Well, so long as no one tries something without letting me know first, I suppose it doesn't matter if they know his weakness. I wanted his weakness to be causing others what he perceives to be harm. If that doesn't work, maybe you could give me some advice as to what will. Thanks again, I need the help.
Blackhoof Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 Hmm a difficult weakness for an Epic to have. Perhaps impossible. I'm inclined to think that he would need a different weakness. Brandon said that Epics wouldn't have weaknesses that prevent them from using their powers, and a weakness like that basically prevents his Rending. What if his weakness is different, but through chance he was hit with it early in his Rending? His Rending stopped, he didn't become fully corrupt, and he has been grappling (and slowly failing) to stop the corruption ever since? He tries very hard to avoid using his powers, but he feels the need to every now and then. What if he thinks that using his powers in the dream-world "doesn't count" so he can satisfy the addiction and avoid turning evil?

Party balloons? Hurting a mother? Hurting a child? Maybe thieves/murderers in alleyways or in general? Perhaps romance or personal relationships? Aah, the conflict potentials are endless. Before I change his weakness though, can we try and think up a way his weakness might work? Maybe with a few slight alterations? thank you, I'm really excited to join the Salem thread, if it starts back up. What if his weakness is banana's? Voidus just creates a lot of Epics. As for the original weakness….it's hard to integrate into the setting, Epics being what they are. My advice would be to start with a traumatic event in his past, and then create the weakness around that. It's how most of us created new weaknesses or modified existing ones after Firefight, and knowing what I do about player weaknesses (which is to say, all of them ) I'd say it's created some plausible, playable weaknesses and compelling backstories. As for your other question—I don't know. I started with Fortuity, an Epic who managed to seriously creep me out in his brief canon appearance, and I thought of an Epic who'd be his opposite. Which gave me a bubbly, childlike female Epic who loves pink. Her powers just….sort of came to me, I guess? And the rest of it—things like her calling Calamity the "Great Noodly One"—were added in on the fly, for the most part. I thought up her backstory, working backward after Firefight, after I'd been writing her for a while.

As for threads to join in the meantime—if you're looking for something to do while fleshing out your own character, you could always do a few test posts with an abandoned character from the post Cog linked to. And if you get attached, adoption is encouraged.

I don't think I sold it right in the writing, but I'm hoping the last line of my post isn't... inappropriate? I don't think it is -I'd say it's pretty tame- but I'm hoping that the sentiment behind it isn't too dark or anything. What I'm kind of aiming for, I guess, is... well, you guys pointed out earlier that I don't do characters who are physical very much. (A consequance of my OCD, I think. The thought of touching things is a great big NOPE for me.) Lyla is in that same category is not really being a huggy, touchy-feely kind of person. It's part of why she hikes up her hoodie, or fiddles with her camera, instead of touching people. So, despite her copious amounts of LOUD ENTHUSIASM, she isn't a person whose immediate reaction to meeting a new person is to shake their hand. So, ordinarily, the amount of affection Shiny is showing her -and the way she's expressing it- would make her uncomfortable. In fact, it kind of is. But... But Shiny is an Epic. And she's an Epic who likes Lyla, whose approval Lyla wants. And she's a grown up. And she obviously knows more than Lyla does.And she's an Epic. And she's already positioned herself as Lyla's surrogate big sister.And she's an Epic. (That last point is an important, and subtle, underpinning feeding into all of Lyla's decisions. Throwing it out there in case it wasn't made clear) So... yeah. Lyla is not exactly comfortable with what's happening, but she's young enough, and emotionally invested enough, in what's happening that she's going to side with BIG SISTER SHINY over BORING NON-EPIC DOCTOR. Even if Games is voicing stuff closer to how she feels. Also, she has spectacular powers of rationalisation, so... yeah. She's convincing herself to go along with it, basically. I just do not have the interest to write in this anymore, and I'm going on my mission in a couple of months anyway. Which characters need finalization posts? Reader and Timeport can just become NPCs, and BusDriver is on a bus right now (literally and figuratively, pun intended, hahaha) and I'm not sure what to do at all with Mommy right now. Any others?

BusDriver could also just be NPC. Or maybe a stray missile blows up his bus and everyone on it Yeah, NPC is best for Timeport, unless someone wants to adopt him.

We don't have much precedent in the books or RP for copying Epics, so we don't know what happens when they die. Could be either. Although if the ability becomes permanent upon the victim's death, that incentivises him to just copy and murder everyEpic he can. I'm inclined to think, balance-wise, that the power would disappear.

Calamity spoilers: Spoiler Calamity Larcener is unique because when he assumes an Epic's powers, he keeps the power. There's no information on what happens when an assumer kills an Epic whose powers they stole, but the implication seems to be that the powers would go away naturally on their own at some point.
