Lightweavers and transportation

Vaatuu

Question

Hello, for the last week or so I've been reading WoR when I noticed something, how can Shallo, a Lightweaver, enter the Shadsmar if she doesn't have access to the transportation surge.

PS: I've only ever realy posted on this forum once before and that was several years ago so I apologize for any rules I brake or mistakes I make.

It is unlikely that the transportation surge is needed to enter the Cognitive Realm. There are hints that the other orders may be able to do it as well, Kaladin briefly sees the black sun present in Shademar while wind running through the chasms.

Thanks for clearing that up

Manipulation the transformation surge seems to closely involve Shadesmar as well. Manipulation of any surge by a surgebinding probably approaches them to the Cognitive realm because of the spren they are bonded to. We never saw any mention of Szeth leaking into Shadesmar, though we may not have had enough of his parts to see.

Szeth's bond was also a special case, so it may be in relevance to the spren specifically

That's what I'm saying. The spren caused the leakage, not the surgebinding. Szeth wasn't bonded to anything, he just held an honorblade. But if we had seen him leak into Shadesmare, then we would know it was more the surgebinding and less the spren.

My apologies for misreading. I read your Szeth statement and thought you were using it for a different purpose

Edit: for the topic, do we know if the ardents using normal soulcasters see the CR or if that's just Jasnah/Shallan?

I don't think we saw any mention of it.

It might be similar to healing. Anyone with Stormlight can heal themselves, but only those with Progression can heal others. It's possible that Transformation allows for a person to transition theirself but that Transportation allows them to bring others along.

i don't think there was any specific mention of it, but I believe that Shadesmar as a concept is a bit more widely known (though I'd have trouble sorting through 2000 pages of SA books to find the quotes that lead me to think that), so it may be that others do see it.  or it may be that they know of it for unrelated reasons.

We don't know anything about the Soulcasting ardents...

Although it's true that Roshar knows about Realms - back in WoK, in the ardents interlude (quantum entanglement of flamespren, Interlude 8) they casually mention all three Realms.
