+Extesian
Sanderson is my favorite author due to his publication rate and intertwined stories, but I look forward to nothing more than the last Kingkiller book. They are the most hauntingly beautiful books I've ever read, with one of the most incredible magic systems, the most remarkably mighty but flawed character, and the most beautiful prose you'll ever read. I can't recommend them enough. As someone once said, George R R Martin makes you upset with rape, torture and death. Rothfuss makes you weep when a boy loses his shirt.

Im going to start reading it now then, for sure! Is it a good cry book? (I love good cry books)

(I love good cry books) Oh yes It's so full of soaring hopes and shattered dreams, but then written in such a beautiful way, that it will wring every emotion out of you. It's the hero telling his own story and it has the most astonishing number of magnificent quotes. The books are as long as the Stormlight ones and there are some slower sections. But I've never met a person who wasn't swept away by it. Enjoy, I wish I could read it for the first time again! Instead I'll have to settle for the fourth time
manukos
Pat Rothfuss is a kick chull writer. he has dedicated his last ten (probably more) to this trilogy to make sure that it is perfect his books though more rooted to the real word than most of Sanderson's fantasyworlds still demonstartes immence writing skill and imagination to make the world realy grounded and some characters like the chandrian, the ademreans and especialy the Cthaeh (ohhhhhhhh it is soooooo gooood and terrifying) make this one of the best fantasy series out there , especialy for a sanderfan i have an other problem i just finished listening to the first book of the wheel of time and it is certainly not bad . it didn't sweep me off my feet maybe i'll make a topic as well
soyperson
Read Name of the Wind. For your own sake. It's really good.
Ammanas
I liked it, but not as much as others seem to. I recommend experiencing the series through the audiobook. The narrator is amazing and helped me get through the slower parts.
Spoolofwhool
It's a good book. The only problem is as people have said, the third book has been taking forever because Rothfuss wrote himself into a hole, so after Name of the Wind you'll probably read and finish Wise Man's Fear then get really disappointed.
Briar King
It is a GREAT bk. Wonderful story telling/atmosphere. The 2nd bk is also great. I've not read the novella yet. You just gotta ask yourself if you really want to read an amazing 2 bks now or wait and wait and wait some more for the last bk to get here till starting. It's worth it but after you ll be in the cranky club wondering what's taking so long. Either way your making the right choice for you.
Who Sharded?
I think it kind of sucks, but a lot of people think it's the best thing ever for some reason. So give it a go.
Ammanas
@Who Sharded? Did you make it to the university section in book one? I was unimpressed until he got there, but upon arrival it really picked up for me and I started to enjoy it (except for the draccus scene towards the end).
Exalted
I just finished it this morning, and it was awesome. I'm now anxiously awaiting my hold on The Wise Man's Fear...

I still find Rothfuss more poetically and emotionally beautiful but Wolfe has some extraordinary quotes and his ability to write layered writing, where you don't see the full story unless you read very closely, is unrivaled!
PallonianFire
I guess I can understand that. But yeah, Wolfe is unrivaled. One of those who absolutely demands re-reading. Another that is on the level with Rothfuss is Kai Ashante Wilson. I read "Sorcerer of the Wildeeps" not long ago and it was startlingly well written.

For sure, Wolfe taught me to read in a different way, he's a master! My heart goes to Rothfuss but my mind goes to Wolfe. And thanks I'll definitely try Wilson!!

I actually gave book 1 4 stars after I finished it, but after a couple of months my feelings of the book soured and I dropped it down to 3. The only thing I could praise about the books is the prose. I don't like Kvothe's faux humility, and I don't think all of these details about his life are interesting. I'm an accountant, and I still got bored by Kvothe's money management and his awful decisions. And there's pretty much no suspense in the books. Book 2 was just bad. I thought there was one awesome potential plot development in the middle, but a lot of the book was cringe worthy.
Ammanas
@Who Sharded? Gotcha. It has its flaws for sure, but I still like it. I understand why people have problems with it though.
C. M. Hayden
It's as good as people say. Possibly the best fantasy novel this side of 2000. But, it's also true that the third book in the Kingkiller series may take another ten years. Reader beware.

You should try more Wolfe! Check out his Latro bks they are amazing! His Wizard Knight bks are extremely good to but not as epic as those 2 series
Anonymous2000
I loved the Name of the Wind, but waiting to read book #2 until we have a concrete idea on when #3 will be released. Any updates on the final edition?

From a Q and A: How does he feel the writing is going on book 3 today (as opposed to two years ago, when he jokingly rated it 3.5 stars out of 5 on Goodreads)? It’s at best a star and a half because I dismantled a big piece of it and haven’t quite put it back together. http://www.tor.com/2017/02/03/patrick-rothfuss-kingkiller-chronicle-book-3-update/

I am a recovering WOT fan and that series dragged on and on and on and on and on and on and on. I'm afraid to pick up any incomplete series without knowing publication details.
A Budgie
I think The name of the Wind is worth it if you have the free time to really read it, and read it in a few days/weeks. I think that if you don't have too much time, and you read it over a few months or so, I think it might not be not as good.

Its your money so you can do as you wish, but I personally feel its important to support a great author. There are lots of fantastic series out there that release a book ever year or two and the authors seem to care about their fans. If a publisher does not see great sales they will drop a series. I've been reading The Expanse series written under the name James SA Corey. These books are amazing and are all between 500-600 pgs and have been released every year (currently 6 books out of 9 are out)
