Given that I'm about to join the Wasteland, I thought I might as well put the more noticable Epics(or at least their powers) up here to get some feedback.

Mephistopheles: Can force people to hold their promises to him, intending to break the promise causes great physical uncomfort up to the point when they actually break it, then his powers cause fatal wounds. For High Epics this damage will take an effect bypassing their PIs as best as possible. Individuals have to be aware that they are making a deal/promise but have to be neither willing nor aware of his exact interpretation of his wording or his powers.

He can also see through lies, this includes not only spoken deceit but also the ability to see through illusions and recognizing the true form of shapeshifters.

Deterrent: Assumer (for a period of about six hours)

Dowser (City wide, capable of telling Epics apart from each other)

Canceler (Limited by Large Dispersal Rule and internal powers but affects temporal ownership of powers like assuming and gifting. Causes loss of an assumed power every time it is used)

Danger sense (Can predict traps and accidents well in advance, attacks prompted by impulse, such as a brawl breaking out, are predicted only shortly in advance but very accurately)

Shadow Stalker: Can/hide turn into shadows and form blades out of a shadow-like substance. The use of these two powers is mutually exclusive.

Seven Heavens: Can create clouds that act as an insulator, keeping the climate within the clouds (or an area surrounded by his clouds) exactly in its current state, protecting it from outside influences.

Kinetic energy of objects within the clouds gets absorbed, making them capable of supporting moderate weights, safely stopping falls or catching most bullets.

Water that accumulates within the clouds is rejuvenated, so that once it falls as rain it is highly notorious. Not enough so to cause an unnatural growth of plants but it still has an noticeable positive effect.

Fallzone: Capable of creating fields of altered gravity, changing both the direction and intensity within it. Depending on size, distance from him, intensity and complexity, setting up a field takes different amounts of time. Simply redirecting gravity in a 5 meter radius is scarcely more than a second, setting up the initial field that lifted Hobart required weeks of unbroken conecentration.

Gorg: Can alter the weight of objects he touches, ranging from zero to double the actual weight. Things affected scale up their capability to sustain their own weight accordingly but do not grow more durable otherwise.

Shalashaska: Perfect ability to ricochet bullets as well as track and predict the path of projectiles.

Wow. Deterrent seems extraordinarily powerful.

Unless you have guns and she couldn't prepare an suitable array of powers beforehand but yeah, she's pretty much the heavy weight of the city.

Energy was walking down a Portland street. Up ahead Energy noticed a house and decided to have some fun.

Walking up to the steel door Energy sucked heat from it and converted it into kinetic energy allowing him to send the

door flying. As Energy walked in he was faced by a angry man with a shotgun.

"Please," Energy said, "spare me the antics and put the peashooter down."

"Please don't kill us," the man stammered as he backed away, "Please don't."

"Shoot me," Energy barked.

"What did you say?" the man replied.

"Are you deaf." Energy said as he stared at the man, "I said shoot me, you imbecile."

Energy watched as the man aimed and fired the gun at point blank range. They fell to the floor, sucked of kinetic

energy.

"This is a lesson. It is about a ant and a boot." Energy said as if speaking to a small child, "The ant tries to kill the boot

but the boot kills the ant Instead. It is a simple lesson of life."

Energy converted the kinetic energy into electricity and shot a powerful bolt of lightning at the man who was thrown

against the wall by the sheer force of the bolt.

"Remember that we are the boots and you are the ants," Energy said in a whisper, "And that we will crush you with

ease."

As Energy walked away from the house he sucked up light and converted it into sound to crush the house with a

concussive wave.

"Next destination, Astoria," Energy thought as he disappeared into the night.

This is my intro post for my character Energy! He is hoping to join the battle for Astoria!

Are you sure that steel doors are hot enough to go flying from it being converted into kinetic energy? Also, I'm not sure about the light-sound thing. Is there really so much energy in everyday light?

Should I try and get a Sentry post up later today? Kinda been busy with work and stuff, but... worried it seems like I'm jumping from one plot point (Haertsleeve) to another (Vandal) like a bad OC.

I'm on spring break now, so I would like to get a quick post together soon that might help wrap that up.

Depends what your temperature threshold is, if you can reduce it all the way to 0K then yes but that opens up a host of other problems. And no, not really sunlight doesn't produce enough energy to knock over houses.

Any chance we could get a profile?

EDIT: And actually the scene was at night which means there's almost no light anyway.

an energy conversion epic is a bit op dont you think. I cant come up with anyone more powerful in the astoria rp.

Also, storm of glass is a bit OP himslelf. He could pick up a hand of sand, charge it with kinetic energy and throw it with a huge effect. That kind of power is off the charts, although the lack of PI makes up for it somewhat.

If they don't have proper limits then yeah.

There's an utterly ridiculous damage potneitla there, especially with that convertion rate that just adds way more energy than was actually present (at least as shown in the post). Thing is, if it doesn't activate automatically, all that damage potential is just going to get him shoot in the back the moment he actually puts it to use for anything but serving the top dog High Epic of the location.

Any chance of getting an Epic with the power of knowing the weaknesses of Epics so we can make a plausible explanation for why Astoria's Epics haven't taken over the world as of Steelheart?

Posted

We also already have 2 energy conversion Epics present in the RP. I suppose that's not as big of an issue, but a repeat of our teleporter problem is still hardly desirable…

That's also a pretty good point, especially given that this power is even more powerful than teleportation is.

Most of them aren't too over the top powerful, no more so than Regalia, Steelheart or Obliteration. Mostly just the Metal, maybe Bioterror I suppose but he doesn't do well against inanimates so he's not exactly city-conquering.

the conversion rate shown is actually impossible, as there would never be that much energy present in a door

From 0K to room temperature there is.

who are the other energy epics i havnt read any but im still workimg through the rps. Also how long is a good wait between posts, i have a bladestorm ready.

Voidus, have I ever mentioned how awesome it is to have someone as knowledgable about science as you helping everyone out? It's fantastic. Seriously, thank you.  :D

Thanks, I do my best. Hopefully I avoid just annoying everyone with my nitpicking. :P

Converter in Corvallis and Frostfire in the Dalles I'm guessing.

As long as someone else posts in between whenever is good.

Assuming you're talking about Frostfire and Converter, Frostfire's powers deal with transfer only, not conversion, and even in that he's substantially more limited than both Converter and StrawMan's proposed Epic, so it's not really a problem yet. (To be honest, I'm kind of glad I only gave him transfer; it means I only ever have to deal with one set of equations when I'm checking a viability of a given usage, rather than jumping back and forth between two. :P)

Here are some possible fixes:

-can only convert energy on contact with object.

-powers have a range of 10 feet --> 1/2 foot (no massive shockwaves, no tiny lasers)

-can only convert one thing to another light --> sound --> heat --> kinetic energy --> electricity --> light

-energy increases in conversion

-can only suck in energy with his left hand and release energy with his right hand.

-limited to one form per energy (laser, shockwave, fireball, kinetic throw, lightning bolt.)

Yeah converting energies is really annoying. Heat in particular kind of sucks since you have to work out different materials and all kinds of other stuff.

How is doubling the energy a fix?

Also fireballs need chemistry to work, if it was just heat it would be a heat ball.

I'd really appreciate a profile, some things like lightning bolts for example are impossible with strictly energy conversion. If you just turn it into electricity then it's just going to act like electricity which means going straight down and probably frying the Epic themselves rather than their enemy.

Epic profile

Name: Energy

Power #1: controllable laser

Effects: Shoots laser and sucks electricity out of the surrounding area (20 feet).

Power #2: controllable concussive blast

Effects: launches controllable concussive blast and sucks light out of surrounding area.

Power #3: controllable fireball

Effects: shoots controllable fireball and sucks sound out of the surrounding area.

Power #4: gives object kinetic energy

Effects: grants object kinetic energy and sucks heat out of the surrounding area.

Power #5: controllable lightning bolt

Effects:shoots lightning bolt and sucks kinetic energy out of the surrounding area.

Range of powers: 20 feet

Time he can keep up a continuous use of power: 1 minute

Power cool down: 2 minutes

Sorry for the many changes to this guy.

I'll be honest, conversion epics are a headache i think we should not introduce any more.

Considering how op they considered Obliteration, and he could only do one energy type, full on converters should probably not even exist.

So maybe think of a different Epic powerset? Or limit it to one sort of energy?

Blackhoof, this epic no longer converts energy so please checkout this epic profile.

My bad sorry, you ninja posted me while I was writing XD

interesting concept- simply having five things he can do. Not sureeee about that, but it is far better.

No no changing things is good :)

@Edge: Love the Epics Edge! :D
