Nick Spencer is Hydra and he's trying to get us all to lose faith in our hero. And for what it's worth, the actor playing that hero reacted thusly: You have to wonder what would have been the worse idea, this twist or Hydra unleashing a double-agent that proficient at beating them. Now, propaganda and lies, that makes perfect sense.
Quiver he/him Posted May 29, 2016 Posted May 29, 2016 (edited) I just found the best strategy for dealing with Marvel's latest twist. Yep. Nick Spencer is Hydra and he's trying to get us all to lose faith in our hero. And for what it's worth, the actor playing that hero reacted thusly: IGN kind of has a theory about this twist... See, for the last few years, Cap has been Old Man Steve. He just turned back into a young man right before his new comic came out thanks to a human cosmic cube called Kobik...which Zemo had been trying to steal. Cap's first issue was about him bringing Zemo in, then apparently freeing him. A theme of Spencer's Capwork has been updating the character and the themes for the 21st Century, such as all the hullabaloo earlier this year when he made Sam Wilson Captain America and had him fight Border Patrol police. Furthermore, the flashbacks showing Cap being recruited to Hydra features a woman named "Eliza Sinclair", who has a red shadow...and the Red skull has a daughter named Sin. S, the theory is that Zemo or Sin hijacked the cosmic cube white it was deaging Steve, rewrote his history to make him their ally, and this storyline is going to be about saving Captain America's legacy from Captain America himself. Which would be insanely meta, considering people's reactions to it... Edited May 29, 2016 by Quiver

TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted May 29, 2016 Posted May 29, 2016 American names for Muggles, round two. Jays (used to be slang for "fool," but now it just sounds like the bird) Mugs (just shorten Muggle! No one will notice ) Jades ('cause they're all jaded….get it? Get it?????) ….. Screw it. They will be called Parkhursts, after the name of some historical figure or other I glimpsed in the book I'm reading.
Jo and the Bush all/any Posted May 29, 2016 Posted May 29, 2016 Just call 'em skeptics? Or skeppies? 1
TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted May 29, 2016 Posted May 29, 2016 Just call 'em skeptics? Or skeppies? Hmmm….skeppies works. Or skeps, even. American Muggles are more skeptical than their British counterparts…..
Kobold King he/him Posted May 29, 2016 Posted May 29, 2016 My brother checked out a book called Happyface from the library. You had one job, cover illustrator. One job. 5
TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted May 29, 2016 Posted May 29, 2016 My brother checked out a book called Happyface from the library. You had one job, cover illustrator. One job. At least it's not unsettlingly cheerful, which is more what I'd expect from a book called Happyface.

Orlion Blight he/him Posted May 29, 2016 Posted May 29, 2016 I like Mugs. I, too, like Mugs. Has a nice rustic, mafia feel to it.
TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted May 29, 2016 Posted May 29, 2016 I like Mugs. Maybe Mug could be the East Coast equivalent, those states being the original British colonies. Skeppie could be more of a Midwestern thing, with the West Coast shortening it to Skep.

Heck, comparing them to birds could even be an insult. Caged in the mundane world, and none too bright to boot... 1
Jo and the Bush all/any Posted May 29, 2016 Posted May 29, 2016 Does anyone know where I could find some Codex Alera Fan fiction?

Caged in the mundane world, and none too bright to boot... Well, for me, the wizards of HP world are more caged than Muggles. No one is trying to hide anything from them, and yet Arthur Weasley is baffled by a rubber duck. The wizards are putting themselves in a 18th century cage.

Heck, comparing them to birds could even be an insult. Caged in the mundane world, and none too bright to boot... Funny story: I actually considered those two before dismissing them out of hand because I was afraid y'all would find them stupid. Well, for me, the wizards of HP world are more caged than Muggles. No one is trying to hide anything from them, and yet Arthur Weasley is baffled by a rubber duck. The wizards are putting themselves in a 18th century cage. I'm inclined to agree with you there.
Oversleep Posted May 29, 2016 Posted May 29, 2016 For me, DC and Marvel comics are a mess. I am not diving in that. Too complicated. But I am totally sharpening my teeth for Watchmen and Sandman. And I am buying Switch and I have the Death Vigil.Switch is Witchblade universe, but alternate events. Somebody else is the bearer. The author posted quite a lot from the first issues (currently we are at #5 I think) on his DA, I could get you a link. Death Vigil is from the same author and it's totally awesome. He posted all 8 issues on his DA, but even having read them I went through the trouble of getting them shipped from another continent, cause I want to support the author (DV had good reception, but poor sales, unfortunately).

Add Preacher to that list. Am I the only one who sees the irony in Cosmere fans complaining about Marvel and DC being 'messy'?

At least Brandon never had Elend turn out to be working for TLR all along, and reveal it to Vin at the tail end of the second book for shock value.

Yeah that would come completely out of nowhere. Im all for shock value, I say things sometimes just to see how people will react, a lot of my favorite bands work on about half shock value, but this is substanceless, I do think, as an outsider that it is pretty funny (there is a swedish saying that goes something like "Schadenfreude is the only true happiness"), but it looks like a really bad twist.

That's putting it mildly. I just noticed your signature quote, by the way. Where's it from? It sounds kind of like a song….

It is a prose poem by Thomas Ligotti, but a friend of his made a sort of musical dramatic reading of it. I have a special plan for this world.
TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted May 29, 2016 Posted May 29, 2016 Buffy: Maybe this makes me a horrible person, but I'm finding Spike's bad breakup deal hilarious. And Willow's face when he started crying about Drusilla? I KNOW THAT FACE THAT FACE IS MY FACE WHEN STRANGERS TELL ME THEIR HORRIBLE SECRETS AND THEY DO THEY TELL ME THEIR SECRETS ALL THE TIME "I….could you just go back to the threats now?"
