Argel he/him Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 Let's not forget it's Oath first then the Truth's start. So how far along was she back before having to almost start over?
Erklitt Posted July 9, 2016 Posted July 9, 2016 Just came across a phrase that I never gave any thought to before because I simply had no idea what it meant. This time, so shortly after sharing in this thread, it suddenly hit me on the head. So I guess this is the best place to post this, even if it's something of a necro: WoR Ch. 45 Middlefest (Wit speaking to Shallan in private) Quote "Tell me, young one. Do spren speak to you?"The lights going out, life drained from them. Twisted symbols the eye should not see. Her mother's soul in a box. "I ..." she said. "No. Why would a spren speak to me?" That ominous garden scene. That sentence I highlighted in the quote. Shallan playing in the garden. Speaking a truth. Reaching the level that gives her access to Pattern as a Blade. Visiting Shadesmar. Soulcasting for the first time. Probably by accident, almost certainly not understanding what she's doing. In Shadesmar, lifes are seen as lights. 4

I always thought that line refered to her draining Stormlight from spheres. Your interpretation is definitely more interesting.
Argel he/him Posted July 9, 2016 Posted July 9, 2016 The "life drained from them" lends it credibility. Good catch. Regaring necro'sing a thread, some peopl,e may only read on the weekends, or could be out on vacation for a week or two. I don't think those qualify as necro-ing a thread. Probably more like closer to a month or two. Also, if the thread is appropriate, necro'ing it is okay.
Zoaez she/her Posted July 30, 2016 Posted July 30, 2016 Or we work so hard it's weeks before we get back, heh. Great catch on the lights fading, I too just thought of spheres. Maybe her final truth is about death after all. Or the lights fading relate to her mother's death. This past month when I dwelt on this topic I really feel like the final truth will address Shalan's view of her self worth. She came from a very abusive back ground. Children of severe abuse or neglect have issues with self worth. They can be amazing at something but only see failure. There inner voice tells them to be ashamed, they don't deserve anything good, they are trash, ect. Basically our parents voice at age 0-6 acts our internal dialog to a degree. There are plenty of signs of this in Shalan, she feels more comfortable pretending to be someone else, and views her persona as Shalan as fake, that she's really horrible and broken. The final truth might be separate, but I feel it will be a major pillar of her last confession. That she is a wonerful, worthy person, or that her father was always a horrible person. I'm interested to see if it ties into her father and mother or some other major even (that involves death). 3
