WindCaller Posted September 6, 2016 Posted September 6, 2016 I've been browsing the cosmere facebook groups and came across an interesting question. If you had a twinborn power set, which would you pick and why? You may choose whether you would be in the cosmere or just in real life, if you would wish. Let's assume none of the god metals or their alloys. I am often late to wherever I am going, but do not often move once I am there (desk job), so I think I would pick Feruchemical Speed. Assuming that things like computers can work inside a speed bubble, I would most likely pick bendalloy to speed up time for myself. This combination would be interesting since I could both store speed quickly while losing comparatively little time in the world. I could also get work done quickly as well For reference, here are the powers:http://coppermind.net/wiki/Metallic_Arts#Metals_and_their_abilities
Xander Freud he/him Posted September 6, 2016 Posted September 6, 2016 I would probably choose a zinc compounder, what with the enhanced mental speed. You would be able to instantly comprehend the situation and determine which emotions need a subtle nudge. Along with that, I feel constantly thinking at a faster pace than everyone else would give me a boost to gain a place of respect rather quickly. It's hard to outthink someone who can understand every thought that framed your plan, thus allowing me to avoid the trap (or whatever) Hope that made sense, I'm kind of rambling. 1
hoidhunter he/him Posted September 6, 2016 Posted September 6, 2016 I've answered this question many times in posts...but...that's ok...because I think about it daily anyway. for the cosmere, gotta go with seeker, soulbearer. in a world were anyone could have superpowers, being able to identify and scrutinize those people without their knowledge would be pretty awesome. I'm totally with Marsh when he talks about how it's the most under appreciated of the allomantic powers. Intelligence is a real game changer...the more you know...the bigger advantage you have. By using feruchemy to store, and later use allomantic strength, you would be one of the only people alive who could pierce copper clouds. I'm also guessing that this would add range and sensitivity to your detection...making it easier to do all the things that Marsh talks about it taking years of practice to master...and possibly pushing the boundaries into doing some really crazy, seeker oriented things. Could you identify potential allomancers who haven't even snapped yet? Could you be the first seeker to ever detect a feruchamist tapping? Could you identify Kandra? For real life...I'm assuming that this means that there are no other metal born around...which would make being an awesome seeker kind of unfortunate. I've spent a lot of time pondering over the usefulness of different powers. And really...almost any of them would be awesome. One that I'm really curious about though...is what a tin compounder would be able to do. We get a good look at the power of tin pushed to extremes with spook. I'm more than a little curious what could be done when those powers were pushed even farther...and made a little more dynamic...while removing some of the nasty side effects of savantism. In theory...you would have unlimited access to enhancing any or all of your senses to absurd levels by tapping tin minds. You could, at the same time, burn tin, which would take their sensitivity even farther, while also granting you the ability to ignore unwanted sensory input. Imagine being able to eavesdrop on conversations taking place on private jets flying overhead. Or read the serial numbers of orbital satellites. Tell if someone had cancer by how they smell. Or predict earthquakes by touch.
CalaCrisp88 Posted September 6, 2016 Posted September 6, 2016 Steel compounder. Burning my metalminds would let me go really REALLY fast, which is helpful cause I'm always late, heh heh. And steelpushing is just awesome.
DrakeMarshall he/him Posted September 6, 2016 Posted September 6, 2016 So many interesting possibilities... Let me list my top three: 1. I might have to agree with Xander and go with Zinc compounder. If you had a ton of zinc (and I might mean a literal ton here) you might well be able to write your own diagram (and do it over and over again with enough zinc, and zinc isn't a very rare metal ). Infinite diagrams definitely gets first place for me. 2. Lets consider what a nicrosil compounder would be capable of. Presumably they could increase the strength of their nicrosil allomancy to extreme levels. Not only could they use compounding to become a stronger nicrosil allomancer, but they could also use compounding to become a stronger nicrosil feruchemist, which would in turn let them compound more. It's a positive feedback loop on top of compounding so they could probably break the limits of even normal compounding. This will have two effects I imagine: First of all... The only usable outlet for all this power is their nicrosil allomancy. They could probably enhance someone else's powers to extraordinarily insane levels for a short burst. Second of all... Containing all that investiture would probably give them some special awareness. I remember Wax described being more aware of investiture when he held the bands of mourning... I think someone like this would have an innate sense of investiture (probably it would feel more like a biochromatic heightening than like burning bronze), just because they themselves are so invested that they are connected to ruin and preservation. Such a person would be pretty useless on their own... But around other magic users their abilities would be incredible. Second place because the idea seems fascinating. 3. Iron compounding would be pretty awesome too. You have as much mass as you need, and you can ironpull. This gives you near limitless destructive ability. You could topple a distant building over without any visible effort. This secures third place for me because this power is just a little insane and it also happens to come from the most common metal in existence.

I was under the impression that it was just the mental equivalent of someone who can speed up time for themselves. Is there a WoB about this one? *edit* For example, it would allow me to think through consequences of a situation in a second, as opposed to taking an hour. But let's say it was something related to maths or physics. If I already knew how to do the equations, then it would allow me to solve them quickly, but without that knowledge, I wouldn't be able to solve them no matter how quickly I could think. marsoupial they/them Posted September 6, 2016 Posted September 6, 2016 (edited) After months-long deliberation, I decided I'd want to be a Lurcher/Spinner. I love the idea of Pulling on metals, and, come on. Luck? Luck. In second place, I'd choose Electrum/Zinc. Third, probably Tin Compounder. Just for fun. (Honorary mentions go to Iron Compounding and Chromium Compounding) Edited September 6, 2016 by bleeder
Clattanoia Posted September 6, 2016 Posted September 6, 2016 My first pick for real world or cosmere would be a Chromium Compounder because I would be so lucky that I could walk at someone shooting a gun at me and be perfectly fine. my number two would be Allomantic Zinc and feruchemical Duralumin because instant friendship and you can make people feel however you want.
Rasarr she/her Posted September 6, 2016 Posted September 6, 2016 Hm... from sheer curiosity, I think one of possible combinations for me would be A. Gold and F. Aluminum. Then I'd love to experiment with how changing my "level" of Identity changes my gold shadows. Perhaps I could see several gold shadows when storing, or "take on" another gold shadow when tapping Identity? Probably not very useful in a long run, but fascinating for experimentation. For something more practical, I think I'd take Bronze compounding. Sensing other magic users could certainly be useful, but I admit I'm more interested in the prospect of compounding wakefulness - having to only sleep something like one hour a day would certainly be useful.
goody153 Posted September 6, 2016 Posted September 6, 2016 I wouldn't pick separate metal if i were to pick i'd always pick the twinborn abilities that could compound. As for what Zinc Compounder(i'm gonna some kind of successful businessman or poltician ezly) Electrum Compounder (unlimited determination actually sounds so sick IRL .. also it helps that i could see what possible moves i could do when i'm feeling blank as storm) Pewter Compouding (self-explanatory) Steel Compouding (literally a superhero)
