Nanowrimo 2016? Anyone?

So i am doing Nanowrimo this year and hope to actually complete my first one. is anyone else going to participate? if so feel free to use this thread (Unless there is a better place if so let me know please) to post your goals, stats, lively discussion on all our worlds/stories.

I want to... but is unlikely to happen, thanks to my work schedule. I might make an effort to finally write some of the short one-shots that have been bouncing off my head though...

I'm going to officially enter for the first time. I did a sort of unofficial one two years ago, where I set a goal to write 50k on my WIP at the time (and I did hit that goal), but this will be the first time I sit down and start a novel from scratch for NaNo.

I'm excited for the freedom.

I would love to. I hit the 50K word goal when I tried it 3 years ago, but I definitely don't have time now. A shame though, it was pretty interesting.

I'm going to certainly try. I've been furiously worldbuilding for the last few weeks, trying to do the finishing touches now. Will try to prep a storyboard before November, too. Unfortunately this month is going to be pretty rough for me work wise, but I'm hoping I'll be able to manage, still.

I am doing it this year! I've attempted NaNo twice before and failed both times, but I basically made those ones up as I'm typing, and I'm hoping actually storyboarding and planning this time will get me through.

Maybe it will, maybe it won't. Possibly the fact that I started tinkering with ideas 2 months ago and still have less than a page of notes might be an indication that I'll just end up doing the same thing again, but... hopefully not.

I'd like to try it this year. I've never gotten it off the ground, although I did review my notes from a couple years ago and I still like my idea well enough. I recently got a new computer (Microsoft Surface), so I might try writing it through speech-to-text on my commute to and from work. That might solve the time problem - I'm always busy, but I'm spend a good chunk of my drive talking to the radio (like a crazy person), so I think I can easily convert that over to dictating passages.

Note: if there are any Pokemon fans, you can get a Pokemon word counter for your NaNo project from here. I thought it was pretty nifty, so signed in to share it. Only works for this year's NaNo, for the duration of NaNo, after which your Pokemon won't level anymore. Have fun!

I've tried the last two years, but have allowed myself to get derailed after a week or less with gaming.

 

This year I'm not going to bother with word counts, or even making one story.  going to just do a series of shorts and see what I have  at the end of the month. I really want to break my block this year.

I am doing NaNoWriMo this year, too!  For those that have had problems in the past, the #1 best way that I have found to stay motivated is through the use of write-ins.  These are magical things where people that you may or may not know gather in a neutral setting (like Starbucks, or the mall, or a bar) and spend the time focusing on writing and writing-related issues.  

One of the common aspects of write-ins is the use of something called a 'word war.'  Although you're allowed (and encouraged!) to write throughout the duration of the write-in, during a word-war everyone shuts up and concentrates on just writing, nothing but writing, as fast as they can.  These usually last 5-7 minutes.  They are fantastic ways to get words on page and ideas written down (and also some of the most epic typos ever.  I have a friend who should honestly publish a work of her typos, because it is freaking HILARIOUS.)

My user-name is kaellok on the NaNo page, feel free to add me as a writing buddy.  And if you're in the Seattle area, I know all the best write-ins with the best people.
