Thingol
Hello there! This is my first topic so I hope I'm not breaking some rules by posting it here. I just recently finished reading Way of Kings and, overall, I enjoyed it. Worldbuilding was great and there were some good characters. I especially liked Shallan and Jasnah and I'm therefore looking forward to reading Words of Radiance. However, I was kind of bored with the whole Shattered Plain situation and the whole setting and the idea of it just doesn't resonate with me. Not that it's badly executed or anything like that, I guess it just isn't what I like. So I come to you with my question: has Brandon given any kind of roadmap regarding the overall direction of the series? Do we know how much of the action/books will be set on the Plains and/or dealing with the war? I do t think I would stop reading even if he told me he is going to spend the entire series on that but I thought I may ask anyway Thanks and it will be nice to get to know all of you guys!
PeterAhlstrom he/him
Ask this question again after you read book two.
Windrunner he/him
I think, given the richness of the world Brandon's built on Roshar, we're sure to see more of it than the tiny desolate corner that is the Shattered Plains.
Awesomeness Summoned he/him
I don't believe he has given a framework for the series but I gather from the already released chapters and interludes that the small conflict with the parshendi on the shattered plains will be a wrapped up for the most part in WoR and will move on to more global problems and conflicts. Likely, 62 days after the start of the book things are gonna go south quickly.
Mysty she/her
Well, t is planned to be a ten book series with two five book arcs. Each book will give the back story of a character through flashbacks. Note that brandon does not promise the character will not die before getting to his/her flaskback book. Brandon planns for kaladin, shallan, dalinar, and szeth to have flashback books in the first arc (I don't know who the fifth will be). As for the shattered plains, at the very minimum, I imagine much of WoR will take place there because Jasnah and Shallan are joining the warcamps. Location of the rest of the series may depend on where Urithiru actually is. Action should get more interesting on the shattered pains with Dalinar forcing the codes and stuff on the highprinces, Jasnah hunting for Urithiru, szeth coming to assasinate dalinar, and the changing tacticts of the parshendi hinted at in the chapter bumps in the released excerpts. In any case, welcome to the forums!

Focus characters for the first five books are: Kaladin, Shallan, Szeth, Eshonai (the Parshendi shardbearer from the Tower, who gets a series of interludes in WoR like Szeth did in WoK), and Dalinar. Thingol
Thanks for the replies guys! Yes on the one hand it seemed improbable that he would focus on such a minor element of Roshar but at the same time it seemed like much of the first book was there to set up the war so I wasn't sure what to make of it. I will definitely be checking out those released materials
Delightful
If the parshendi are voidbringers as Jasnah believes, and if the Shattered Plains ends up being the location of Urithiru, The Shattered Plains could become very significant. Also I'm going to hazard a guess that whatever Actually caused the shattering will be significant. That being said, I can't really see a 10 book series of 1000 page books staying in a single location. Guess we'll have to read WoR to find out though....(why do you do this Peter Ahlstrom now I'm even more desperate to read it!!!!)

JoeAgain he/him
One thing I particularly love about the interludes is the opportunity to see far-flung places throughout the world. Brandon's worlds are very rich, but most of his stories happen in a very small piece of the geography.
