YES 3 hours ago, Morzathoth said: I would dress up as creepily as possible (In my opinion Halloween isnt about looking like something, thats for cosplayers, Halloween is about looking horrifying), but Halloween is sadly barely a thing here and even if it was I completely lack a social life so I dont have a reason to dress up. Halloween is about looking awesome. If horrifying is your awesome, then that's great. For me, I'll probably just wear my WorldCon Masquerade costume on Halloween.
Mistrunner Posted August 10, 2016 Posted August 10, 2016 I think my homework progress can be best explained through the lyrics of a certain song by Mumford and Sons: "A white blank page and a swelling rage." 6

(Pronounced "SOW - wen") It's supposedly the time of year when the veil between the spirit world and ours are at their thinnest. But instead of this being a scary thing, tradition holds that it was a time to set out offerings for your ancestors and passed-on loved ones who are likely to come home for a visit when the going is easy. It wasn't until the later Christianization of the Celtic pagan holidays happened that the scary stuff came into play. Modern pagans focus on the ancestor veneration, via offerings, divinations, or meditations. 2
Oversleep Posted August 10, 2016 Posted August 10, 2016 (edited) @Kaymyth, if we go this route, then Christmass is about the god of sun Where. Is. My. White. Sand?! The amazon says it's "arriving today by 8pm"... but for me, 8pm passed 95 minutes ago. No mail. No sms. Why does amazon want my phone number if it isn't used?! Edited August 10, 2016 by Oversleep

TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted August 10, 2016 Posted August 10, 2016 Just be sure to cosplay around people you find attractive. Then it won't be so much a requirement as a perk. 3

Nobody cosplaying as any character is required to do anything they are not comfortable with doing.

Modern pagans focus on the ancestor veneration, via offerings, divinations, or meditations. Sure, if you want to get really technical... ok, fine, I just think scary stuff needs a holiday and we kind of already do, so there. October is the month of scary stuff. We need a holiday dedicated to weird, surreal things. I declare my birthday: February 27 Weirdoween... or Halloweird... or Weirdmas... Im still working on it. In fact lets just declare the entire month of February the month of weird. Any especially weird days coinciding with Valentines have nothing to do with that I really dislike Valentines and feel like ruining it for everybody. Yes. But like our unsparkly Overlordess (Overlordette? Overlady? (Twi what do you prefer?)) said you can just make it a perk of the cosplay.

The real question is: Why wouldn't you want it to be? But there are good reasons why I shouldn't! Like the fact I don't know how to make costumes, and have no time, and also because too many of my favorite characters are the opposite sex! "I am no man," doesn't work as a line if the one using it identifies as 100% male. (Also, as a side note and apropos of nothing, I feel like female characters get cooler costumes a lot of the time) 1 minute ago, TwiLyghtSansSparkles said: Just be sure to cosplay around people you find attractive. Costuming can be learned, and crossplay is totally a thing that happens all over the place. Tons of people take their favorite opposite-sex characters and make them into their own so they can wear them. Hell, I've been pondering making a Femme!Starlord costume someday because it'd be awesome. And while we're talking about costumes - my Masquerade entry continues apace. Tomorrow, ThirdGen is coming over to help write and record my voiceover for the competition. My plans are to do a faux-50s/60s vintage "how to" video entitled, "Part 14 of How Everypony Can Blend In!" Today's subject will be in what the human world terms the "Victorian" era. (Seriously, ThirdGen has the perfect baritone for doing one of those things.)

Nah, I'm going with Penelope Quill. Straight-out femme!Quill. Because I can. (Assuming I ever work my way down to that costume on my list.) There are male cosplayers everywhere around here. I don't know why they're so rare in your neck of the woods. And I actually enjoy using my costumes as a way to talk to folks at cons. I'm an introvert, so I tend to let myself get a bit lost in the sea of people if I don't have a friend to "anchor" myself to. Wearing cool costumes is a way to get people to talk to me of their own volition and allow me to hide my awkwardness.
Quiver he/him Posted August 10, 2016 Posted August 10, 2016 ...I'd say Quill is too similar to Quiver, but I think ijust have a huge ego. Honestly? I live in a rural area, and never actually see anyone who isn't family...and I'm sure none of them would be impressed by it. (Honestly, half the stuff I talk about online would probably surprise them in real life.)
