Voidus Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 Really like the character, it's a nice set of powers and I like the limitations on it.Salem does have a potential coup in the making but the leader doesn't really make much use of hitmen so it may not be too feasible. The Australia RP could definitely fit someone like that in but it's a little dead at the moment.
Voidus Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 So, does anyone have any comments, or shall I just give it another read-through and post it? Forgive me if I'm being presumptuous. I'm home sick today, and remembered that there was general consensus to encourage new players to adopt or make vanilla characters. I thought it might be a good idea to do the write-up that I proposed. Now that I think of it, Twi should probably post it, since she's GM and all. Alternatively, I could post it and she could pin it. I don't know. It's up to you, senior Oregoners! Maybe a post in the Rules & Etiquette thread?
TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted March 1, 2016 Author Posted March 1, 2016 Either one. I could post it there and give Cog credit, or I could open up the Rules and Etiquette thread long enough for him to post it.
Chandrian Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 Any good way to introduce my character to Salem? I don't want to make it awkward or throw the thread off topic.
Voidus Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 Any good way to introduce my character to Salem? I don't want to make it awkward or throw the thread off topic. It's still sort of finding its topic at the moment, I'd recommend talking to some of the other players to get some basic character arc ideas going, maybe Lifebringer was called there by a member of the government or something.

TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted March 1, 2016 Author Posted March 1, 2016 Is that the end of the interaction, then? Could be, doesn't have to be. If you think it could go on a little further, go for it.

Either way, I hope the bus scene gets resolved so that we can rejoin the action. *nudge* (Not that I have any right to complain, with my rate of posting. Who's next to post in that thing, though?)

Clockwork he/him Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 Not sure how well either of those will work, resurrecting others is explicitly non-canonical, Lightwards already existed by the time that was noticed but I don't know that adding a second necromancer is a good idea. Particularly one that is themselves undead since I'm not entirely sure that's something that's actually possible. Not many Epics have physically altered bodies and in particular becoming undead raises the problem that if he was dead he couldn't use his power to bring himself back. For the other Motivators are still tricky territory, but especially self-made Epic tech. It's borderline impossible to integrate into canon. 1. OK, it's not really resurrecting them. They can improvise on their orders, or find the best way to do something, and that is really the only way they can use their intelligence. I'm pretty certain true resurrection requires full mental capacities, the stopping of decay, and return of memories. 2. I am sorry, I did not know there was another necromancer. 3. I will edit so his power marks one to become undead when they are killed. Therefore, he died, but he had marked himself to become undead. 4. I will get rid of the first two. He can only see an epic's powers. Not their weaknesses. And he bought it, I guess.

The first one is an undead epic, the second is a genius epic hunter. Epic Name: Lich Real Name: Sceit (Pronounced Syeet- Last Name Unknown) Age: Unknown Primary Power: Can raise the dead and force them to do his will. These dead cannot think well, and will only obey orders. They can only improvise slightly. They are controlled by Lich’s mind, and have a little over the strength of a normal human. They do not feel pain or touch. He can control no more than 10 without out them freeing themselves and rebelling against him. He can keep an Undead alive until most of their bones are completely crushed and their flesh burned or destroyed. Their brain is seemingly not required for thought, and they can move without flesh. Originally he could control 12, but he was able to turn himself undead with normal mental capacity and freedom. Secondary Power: Can freeze water or water vapor into his hand, and can then manipulate it. He can also move it at high speeds. He can manipulate it in about a 20 ft. radius. Tertiary Power: Can mend bones and slow decay, but cannot repair flesh. This can only be used actively. Prime Invincibility: When in danger, thick walls of unnatural ice surround him. This ice melts at command, but is harder than almost all metals and can support several tons of pressure. Appearance: Usually cloaked in a large black cloak, underneath he is a skeleton with glowing blood-red eyes. Modus Operandi: Usually only kills when he is attacked or one of his undead are destroyed. If one is destroyed on purpose by someone else, he will hunt them without rest (literally. He does not require rest or sustainance.) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Name: Kyordu Jarnot Age: 23 “Powers”: Not really “powers” per say, but he is insanely intelligent. More so than his brother. He tends to move from one small town to the next, killing the weakest epics and then wiping the rest of them out. He makes his own technology; he has 3 pieces of Epic Tech: A suit that is almost impenetrable, a sniper rifle that seeks its target, and set of glasses that display Epic’s powers. He made these himself. Appearance: White, blue eyes, brown hair, constantly looks like he’s bored and doesn’t care about you or isn’t impressed. Modus Operandi: He tends to move from one small town to the next, killing the weakest epics and then wiping the rest of them out. Currently moving to Corvallis, as he heard his brother is there. Plans to kill him out of Revenge for the rest of their family. As Voidus and Twi already mentioned, you have a "Lightwards conflict/there really shouldn't be necromancers" problem for the first epic, and a [Calamity Spoilers] "Knighthawk is the the only known producer of motivators in the Americas" problem with the second. [Calamity Spoilers] On the motivators note, another justification I thought of besides cost for not allowing too many into Oregon is that Knighthawk is incredibly risk adverse. After watching his behavior towards the Reckoners in Calamity, I think he would be extremely hesitant to sell to anyone but the most established epics in Oregon, just because he would not want to get killed by a rival epic who wants to strike at their enemy. Throughout the books, motivator tech (aside from a few exceptions) are treated as exceedingly rare, so I think it would be more fun to save them as fun plot twists involving many existing characters than wasting the few we can justify having as power replacements for single characters. Bluefingers, on 29 Feb 2016 - 5:39 PM, said: I have a new epic which I'd like to add to whichever board is best suited for a new addition. Let me know of anything which should be added, and flaws or aspects hold be removed. Epic Name: Lifebringer Real Name: Jason Marsden Age:27 Appearance: Brown hair, Blue eyes, white, tall. Usually wearing a leather trench coat and gloves. Primary power: Can, for a brief period, turn living things into nonliving things in a solid or liquid state, and vice versa. The range of this ability is about 5 feet, and he usually must be within 1-2 feet of a person to interact with them or anything on them. Once an object is converted, though, only time will effect the change, not distance from him. The hardness or complexity of an object can greatly decrease the time an object can remained altered (i.e. diamond or muscle can only last for about 5 seconds but vines or rock for over a minute.) Secondary ability: Can exert simple control over plants, especially those of his creation. Sphere of influence is only about 15 feet on preexisting objects, but up to 150 on those he has created. The purpose of the razor wires he carries with him aRE to essentially project them at foes as vines, then stab or cut them after turning the vines back. Tertiary Power: Moderately enhanced cognitive and sensory abilities. His intelligence isn't greatly enchanced, but he can take in more at once, and process sensory indicators faster, leading to quicker reflexes. Prime invincibility: Can turn to diamond for several seconds at a time, but his powers are briefly nullified after, and he can't do so again for 3-5 minutes. Modus Operandi: Befriends a local warlord, and works his way up in the ranks as a hitman, only to turn on him later by convincing the warlord's goons to side with him. Personality: Ruthless and somewhat needlessly violent, but lawful. Believes assassination and the murder of innocents to be below him. Weapons of choice: Razor wires in back of coat, and spiked steel wires in sleeves (about 100 feet), shotgun and uzi for humans, and a wooden sword which he morphs to steel or diamond when fighting. Let me know what you think! Very interesting powerset. I'm curious to see how that gets used in combination. I could see a fight/extended conflict between him and Cornucopia as being interesting. Statistically they probably are, but I seem to vaguely remember waiting on a Taylor post. How far behind the times am I? I was going to post with Taylor, but then realized she doesn't have much to react to, since all she's seen is Frostfire whispering to Emma and Deathwish oggling her/saying they should help. I was hoping to have the "are they going to help her or not" thing resolved before posting, just to save myself some trouble. I can post with Taylor before Deathwish or Emma, but all she'll be doing is watching the whispering and waiting for a conclusive response.

Oh I hadn't even thought of that, I didn't want to suggest Corvallis because they're less in a coup situation and more just an outright invasion right now but maybe it could work, it would definitely be an interesting possibility.
Voidus Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 The latter seems like the easiest option. Here it is, for ease of copy-and-pasting: Hello, newcomers to the fun-filled and mildly mad Reckoners RPG! You've likely come here with the intent of creating your own totally radical Epic character. This is, of course, the most obvious way to participate in the Oregonverse. However, there are alternatives to this— alternatives that can be just as rewarding as creating one's own Epic character. The first alternative is adoption. Throughout the course of the RP, some players have come and gone, leaving abandoned characters and plotlines in their wake. By picking up where their former writers left off, you make a massive contribution to the RP by breathing new life into dead Epics, reweaving loose plot threads, and keeping WHiO as close to canon as possible. However, adoption doesn't just help the RP as a whole; it can be a boon to you. The characters left behind are hardly dull, and adopting Epics such as them would likely be a fun endeavor. Your options include: Candyflame, the vapid sugarmancer who can burn someone's face off with a bottle of syrup Event Horizon, the black hole slinging servant of the crime lord Quicksilver Chef, the one and only ravioli-controlling Epic Blackwave and the Tidebreaker's mighty crew, terrors of the Oregonian seas Ozymandias, the hyperactive sandal-wearing Epic with a bad habit of disintegrating everything around him …and many more! However, if you're dead set on making your own character, an Epic isn't the only option. The humans of the Oregonverse live interesting lives— lives that are certainly worth writing about. Your character could be: a citizen of Thoughttown, the "utopia" for the intelligent ruled over by the illusory Epic Altermind a vendor selling snacks to Epic gladiators before they enter Soulcaster's arena a homeless man on the streets of Portland, trying to scrape out a living in a city defined by endless turf wars a disgruntled servant of a pampered Corvallis Epic, motivated to kill her master due to Euphoria's absence a gun-toting, panda-shooting, grenade-slinging soldier of the Dalles City Guard …or whatever the sparks you want! The point is, there are other awesome ways to participate in this awesome collaborative storytelling experience. Before you race to the latest Question thread, dead-set on incorporating your new Epic into a game thread, go ahead and consider your other options. They're just as fun. Did you mean the former? Twi copy-pasting it? Or did you just post it so that you can move it over once the thread is unlocked?
Clockwork he/him Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 I've changed the profile. Lich doesn't technically resurrect anyone anymore. And Kyordu only has one epic tech, and it doesn't come from Oregon. In fact, he killed someone to get it. Is there any other feedback?

And Kyordu only has one epic tech, and it doesn't come from Oregon. In fact, he killed someone to get it. Is there any other feedback? Unless it's going to be a major plot point later on, could you nix all motivator-based tech? That origin is more plausible, but I'd rather not open the door to characters having Epic tech just because.
TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted March 1, 2016 Author Posted March 1, 2016 Ok, he's just skilled at killing epics. What's his kill count?
Clockwork he/him Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 37 Killed epics 6 High epics 31 Normal Epics ... All because he wanted to be able to kill his brother
TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted March 1, 2016 Author Posted March 1, 2016 37 Killed epics 6 High epics 31 Normal Epics ... All because he wanted to be able to kill his brother That's way too high. Keep it under 10, or else there's nothing special about killing Epics.
Voidus Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 That's way too high. Keep it under 10, or else there's nothing special about killing Epics. To be fair killing 30 Epics is not necessarily that big of an achievement, Remington could stroll through the MEE headquarters and do that in an afternoon. Killing 6 separate High Epics is more my concern.
Clockwork he/him Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 (edited) Normal Epics aren't hard to kill exept when their with High Epics. For a normal Epic, you just shoot it in the head. Like a normal person. Most people are just scared that a High Epic will come and kill them if they kill a normal Epic. But I'll lower in some. 4 High Epics 28 Normal Epics Edited March 1, 2016 by Chasmfiend
