I wrote an epic named Chess once. Dr. Funtimes drowned him in tar.

Naturewiill
Primary Power: An Epic with immense control over plants and animals. She once lived in Babilar, but found it too crowded for her tastes. She found her way to a small town with an extensive zoo, and hasn't left there since. Very few people go near her, as she has incredible distaste for the human race. A few minor epics have attempted to join her as a gang of some sorts. Only a few escaped before she fed them to her pet tiger.
Secondary Power: Minor animal control. She can't force them to do anything they wouldn't already be inclined to. She can make them like and dislike people. She doesn't have any sort of healing or protection, but she is pretty powerful. As of WHIO, she's still alive, but a fire epic who failed to convince Naturewill to join her empire fought her sometime after the events of Oregon before Steelheart. She was killed in the fight, and the fire epic got assassinated by the Reckoners a few weeks after she took over.
Weakness: Public speaking, hence why she refused any sort of rule.
She doesn't tend to hurt any vanillas except when they intrude on her territory. The people in the town where she'd taken over their zoo offer her offerings in order to keep her from attacking them. In exchange, she'd give them fruits. The fire epic who killed Naturewill slaughtered the entire town, except for a few runaways who saw her weakness get triggered in the fight with Naturewill.

Ok, I have one for the Fire Epic:

Epic Name: Blaze

Real Name: Jenny Thompson

Primary Power: Can ignite anything inflammable enough, causing it to erupt into flame.

Secondary Power: She has the ability to project a weird gas she's dubbed 'Blaze Fuel'. A single spark can cause a chain reaction inside the gas that creates a powerful heat wave. Only she can ignite it, however.

Passive Power: Grows a protective shield/layer over her body when near fire, or when there is about to be fire (cognitive-ish)

Weakness: Canals, apparently. The Reckoners killed her by leading her to a canal. If Blaze is close enough to a canal, her powers dim. If the protective shield does not form, she will ultimately kill herself if she uses her powers.

Background:

Before Calamity, she was seen as somewhat sociopathic. She once attempted to burn down a school, but was caught and sent to a mental help facility. Her Rending was.... less than pleasant.

hehe. I'll write back again after I work on my doc, organizing it a bit better.

I'm going to have to leave this fountain of goodness until tomorrow, unfortunately. But not before one last one:

The One:

Primary: Makes people think he is the most important person in the world, and so flock to him.

Secondary: Once people see him in a good enough light, he can control them.

Passive: Aura of Amazingness.

There's been some mentions of an Upgraded Soulcaster, but, to be honest, I think Salem is probably gonna have to be on the later end of the destruction because it's a pretty solid structure and there a lot of Epics invested in keeping it together. No pun intended. The news of other cities being destroyed, along with refugees from the wreckage, could torpedo the psychological health of the city. The refugees, both Epic and human, could damage the economy as well. This could be a city where Obliteration deals a massive blow because of mass confusion and anarchy.

dang it's  so much easier to destroy a city than to build one

I like the idea of Obliteration in Salem. Perhaps he comes to put a stop to the worship and glorification of false gods that Salem is basically promoting, and begins assassinating leading Salem Epics until they are all at each other's throats in fear and paranoia.

@Voidus thoughts?

Too true...

I mean, I have an idea for a new Epic that is basically similar to Upgrade, but instead of improving Epic powers, it just takes down barriers. For example:

My Epic, Element. If he were to be Upgraded then his Elementals would be a whole lot stronger. If the barriers were taken down however, the Elementals wouldn't change, but the number that could be summoned at any given time would increase. Something like that, I suppose.

Then there's that whole scene I have planned where the Omegas attack a bank, accidentally kill Element's grandmother, he uses the barrier Epic and wreaks havoc, killing the whole freedom team. Then he starts a horrible disease that infects plenty of Vanillas, yadda yadda, so on and so forth.

I'm rambling again :o

I don't like him, to be honest. A bit too powerful, gamebreaking in the right circumstances, and his power is fairly ill-defined, because not all Epics have real easy barriers on thir powers.

I dunno if Obliteration would exactly assassinate people... flat out exploding them seems a bit more likely with his style. But speaking of assassinaion, a reckoners hit on a not too major but still powerful epic could stiir up trouble

Well we don't know too much about his modus operandi after he blows up Houston and those other two cities. We know he didn't outright explode any other cities, and his teleportation still had that cooldown, making him weaker. David mentioned him sometimes taking in a lot of heat and then teleporting close to people to kill them with the amboent heat, so he was obviously moving around, killing people and Epics for his own reasons.

When I say "assassinate" I mean, "teleport into an Epic's house, and then fry them a second after he delivers a bible quote at them". Then teleport out- other Epics are none the wiser that HE was the one responsible.

It'd be one of the most dangerous cities to be in for him when he still had a cooldown on his teleporting but he could definitely do some serious damage if he wanted. Given that a large number of Epics and Vanillas all pack into a single small space on a daily basis, while unconscious, it'd be a pretty prime target.

Another idea for Oregons destruction, the arrival of one of the many Epics in my backlog, Red (Who now regrets his name once he learns of the Red who resides in Portland) and his many followers.

151 followers to be exact. (Well actually 153 since I count togepi and Ho-oh as well)

And no I'm not just suggesting this because I went to the effort (read: Had tremendous fun) of creating an Epic profile for every Gen 1 pokemon.

I approve of this plan. I also approve of Red regretting his life choices upon meeting Red, the... uh... character I sometimes write.

edit: omg I'm almost caught up from my reread

AND SHINY AND FUNTIMES MET

OMG

I LOVE IT SO MUCH ITS SO HILLARIOUS I AM LITERALLY LAUGHING AND GIGGLING AT HOW RIDICULOUS IT IS

Giggles:

Primary Power: Makes people have an irresistible urge to laugh, potentially rendering them useless. Giggles can mentally choose how much they laugh.

No no no I really shouldn't.

Yes

Yes, you should.

Rendering:

Primary power: Can change any photograph into a detailed painting. Spends her time sucking up to narcissistic high Epics.

Dang it. You have me.

Narcissism:

Primary: Everyone in a 17 mile radius drops what they're doing and stares at him / looks in the general direction of him in utter awe.

Secondary: Makes pools of water reflect a beauty when he looks at them.

Yeah, he didn't last very long.

Beauty
Primary: Everyone thinks he's drop dead gorgeous and can be immediately swayed into doing whatever we want. Low power mind control.

Sway:

Primary Power: Anybody he targets will believe anything he says.

Passive: Enhanced balance.

Ok, I may have to go now. Not sure about time zones but it'd 9:30 here in England and I've got to be up in a couple of hours to go to the airport.

I hope they have Wi-Fi in Malta!

What a coincidence, we're both in the same country? The world is pretty big.

That's pretty crazy.

What country are you from?

Define from.

Where are you currently living (well before you came to England anyway)

Definition:

Primary: Can choose a random word and become the living definition of that word.

Passive: Will always win in word debates and word puzzles.

Wonk.

Random

primary: Will be able to pick a totally random number between two specificed points.

Totally:

Primary: Can create absolutely anything he wants to. Very OP.

Passive: Such a rad surfer dude (good at surfing, world class is what I'm showing here).

So I was rereading the Reckoners the other day and also Harry Potter a bit earlier and I was struck by a thought. Out of Nighthound and Voldemort, who's worse? The number of murders inspired by him goes to Voldemort, but the quality of murders has to go to Nighthound. I'd rather be locked in a room with Voldemort, but that's not saying much and honestly that's the first time in my life I've considered being locked in a room with Voldemort as a positive alternative.

Well, I haven't read Portland or HP so I can't really say :P

I've never seen "and then they died" for Voldemort, though, so that may be saying something.

Well, and then they died is an Oregon thing. Started with Nighthound, but it's grown to refer to any person who's done despicable things. For example, I was walking down the street and then Deathwish died. The entire world rejoiced, and then Nighthound died. The entire multiverse rejoiced.

It'll happen soon, I tell you.

Well, it actually might. Relatively. We need an event to trigger all the pressure that's been building up in Portland, and Nighthound's death would definitely lead to some explosive consequences. Literally speaking. C4 and Ray would have a field day, and with redconned personality, Red would too. Seriously, the consequences of his death would trigger major movements. Bloody Mary in Astoria would likely freak out, and if she made her way to Portland as a consequence... there's some speculation she might end up changing her Epic name to Night's Sorrow in response, Night fitting with Nighthound and we know night's sorrow is confirmed to be responsible for a lot of Oregon's destruction-- and I'm a nerd, aren't I?

Sounds like some good speculation. And when Brandon is involved, one can never be too nerdy :P

Posted
1 hour ago, winter devotion said:

Well I'm not speculating, it's been discussed. It's hard to speculate when I am literally involved in planning it. :P

Except for secret plans I'm in on. Well, sort of secret and sort of... to be determined. Let's just say... somethings aren't coincidences. ;) There's no such thing as an (un)happy coincidences. Buckle up, because we're in for some dark times ahead.

Pun intended. (Okay I'm being kinda over dramatic but mostly it's just because I love being involved as I am in a major plot point. Anyway, we'll see.)

It sounds fun! Looking forward to some large scale destruction in the future, haha.

Alll kidding aside, I've been thinking of trying to resurrect the wastelands. But if nobody else is interested, I might just write out the entire city's arc as a multi chapter fanfiction for my own purposes if only because I really love the characters I've created. (And birdshatter is my OTP for life. They are so cute together and I just want to write more of them.) @Voidus, you started the thread, I think. So what do you say? Attempt a necro or should I just write the rest of Darwin myself?

edit: @Cognizantastic DUDE

this is absolutely insane. People who are currently or have been in Britain within a week or so party!

I was pretty involved in the Wastelands. I guess I could help resurrect it, but i'm not sure. A lot of my passion for the characters disappeared once I wrote everything down, and the lack of an overarching goal or story meant that the worldbuilding didn't really go anywhere.

Given the limited players I'd say we'd need a few people to agree to necro it successfully for any of the cross-city stories. I'm not opposed to people carrying their own cities.

Yeah the worldbuilding was a lot of the initial draw for me, but then there was too limited opportunity for player interaction and no real overarching story so I guess it just kind of fell apart.

I feel like I'm missing something. The Wastelands is talked about a fair bit but I've never looked into it.

Does it have its own thread. Or is it just a world inside a world?

I'm useless sometimes ^_^

The Wastelands is a thread that's a bit further down than the rest because it doesn't have much activity. It's three pages long and set in Australia. Each player has a city and the goal was eventually to have it be massive politicking but ended up just fizzling out. I like how my segments turned out. :)

Ooh, ooh, can I claim a new city? It sounds awesome!
