KC Hammer Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 (edited) I always thought the cover art of Alloy of Law was a bit weird since it has Wayne holding a gun. However, maybe this isn't inconsistent, given the events at the end of Bands of Mourning where Wayne not only uses the shotgun but then uses his own brand of logic to say its barely a gun. I'm not saying that it was intentionally included 2 books ago, but I just think it is something to note. Edit: Modified title to put spoiler tag. Edited February 2, 2016 by KC Hammer 1
mattig89ch he/him Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 (edited) I thought that was wax and Steris on the cover Edited February 2, 2016 by mattig89ch
KC Hammer Posted February 2, 2016 Author Posted February 2, 2016 Steris is on the cover of BoM, but that is definitely Wax and Wayne on AoL. Unless there are multiple covers, I've only seen the one.
Shardbearer he/him Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 I think Brandon said something about the cover, something along the lines of he didn't have artistic control over the covers so we wasn't able to get the publisher to change it. Something like that anyway.

mattig89ch he/him Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 I think I'm looking at a different cover then the rest of you. Could you take a picture of the cover your seeing?

I heard that as well, but I just thought it was interesting that it is now explainable in canon as well as the real reason it happened. I think I'm looking at a different cover then the rest of you. Could you take a picture of the cover your seeing? Here you go.

I don't know if the artist knew the plot of the series when this art is made, but I think it really doesn't matter that much. Also, does Wax wear goggles?
mattig89ch he/him Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 lol, I need to read more carefully then
Shardbearer he/him Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 No, Wax doesn't wear goggles. That was also part of the post where Brandon was talking about Wayne with a gun.
Alfa he/him Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 Wax does wear goggles and BS was not happy about it (too steampunk-ish). Luckily there was one scene where Wax wears goggles in AoL and it's where he metalurgically analyses the Vanishers' guns. 1

Luckily there was one scene where Wax wears goggles in AoL and it's where he metalurgically analyses the Vanishers' guns. Well, in the annotations, his exact word was "amused" rather than annoyed. And then he went and made Southern airships, so he doesn't get to deny the essence of steampunk anymore.
Uilos he/him Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 (edited) The Cover Artist is the same guy that does the Dresden Files, which consistently depicts the main character in a cowboy hat in every cover despite Harry Dresden never owning one. It even gets mentioned in universe once or twice. It has taught us not to over think the covers. Covers Lie. Edited February 2, 2016 by Uilos 1

They had no control over what those pesky artists made them into. Edited February 2, 2016 by The Ninja Yodeler
Kaymyth she/her Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 Wouldn't that be mistpunk? Mistpunk. I like it. The Cover Artist is the same guy that does the Dresden Files, which consistently depicts the main character in a cowboy hat in every cover despite Harry Dresden never owning one. It even gets mentioned in universe once or twice. It has taught us not to over think the covers. Covers Lie. Jim Butcher has said that it's actually a running joke between him and the artist now. Every time Jim puts a mention into the book of how Harry "doesn't do hats" the hat on the cover gets a little bigger. 4
Senor Feesh Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 I actually prefer the Gollancz covers anyway, but that discussion had been had elsewhere on the site.
DeadFencer Posted February 7, 2016 Posted February 7, 2016 Petition to unofficially call this era "the mistpunk era" 2
Alfa he/him Posted February 7, 2016 Posted February 7, 2016 Petition to unofficially call this era "the mistpunk era" Agreed. What aboout Era 1? Cinder Era?
Senor Feesh Posted February 7, 2016 Posted February 7, 2016 Agreed. What aboout Era 1? Cinder Era? I think era 1 will always just be Final Empire.
natc Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 We could still just refer to the thousand years as a whole as either the Final Empire or the World of Ash.
Stormgate he/him Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 Am I the only one who thinks that Wayne's gun on AoL's cover is a shotgun? I'm just saying that the cover artist may have been smuggling atium, duralumin, and a special piece of Nicrosil...
