So.....I've never had a serious job before and I'm worried I'll look incompetent and they'll fire me?

But yes. Good point. Thanks.

They know your work history, don't worry about it! You'd get a much clearer warning if your job is in danger.

Are u on medication?

No - pretty sure it's a flu for which there is no medication (except the preventative flu shot, which I forgot to get orz)

@Deliiiiiightful - when in doubt, google first. If the internet can't help you, then they will be fine with you asking. Better to ask and make no mistakes, than not ask and make mistakes!

(If you have a manual or any other such work documentation, same thing).

In the meantime - hugs and a 'there there, it'll be alright. The awks will go away'

Head achey.  Hate glasses.  Brain used to contacts.

(This is a necessary precursor to my Friday appointment to see if I can get Lasik, but for the moment I suffer.)

and good luck! Lasik does sound like a good idea; I've been thinking about it for some time.
How serious is your prescription?

(In another note, I never really got used to contacts. I'm lucky enough that I only have one bad eye, the other is fine. So I can just take off my glasses and still function relatively normally.)

I don't remember how it translates to glasses prescriptions, but in my contact lenses I'm -6.5 in the left eye and -7.0 in the right.  Which definitely falls into the "quite near-sighted" category.  I'm not the absolute worst, but I have coke-bottle glasses.

There's a solid possibility that my corneas aren't thick enough for the best Lasik procedure, but there's another type that I would probably qualify for if I didn't make the cut on the good one.  It would just have a longer recovery time afterwards.

I also cannot guarantee that on surgery day I will not pretend to be a superspy that's been captured by the enemy being tortured into talking.

If you fail to pretend that, then I would be deeply disappointed in you.
The other one is PK... Something, right?

ASA-PRK; it's a bit more intense, but a viable option for people with thinner corneas.  And since I've worn contact lenses for over 20 years, it might have affected my corneas enough to not qualify for regular Lasik.  I should find out for sure on Friday.

The work week, for me, started on a Wednesday. Surely this would exempt me from the Monday curse, where the day is full of crem and annoyances.

No such luck.

Edit: WHY CAN I NOT BAN STICKY CANDY??? IT IS ALMOST PHYSICALLY PAINFUL FOR ME TO SIT AND LISTEN TO YOU SMACK YOUR LIPS REPEATEDLY, MEANING I CANNOT HELP YOU! JUST STAAAAHHHHHHP!!!!!

@TwiLyghtSansSparkles, bring it up with your superiors? To ban sticky candy I mean.

Unless they ban food altogether (... come to think of it, why is food allowed in library?) they can't just ban specific thing because one of their employees has a problem with it. Probably.

I know it's not like Twi decided "I don't like that thing" and it's hard but that's just the way it is. Could you do something to avoid such people?

Not really. If a patron asks me for help, the most I can do is try to pass them off to one of my coworkers, in which case I run the risk of them claiming I refused to serve them. And even then, I don't always have a coworker available to help.

I am going to sue my upstairs neighbors for all the sleep they deprived me of last night.

2:30 IN THE MORNING IS NOT A GOOD TIME TO PRETEND TO BE A TOMMYKNOCKER, YOU SADEAS-KISSED CREMHOLE!

Sleep deprivation is the worst.

Don't strain yourself to stay awake at work today, you'll just get a headache. Drink some apple juice, or green tea, or something naturally caffeinated. Keep busy, up on your feet, and don't think about how tired you are.

Try not to punch the printer-ignorant patrons or your coworkers.

I'll see if I have any green tea lurking in the cupboard somewhere.

And of course the sleep deprivation had to happen on the night before a day when SpongeBob is working. He'll be on the morning shift and I'll be on the evening shift, but still. Our paths will cross, and he has the supernatural ability to cram an entire hour's worth of irritation into just a minute or two.

Sleep deprivation is definitely not fun. Are you allowed to listen to music while on the job? That can help you drown out ol' Spongebob.

Though I still feel I should say this, complaining about SpongeBob like this feels too much like backbiting. I know he's annoying af but perhaps tone it down a little?

I could tell you stories about why SpongeBob should not even have a job there anymore. Trust me, if you met him, you would not consider it backbiting.

I consider speaking badly about anyone is backbiting, unless u've approached him about his problems of course, and it didn't turn out well. In that case, continue as you please, turn the tone up even.

I'm going to try very hard to keep this neutral, but....are you there with him every day? Do you work with him? Do you hear the things he says and does? Do you know more about the situation than the people involved in it?

No?

Then I don't think you are qualified to be the moral arbiter of this situation. Kindly keep your judgements to yourself.
