ghostblood was born offworld, though they aren't a returning character from another setting like Zahel is. 8 hours ago, Lord Maelstrom said: Vasher is Zahel. Can't remember if we have a WoB supporting it, but the theories surrounding that are strong enough that it's taken as a fact on this Forum. We have quite a few of them. Here's a small sampling. Quote Question When you were planning Zahel being Vasher, how long did you do that? Brandon Sanderson Vasher was in the 2002 version of The Way of Kings by name. I only changed him to the new name after I finished this entire draft. Because I was like, oh he'd probably go under a pseudonym. So he's been in Roshar 12 years our time. Quote Question My brother and I disagreed, at the very end of Words of Radiance, the sword that-- Is it the same as in Warbreaker? Brandon Sanderson Yes it is, in fact Vasher is in the book. Question Is that Vasher?!? [Presumably referring to Nale] Brandon Sanderson No, look for somebody making color metaphors and when they are waking up they feel like they can sense other people's presence and things like that. There is one character who is Vasher. He doesn't go by that name anymore. Quote Question Vasher/Zahel is a Returned, which means he needs Breath to live. But Breath doesn’t exist-- Brandon Sanderson Right. Question --on Roshar. Does he use St-- Brandon Sanderson He uses Stormlight. One of the reasons-- In fact one of the primary reasons he’s on Roshar is because Stormlight is so much easier to come by than Breath. And in fact researching about things like this is one of the reasons he discovered Roshar in the first place.
