marsoupial they/them Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 (edited) Ok, I know this is kind of out there, but with Brandon, I learn to expect the unexpected. Brace yourselves. I was mowing the lawn today when I thought of something terrifying: What if Steris was secretly affiliated with the Set? There's some evidence, as much as I dislike it, because I love Steris, but, y'know. (Bear with me here) Ok, so. In AoL, when Steris is Spoiler kidnapped by the Set "randomly," that gives her perfect opportunity to confer with Suit and stuff. She could be an inside spy in Wax's group, getting info. She always seems so strange when in a gunfight, and in general. Her "naive" thing could all be an act. I know, I know. "He's gone crazy" But the more you think about it, the more sense it makes, and the more you hate me for bringing it up. You're welcome. Edited August 29, 2016 by bleeder
StormyQueen she/her Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 Personally I think that this is quite unlikely. Why kidnap Steris when I'm sure there are easier ways to make contact. By doing this, it would only raise Wax's drive to oppose them, and it rids them of a spy during AoL. Also, with her being strange during a gunfight, she has been protected from that sort of thing for much of her life, and isn't really much of a fighter anyway. Steris is a planner, and I find that her actions would be perfectly normal. Plus, surely, it would be less productive to put on a show of naivity, rather than work in the field, probably gaining less information. As well as that, her naivity does seem real, and I would say it isn't an act So, overall, I'd find it quite unlikely, and I wouldn't feel that it would fit with what we have seen of her. 1
Kingsdaughter613 she/her Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 I think the op may be referring to Steris finding the fights arousing. This isn't an unheard of reaction in real life though; it isn't even that unusual. Being in a fight causes adrenaline to flow and different people react to it differently. For some it is an almost euphoric experience. Others get very calm and focused, while others react in the exact opposite manner. So I'd say that it's interesting, but not unusual. If your referring to how she keeps calm in a crisis, again, that isn't unusual. Her asperger's may actually help her here, odd as that may sound. And she is shaken later; Marasi points that out.

Yeah, it's pretty unlikely, but I think up weird stuff. And with Brandon, you can never be too careful
Argent he/him Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 You take your filthy accusations away from Steris-bae! 4

It was painful for me to even put it in words. And now, after carefully rereading Aol, her good name is cleared. I apologize for any offense. Love to Steris. 1
marsoupial they/them Posted October 17, 2016 Author Posted October 17, 2016 REVIVED. After re-reading BoM, I realized how lovely of a character Steris truly is. How she is loyal and loving to Wax, how perfect she is for him, and how Sanderson always lets good things happen. One of those things was a lie. Guess which one? I found the whole "safest place in a gunfight is near you" thing again, and I smiled cause it was cute. Then I was struck with a realization: what if that is her downfall? What if, in TLM, she meets her end because she was too brave and stuck by Wax in a gunfight? I fear for the worst, dear readers.
nervousnerd he/him Posted October 17, 2016 Posted October 17, 2016 I think it unlikely that there will be another "surprise, they were with the Set the whole time" plotline. It would be anticlimactic at this point. I do think that it is possible that she may die but I don't see how Wax would make it past the death of another person he loves, especially if he is able to blame himself for it. I suppose they both could pull a Vin and Elend and die together. 1

I suppose they both could pull a Vin and Elend and die together. I would absolutely agree. Plus, I think it would just have an 'again' sort of feeling to it since Wax has 'killed' Lessie twice now. I was almost expecting her to show up in BoM so Shen could be killed again Edited October 17, 2016 by CalypsoDreaming
TheBlueShifting he/him Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 (edited) It's an interesting thought, although I cannot entertain it (Far too trusting, I would rather trust and be betrayed) because she is such a wonderful character. I admit it would be quite a twist and very possible. I'll be keeping a close eye on her, but I think that Wax's sister was the big twist of the series. Well that and the invasion of another god. No I think the big twist involving Steris is I think she is a Misting. I think she is going to be revealed as an Atium Misting. How fitting would it be that the one who feels like she is the most useless in the group, would hold a secret power that is unrivaled to be the best. It's been about long enough for Atiums return. I'd imagine it would be incredibly awesome. Especially if she can use the alloymancy cube to then share her power with Wax in a gunfight so Wax becomes Neo from the Matrix. There's no Atium around for anyone to use right now, so any Seers would have been undetected and useless, but if they discover a source of Atium, she'd suddenly become nigh-invincible, and the cubes would make that exponentially more valuable (though possibly relegating her to a behind-the-scenes factory for Atium cubes, useless again except for the "product" she supplies, rather than being out on the front lines herself, which she may or may not prefer). 1
marsoupial they/them Posted October 21, 2016 Author Posted October 21, 2016 Maybe, in an interesting twist, she is a Chromium Ferring?
Farnsworth Posted October 26, 2016 Posted October 26, 2016 Maybe she is a ferring of one of the metals with unknown affects, and that affect is list-making? 1

Maybe this was more referring to metals that we haven't seen the effects for or ones that are not easily useful without other feruchemical or allomantic abilities. Chromium, bendalloy, or maybe Electrum. The effects may not be readily visible and therefore discounted. I assume since we know the effects of all of the metals from the Ars Arcanum, I assume they are all know in universe (or cosmere) as well.
