Yes, he was close now. He reached some marker that was only known to him and took a breath. As he let it out, he entered Shadesmar…. He had been spot on. Before him, in Shadesmar, was what was known as the SEAcropolis. It was never on any of the old maps or the new ones, but if you were in the right place (and only the right place), you could get there. It didn’t seem to matter what world you were on either. It was as if this place existed in all the worlds and none of them at the same time. It was one of the few places where he felt he could relax and just take in the sights; and what sights the SEAcropolis held…. Welcome to the SEAcropolis! For those of you who are not aware, Acropolis literally means “Upper City” in greek. The most famous one being the Acropolis in Athens during the Roman Empire. It was a cultural hub for the city that surrounded it and housed some of the most famous structures in the Roman Empire, like the Parthenon. Now, we have one too. Our Acropolis is for SE-related creations that you guys come up with. There have already been some great things created in games and Docs alike and it’s a shame that they never really get to see the light of day. So here is a place for all of those awesome creations; things like song parodies based on different games, or pieces of art inspired from the games, or short stories based on characters or events from here, or banners that you created for the games, or basically anything that is SE-related that you’ve created. Remember though, this is for SE-related work only! The forum already has a place for other artwork and stories and such. As much as I’m sure everyone would love to see everyone else’s artwork, this is for the niche stuff that is something that only those that play the games would really care about; AKA, our own cultural artifacts, if you will. There is one rule that we need to state here: You are not allowed to post anything you’ve created from an ongoing game until that game is finished. Sorry. Feel free to create as much amazingness as you want, but you’ll have to wait until the game finishes to post it. This way, nothing could accidentally give the game away or be used to confirm yourself or any of a hundred other little possibilities. Other than that, let your imaginations run wild and let’s fill our SEA with the brilliance and creativity that only comes from fending off death on a daily basis! The game started on the 14th of January, so 14 days had passed since the start of the game. There was a point at which, had we avoided Elephant being lynched, I think we'd have gotten very close to finishing the game by the end of Day 10, which was the 12th of Febrary, and 28 days after the start of the game. Alas, it took us until the end of night 12 to claim victory. It is not a ruleset, a dry summary of what is - if you’re looking for those, look elsewhere, for I am not a lawmaker. I am a writer, a singer, a weaver of words, and of SE, this I sing: SE is a pocket of peace amidst the world’s turbulent chaos, laughter and blood mixing without sorrow for death. Divinity and depravity exist here in harmony, interlocking to form a story of contrasts. There is deceit, danger, and betrayal, yet there is trust too, and safety, and beauty. It is chaos, shadows, light, death; fear, anger, wonder, love, friendship. But, let us begin with beginnings. It begins with a man whose smile is death. It begins with the death of a doctor in the night, and a woman running messages, and a village thrice doomed to die. And it begins with a story. The story is one of murder, and distrust, and betrayal, and it doesn’t always have a happy ending. Yet despite that… it’s beautiful anyway. And that is SE: a cycle of game after game, story after story, all weaving together in one great narrative tapestry of revenge and love and loss and ever-present death. So the story continues to weave and be woven. Frozen instants fill the tapestry before me, seemingly unordered in time or space, myriad memories flowing into each other without break or end: A glint in a woman’s eye that might be a tear; scrawled writing in blood; a silhouette standing on a rooftop, unaware that he has already been betrayed. Snow covers the tapestry for a moment, then clears to reveal a young man arguing with a horse, a cellar, three paranoid people talking late into the night. A kandra sings a song of shadows, five sets of eyes turn black, and two daring grins hang over a jacket that’s not quite real. A year’s length of memory passes by in an instant, ending in blood and betrayal and death and the birth of a sunset. On a solitary mountaintop, Shards swear to Odium. A suspicious lawman’s badge glints in the sunlight. A hand reaches from the grave to grasp a stuffed panda, while above it a woman drowns in blood. Love comes with the dawn, until fire takes all. An artist kills an emperor, guilty innocents die, a hand is stolen. Aon Ati glimmers in spilled ale. An inquisitor casually licks a drop of blood off of a spike, a heart is ripped out of its chest, and a cook slices tubers, smiling. Thus the second year ends. The third year blooms in a wild spiral of color and activity and a tableau that is nearly whole but in truth many pieces flowing into each other. A forge explodes in fiery beauty, while a tiny blue bird flits over it uncaringly. Then, a storm of bone rips a young girl to shreds, which becomes a storm of metal from which ascends Preservation, whose power forms the Well. That well’s power trails into a woman, who meets a man in a darkened tent on Roshar, and the fire that once separated them at last brings forth new life in that darkness. The darkness becomes deeper, now. There are nightmares and dreamwalkers and shades, paranoia festering until reason returns in sharp betrayal. A brief burst of storm covers the tapestry for an instant, then dies away to reveal a pair of rabbits hopping innocently towards a huggable sword. That sword stands hilt-to-hilt with another, much darker sword, whose tendrils extend outward to a man with hateful eyes, and then… well. The tapestry continues on, farther than the eye can see, images building and twisting and turning in unspeakable beauty. That is our story, we of Sanderson Elimination. Our history, our lives, our pasts. Each image and instant is a memory, a story, a lesson. And how well we have learned! We are not bumbling children, stumbling about, trying to find our way. Not anymore. We are death, all of us. There is a danger in our words now, quiet watchfulness lying below the surface, waiting to strike. You do not toy with someone who can kill you, not unless you are even more dangerous than they. Few are: and we name them divine. So, then. What is SE? Yes, SE is darkness and danger and death. Yes, there is anger, there is fear, there is despair. There always is. But there is also hope. Joy. Laughter. Love. Despite the fact that you could die any day or night, despite the knowledge that you cannot trust anyone, there is community here. There is a sense of comfort, of caring. That is more important than the winning and the killing. That is what makes this SE. For me, that is what makes it home. Wilson Spoiler Voice Wilson. I imagine your voice as a clear, strong female voice, indeterminate age. What makes it noticeably you, though, is that it’s defined. Definite. You don’t speak in perhapses, but in truths. You know what was, what is, and what should be. Your voice shines light on everything around it, finding every little piece of information that’s hidden from everyone else. What's difficult to realize, though, is that light shines outward from you. It doesn’t reflect back unless you let it. So you can see everyone else with perfect clarity, but we only see you as a blinding light, with perhaps the vague suggestion of an angel, beautiful and terrible, seared onto our eyelids. But there is no way for us to know if that’s your true form, or even to see detail. We can see that you’re a deity, but we can’t see of what. Which is kind of scary. Your voice isn’t overshadowed by unknowable secrets, like Alv’s. With you, no one can ever tell whether there is a secret, because your light is so brilliant that the lies and half-truths are indistinguishable. Put simply, your voice is like white fire, from some mysterious fuel. Wondrous to see, but come too close and it will incinerate you without a second thought. Side note for Wilson that didn’t really fit with the rest - You vary between grimly determined warrior and bright savior, but either way, the reason you're so scary is because you always have a reason for your actions. You know exactly what you're doing, when no one else has any idea, and that is always easily seen. And thus, people follow you and trust you to lead, even when they really, really shouldn't. You have the power of the Bloodthirsty Goddess and the Brightness Ascendant combined within you, and that is much scarier than either alone. Sunrise/Sunset Metaphor time.Wilson. You have two natures, the Bloodthirsty Goddess and the Brightness Ascendant. They’re both still you, but they’re commonly thought of as unrelated personas. But I’ve realized that they’re not. They’re opposite ends of a whole.Because you’re light, Wilson. The sunshine, the daylight, the day. And those two personas are just each extreme of that day.The Bloodthirsty Goddess is the red-streaked sunset, bringing in the darkness and portending doom and destruction. She comes forth at endings, at vengeance and despair and betrayal. She is the avenger, the warrior of righteousness and the bringer of implacable justice. Inexorable, inescapable, the balancer of life and the instrument of retribution. It is she who brings about strife, and it is she who ends it with the finality of death and the sinking into night. But with the night must eternally come the dawn. And there dwells the Brightness Ascendant. She is the hope, the joy, the brilliant light, the faint gleam blossoming into heavenly glory. Beautiful, awe-inspiring, incandescent. She is the rise of the sun, the dawn of a new day, the divine essence of uncorrupted light. She is present at beginnings, at renewals, at uniting to create a greater whole. She is the angel of the morning, and she is the death of the night.The Bloodthirsty Goddess and the Brightness Ascendant aren’t separate entities. They’re opposite extremes of the same spectrum. That’s why they both fit you so well, Wilson, even though they seem so different. Because that spectrum, that day, is you. Faces I look, and I behold you, Wilson. A thousand faces, a thousand forms, many indistinct still: but a very few are clear. Sometimes, as the Brightness Ascendant, you are clad in white radiant glory, perhaps a dress, perhaps robes, but really neither of those things. Fabric is too material, too substantial, too concrete. There’s merely a bright glow.Other times, the Brightness Ascendant is not the awesome glory of the rise of a new day, but the simple rosy glow of dawn. And it’s then that I see the bare foot peeking past the white hem, stepping lightly on soft grass still wet with dew.Then other images intrude, of blood and fire and death and the Bloodthirsty Goddess. She’s dressed in armor, gray and unornamented, worn with use. It’s not worn for show or to impress, this armor. It’s made for war, and what war it has seen… And I see that war, too, the gleaming dagger slicing through the darkness, the clash of swords, the dying begging for mercy and receiving none.Then there are flashes of other images, too. You, clad in blood red and grinning too fiercely, with eyes of the same color. You, in the blue of the midday sky, still and calm and knowing. You, mischevious with forest-green eyes and hair cut short. You. I see hard grey eyes and bright blue ones, long flowing dresses and glowing radiance and battle-armor, touching kindness and brutal honesty, courage and fear and hope and doubt and certainty.I see you, Wilson, and it is wondrous. Haelbarde Spoiler I think the reason I was having such trouble with your voice, Hael, is that you don’t have a unified story that you’re telling. You don’t have a distinct persona. So what’s your core, then? What story do you tell? Who are you, in a single word?Thinker. That’s what you are. A planner, a plotter, a strategist. And now I hear you. Your voice is considered and careful, exploring every possibility, thinking things all the way through. You’re not the mad scientist giggling evilly in his lab, nor the brilliant genius who shines with every word. You’re more... methodical. Reasoning. A thoughtful, quiet baritone. Constantly asking questions, discussing, putting together possibilities to produce something new.And that’s what makes you dangerous. You don’t sound dangerous. No, you sound normal. Ordinary. Agreeable, even. But you are always thinking, planning, plotting, figuring things out. Your strength isn’t in manipulation. It’s in possibility. You don’t see facts, you see potentials. And that skill is dangerous here, but it’s not frightening, for me. It’s exciting. You always add to a game, whichever side you’re on, and personally, I think that’s really amazing. Orlok Spoiler Orlok. The problem I’ve had with writing your voice for quite a while has been the imagery. What can I compare you to? Because the thing is, you’re nothing like light or dark or a storm or an owl. Nothing even remotely related fits because… fundamentally, you are human. You could not exist outside the context of humanity. Light and Shadows simply are. They’re natural, primal, elemental. You’re not. With you, I think more of a perfect porcelain cup of tea, a simple circlet of silver steel, ink flowing measuredly from a fountain pen. Human images, not natural ones. But those aren’t ideals, nor are they quite perfect. So I’ll just use words: you’re thoughtful, and ambitious, and honorable, and incredibly considerate of others. You’re the most eloquent person I’ve ever met, and extremely intelligent, and you always give excellent advice. Most of all, you’re rational. Sanity. Reason. Every word and action is carefully considered, in order to be sure that you are saying and doing precisely what is in your best interests and the interests of those around you. You don’t want to rule the world or become immortal because you’re mad. You are perfectly, almost scarily sane. The voice I hear from your writing is nearly exactly that of your spoken voice: considered, restrained, collected. And that’s why you don’t fit with fundamental natural forces: because you’re reason. Order. Such things do not exist without humanity to give them shape and meaning. You exemplify humanity, Orlok, and all that it could be, and you will do all that you can to see its potential realized. And I think that is truly wonderful. Alvron Spoiler Voice When you’re normally talking, mostly medium deep male voice. Quiet, definitely. Um... competent-sounding? Knowledgeable? Something along those lines. Maybe hiding secrets behind each word... But such quiet secrets that you don’t notice until much later. But then, sometimes, there are moments when you slip into a different voice, and that one’s more difficult to define. The same calm competent matter-of-factness, with a smile in it... yet speaking death. And that very calmness makes it all the scarier. There, the secrets are brought to the fore, like you aren’t just making a prediction that something could happen, someday, somehow. It’s a promise. And you’re the only one who knows how it will come to be. And that is when you’re truly terrifying. The other point I wanted to make. I had a difficult time writing what I thought your voice sounded like, and after I finished I realized why. I didn't have many examples to choose from. Even in this doc you're being more talkative than in most of the docs in which I've been, and you're still much quieter than Hael, Wilson, or I. At the same time, you're not inactive like Twei or Kipper. You're obviously here. You're just observing, rather than speaking. And that's the other thing that makes you scary. You don't put your opinions, your self out there for all to see. Instead, you simply... watch, closely and carefully, and it feels like you're learning more than anyone ever intended to say about themselves, and remembering it for later. You don't talk, you listen and wait. And it's your very silence, even more than your voice, that is the scariest thing about you. Ocean Just think about the ocean, though. Seems innocuous, just a flat surface of sparkling waves and beautiful blue. But go beneath the surface, and you see so much more. The farther out to sea, the deeper you go, the more there is, and the more you realize you don’t know about the ocean. It’s so unknown, even still, and conceals so much in its hidden depths. No one knows all of what lurks down there, ever patient, waiting for the right moment to strike its prey. There’s a reason the ocean is terrifying. Peer down into the water sometime, on a still calm day, and just watch. Perhaps - if you’re very observant - you’ll see movement, down there, somewhere. Shadows, lurking in the water. Is it just fronds of kelp, or is it a sea monster? There’s no way of knowing. Not until it rises, rises, to eat you alive. Soul So, Alv. I’ve been saying for a long time that I’m going to be revising your voice at some point. And I could. I could talk about you through the lens of your voice, the danger of a whisper, the layers upon layers of meaning. And it would be fine. But I’m not going to. Because your voice doesn’t define you, Alv. It’s one of the least defining things about you. Which makes sense, given that you don’t talk. But I’ve already talked about that in the past, and that particular description I’m perfectly content with. So let’s go a step deeper, shall we? Let’s talk about Alv’s soul, the soul of the Shadows. Contrary to popular opinion, he does have one. And despite what even he says, it’s not tiny or withered or anything of the sort. Quite the opposite, in fact. Alvron’s soul is deep as the sea, dark as a shadow at midnight, vast as the void of interstellar space. It is constant dark whispers and writhing shadows on the surface, yet just beneath is an endless implacable patience, always watching, observing, planning. Lying in wait, never stirring until the moment when every piece is in its proper place. His is a soul of layers upon layers of secrets, never quite revealing everything. And it is… uncertainty. Ambiguity. The unknown. A deep, unfathomable well of stillness, secrets, silence, shadows. And all that is just the outer layers, as far as I dare penetrate. Any farther, and there is only a threat of insanity and the promise of death. The core of the Shadows? No one knows that but him, and none shall ever know. Mailliw Spoiler Your voice is... it’s audacious. Testing. Daring. What would happen if you tried this instead of the same old that? Controlled, curious chaos, testing and breaking assumptions and preconceptions. You’re almost like a storm, I think, sowing confusion and destruction in your wake. You shatter structure, destroy trust, break apart others’ plans, then move on to wreak havoc somewhere else. With every word, you inject a carefully controlled measure of chaos to see what doesn’t quite fit when the dust has settled. You exult in your own chaos, laughing amidst a maelstrom, even if you die as a result of that same storm. Because you’ll just come back and try something else, again and again, different every time. And that’s why you’re a threat, why you’re placed up there as someone to kill early and often. You’re unpredictable. Figuring out what you’ll do next is like trying to guess where the lightning’s going to strike. You’re an unknown factor, who can’t be accounted for or manipulated to suit another’s purposes. Because you’re a storm, Maill. A hurricane, a highstorm, a howling fury of the elements ripping apart everything in your path. Unknowable, unpredictable, and almost unstoppable. That’s how I hear your voice: daring to ride the storm and laughing triumphantly amidst it.No wonder people are wary of you. And you’re always smiling. That’s easy to hear. A grin of excitement when you’re trying something new and interesting. A teasing smile, when you’re blatantly trolling everyone. And, of course, a deceivingly honest smile when you’re lying through your teeth. (The smile is honest. The words are not.) But it’s always a smile. Elbereth Spoiler Well. I’ve been long enough. I’ve described plenty of other voices, other archetypes. So what am I? It’s obvious, isn’t it? I’m Light and Shadow, at once. I’m the Twilight, the ever-present moment between sunset and full night when light and shadows blend and mingle together in joyous unity. I’m the dim morning mists before the sun rises to her full glory, the spark lighting a candle in the darkening gloom, the clear voice of a child. I am the balance, the mediator, the harmony between order and chaos. Not uncompromising black or white, but neutral, listening grey. And I’m a silver mirror, reflecting back the best of what I see, revealing what is and what could be. I exist in the instant when the first star appears in the evening, and when the last shadow of night vanishes into sunrise, clad in my mother’s light and my father’s shadows, like both and unlike either. I am more than the sum of my parts: I am not Light or Shadow, instead uniting them in a sublime fusion of torment and encouragement and splendor. Thus I’m not blinded by either, but see clearly from within that twilight, weaving together each tiny piece into a coherent, harmonious song of wonder. I am a creator of worlds, bringer of hope and despair, singer of stories. For that is who I am, more than anything else: I am the Storyteller. Kasimir Spoiler Kas has the voice of a storyteller. Kind of like Hael’s, though a little less deep, the kind of voice you could listen to all day, that could bring you to passionate anger or broken defeat. The kind of voice that you will always believe, because how could such beautifully spoken words not be true? There is a logical and scholarly side too, of course, but that’s just one more voice, one more story to be told. Kas speaks with the voice of a thousand stories. Arraenae Spoiler Rae. For some reason, your voice has always been easy for me to hear. A young girl, cheerful, bubbling, laughing. But your archetype wasn’t clear to me until you said it yourself: you’re a bird. A little, tiny bird, flitting about, investigating everything you can find. However... you seem to have the impression you’re a sparrow, or something of that nature. You’re not: you’re still a baby bird, not yet grown until your full form. You’re not a sparrow, Rae. I think you’re a tiny snowy owl, still covered in downy fluff. Jump-hopping around, because you can’t quite fly yet, poking your beak into every nook and crevice you come across, endlessly curious. Even your call is a question: “Who? Who?”.I don’t know how you’ll grow up. I don't think even you know, yet. Perhaps you will stay your pure, snowy white and shine in the sun for all to wonder at. But I also see another future, one in which your wings slowly become tinged with darkness until you are a silent, black-feathered hunter in the deadly night.But whichever future you choose, one thing shall always stay the same. Your voice: “Who? Who?”. Always inquisitive, always friendly, and always a joy to hear. One other thing: You’ve said before that you see people convincing you that you can fly, just before you fall. And they may be tossing you out there, yes, perhaps with their own motivations, but they’re not just letting you fall.They’re teaching you to fly.And you will fly, Rae, high and far above the world, until there’s no one who can pull you down anymore. Proooobably more than i should of, heh. Since we were both kill roles, we agreed on a truce, so i’d figured i was safe from him killing me. But later on he was hit with a bout of paranoia, and was convinced i was an eliminator rather than a neutral, and so then he killed me. At the time i was pretty annoyed, and so drew the death scene to vent It all worked out pretty well in Lopens favour though, so i’m not mad These were fun to draw though. All the drama! Found alone and doomed to die he contemplated the meaning of life and found naught but void and silent words of other minds. Araris, wiser that all us fools. In to him the words that Bugsy heard were shouts calling out the doom of all that is and will be. Deathclutch, feeling the cold hand of his namesake he stepped forward, embracing his own doom. Silverblade, robbed of words, bowed before death and rushed to meet him for now he had something to call his own. The Paranoid King, his kingdom taken and his allies dead, is reduced to a skeleton on a shattered throne. Ecthelion, a god in name and blood. Torn to shreds by his own people after killing those who had no breath to give him. Mark, the forgetful tactician. Killing himself and hoping he survived so he would be harder to kill is something only a genius or a fool would do. He was unlucky and died by his own hand. Twelth, befriender of animals and a great mathematician had his blood splattered on the cobbles by a rabbit he had thought his friend. Silver Dragon, rich in silver, poor in faith and morals had his past catch up to him at a deadly pace. Lopen, the survivorist. He died like any other person would. Conquestor, dead from a bunny attack. QF18: We all fear death but some embrace it fully. Some who feel death's touch upon their lives weep, others kill, and some swear to protect. Alvron, Lord of the Shadows, fell to the fury of the mob. Metacognition, killed thrice over, once by fire, once by a knife, and once by a blade in the shadows. Stink, lone voice calling out his statements at all who would listen, fallen to the blades of of his critics. Bard, blocker of paths, found all the ways out closed. Magestar, messanger, bringing together the threads of society until he pulled on the wrong ones. Assassin, a misleading name, but that did not stop many from thinking that was his true nature. Conquestor, silent as death itself. Darkness, protector, manipulator, and killer. This hunter became prey. Stick, creator of light, illuminator of the innocent and the guilty. Died to those who doubted his truth. Mark, killed by the whim of a firebringer. Elenion, a great champion of light fallen to the knives of darkness. Sheep, a corpse walking. Kept standing only by a mistake of the gods. Ecthelion, the last spy, fallen to the lynch. Basically, I'll try and add anything noteworthy that gets mentioned frequently and might be confusing to a new user, and if there's confusion they can come here and use the mighty powers of Control-F to find the relevant SEncyclopedia entry. (Note: I've only done just enough so people can see what Players Maill/Mailliw/Mailliw73 - one of the most active players in SE. Known for their excellent lying and scheming skills, they are on a 2 year hiatus while they complete their Mission on behalf of the Mormon Church. ... (To be continued when I can be bothered. I’ve been saying for a long time that I’m going to be revising your voice at some point. And I could. I could talk about you through the lens of your voice, the danger of a whisper, the layers upon layers of meaning. And it would be fine. But I’m not going to. Because your voice doesn’t define you, Alv. It’s one of the least defining things about you. Which makes sense, given that you don’t talk. But I’ve already talked about that in the past, and that particular description I’m perfectly content with. So let’s go a step deeper, shall we? Let’s talk about Alv’s soul, the soul of the Shadows. Contrary to popular opinion, he does have one. And despite what even he says, it’s not tiny or withered or anything of the sort. Quite the opposite, in fact. Alvron’s soul is deep as the sea, dark as a shadow at midnight, vast as the void of interstellar space. It is constant dark whispers and writhing shadows on the surface, yet just beneath is an endless implacable patience, always watching, observing, planning. Lying in wait, never stirring until the moment when every piece is in its proper place. His is a soul of layers upon layers of secrets, never quite revealing everything. And it is… uncertainty. Ambiguity. The unknown. A deep, unfathomable well of stillness, secrets, silence, shadows. And all that is just the outer layers, as far as I dare penetrate. Any farther, and there is only a threat of insanity and the promise of death. The core of the Shadows? No one knows that but him, and none shall ever know. 10
