Favourite Cliche

When a character does something they promised they'd do, no matter how ridiculous the thing, and they play it completely straight. As in Gravity Falls….

DIPPER: Pacifica is the worst! And if I ever see her again, I'll tell her that to her face!
There is a knock at the door. DIPPER answers, and PACIFICA is standing there.
PACIFICA: I need your help.
DIPPER: You're the worst. He slams the door in her face.

I'm also fond of the one where the dog survives, no matter how little sense that makes. Stories where dogs die….aren't my favorite.

Man, that was a good show. This may be off topic, but Kristen Schaal, the actress who voices Mabel, was in another show, The Last Man on Earth, where her character and her husband were trying to resuscitate a fish, and they did the exact same thing they did with Mermando.

When someone considered weak or cowardly turns out to be the biggest badchull of the story.

Also when figures known to have supreme power or skill enter the battle. Like Dumbledore at the end of Order of Phoenix or Yoda in RotS. I just love those scenes, no matter how cheesy or cliche they are :)

Last Man on Earth! Yay!!!

My fave cliche is the perfectly timed kiss interruptions (which is only a kids movie cliche mostly, but still).

Weird, I just got asked this same question on Facebook earlier today.

One of my favorites is the "impossible number of concealed weapons," a la that guy in the animated movie Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas.

Also a big fan of the Wilhelm Scream.

My favorite cliche which is not a cliche because it does not happen nearly often enough is when the villain gets redeemed in the end. I.E. Redemption stories, especially if the one being redeemed is the villain

Ditto to all of this.

Does it have to be the main villain of the story, or can it be a minor villain? Just curious...
