WayneSpren he/him Posted November 6, 2016 Posted November 6, 2016 @Patar it's almost been 24 hours... *Giddy with excitement*
Patar he/him Posted November 6, 2016 Author Posted November 6, 2016 And Marsh is the champion of the Second Annual Sanderson Tournament!!! I just wanted to thank all of you who participated in the tournament, and I'm glad to see that so many of you enjoyed it! When I made the interest thread, I had thought that a lot of people wouldn't feel like doing this again, but I was so, so wrong. The turnout was much better than I expected, and although I had some issues with starting the next rounds on time (which I am very sorry for), I think this all went very smoothly overall! Thought it might be fun to include some fun facts about this tournament: The fight between the two champions of the tournament, Marsh and Vin, received seven votes, which was lower than most of the other rounds. Before the final round, Marsh had received 31 votes overall, Kaladin had received 30. Roshar and Scadrial dominate this tournament. The only character from another planet who has ever posed a threat was Vasher, who made it to the semi finals last year. He was also the only character not from Roshar or Scadrial to advance past the first round this year. Both victors have been from Scadrial. Lift was the only character not to receive a vote. She lost 9-0 to Marsh in the very first round. Marsh also beat Kaladin in last years tournament 9-2. Obliteration is the only Reckoners character to have ever advanced beyond the first round. He did so last year. The final round involving Marsh and Kaladin received 16 votes, tied for the highest voting turnout in the tournament. The other match that received 16 also involved Kaladin. Adolin got third place this year, but last year wasn't so kind to our favorite Kholin duelist. He lost to Syl in the first round. Dalinar, who finished second last year, lost to Szeth early in the tournament. Nobody who made the final four last year (Vin, Dalinar, Kelsier, Vasher) made it past the quarter finals. If there's anything you wish to discuss about the tournament, like any issues you had with it or ideas for next year (if we do it next year), I'd be happy to hear them! I have somewhere I needed to be five minutes ago, but I really wanted to end the tournament on time. I'll look at them and talk about the future of the tournament when I get back. Once again, I cannot thank you all enough for participating in this! I'm glad you all had fun! 8

Guest Posted November 6, 2016 Posted November 6, 2016 Adolin lost to Syl last year? How did that happen?
manukos he/him Posted November 6, 2016 Posted November 6, 2016 greate job @Patar , it was fun i already mentioned my small gripes if ithink of anything else maybe i'll message you maybe i won't
Shardmonk he/him Posted November 6, 2016 Posted November 6, 2016 Well this was fun. Since Patar voted for Marsh and he ended up winning, this was all clearly rigged. Out of interest, how were the first match ups decided?
WayneSpren he/him Posted November 6, 2016 Posted November 6, 2016 Marsh actually won. The diagram is complete. The sense of closure right now is overpowering. Thanks for making the tournament, Patar! And thanks for everyone who participated! (Even you weirdos who voted against Marsh )
Toaster Retribution he/him Posted November 7, 2016 Posted November 7, 2016 Sad its over... but it was fun! Thanks for the good job Patar! 1
A Secret Corner he/him Posted November 7, 2016 Posted November 7, 2016 (edited) Marsh won? Edited November 7, 2016 by Secrets
Toaster Retribution he/him Posted November 8, 2016 Posted November 8, 2016 Yup. Ironeyes is the last man standing.
Patar he/him Posted November 25, 2016 Author Posted November 25, 2016 So after taking a brief hiatus from the Shard, I'd just like some quick input on how we should do this next year. I do have a few ideas: We wait and start the third tournament a few weeks after Stormlight Three releases. That way many of the characters who will be in the tournament might have new powers and further development. All battles involving information pertaining to the Oathbringer with obviously be laden with spoilers, and should be tagged as such. We start the tournament around the same time as normal, sometime in September or October. My only problem with this is that the AU might be the only book we get until that point, and besides Lift, many characters may not get any development. What do you guys think? 1

Maybe next year, could we grow the tournament from 32 to 64? I realize it would last a lot longer, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Also, I'd be fine with hosting the tournament. Maybe. You know, if you want. Don't yell at me. 2
Toaster Retribution he/him Posted November 25, 2016 Posted November 25, 2016 (edited) I think we should wait for Oathbringer, unless something unforseen happens and it gets delayed, or something like that. But if it comes October-November, I think we are cool. And it does make sense to allow the characters some more development. Also, Im with @WayneSpren for having 64 people. That will allow more minor guys to get some attention as well. Because some characters will always be there, and take spots (Marsh, Kaladin, Kelsier, Vin, Vasher, list goes on) but with 64 we get a longer tournament (which is good, cause its fun), and also a chance for more characters to appear. Elenion he/him Posted November 26, 2016 Posted November 26, 2016 I'm with Chull: wait for Oathbringer and increase tournament size from 32 to 64. Even if a bunch of obscure characters do get in, they'll probably get eliminated by the big names sooner or later. 1
Patar he/him Posted November 29, 2016 Author Posted November 29, 2016 64 characters is fine by me. I'd also rather wait until Oathbringer, even though that may delay the start of the tournament. 1
