Wheres WalDo mark 2: The Threnody Worldhopper

Recommended Posts

Q:  For the Dangerous Women story, are you going to write anything again in that world?
A:  That world will show up again.  Silence probably won't, but the world itself, yes.  It's called Threnody, it is one of the Cosmere worlds.  There's not a Shard there but there are interesting things happening.  There's actually been a character in other books who's from Threnody.  It will eventually be clear who that is, but they have shown up in many previous Sanderson novels.

This may of been gone over before but i didnt see any immediately obvious threads.

Iyatil is suspected to be a worldhopper (potentially on Scadrial during the events of SoS, as well as being on Roshar)

Mraize has a selection of artefacts from different shard worlds including Nalthis and Taldain.

Khriss is from Darkside on Taldain, and has also been to First of the Sun (I put this to Brandon at a book signing and he would neither confirm or deny but was smiling as I gave my arguments and basically RAFO'd me)

Khriss, as author of the Ars Arcana may have also been to the other Shardworlds as well.

It's Nazh, the guy who annotates the maps.

He works for Khriss, who is the proposed author of the Ars Arcana

This may be the most speculator-y correct answer due to "they have shown up in many previous Sanderson novels". But besides Hoid, how many other worldhoppers have shown up in several different novels? Not many, if any, other than Hoid and Nazh.

The only other one I can think of, thats confirmed, is Zahel. But I wanna know more about Nazh. How does he know where Shallan made landfall? How does he find her sketchpad (IIRC)? How does he know what he knows?! I need to know these things!

There's one on the Coppermind:

  • Hoid
  • Galladon
  • Demoux
  • Nazh
  • Nightblood
  • Vasher
  • Blunt
  • Mraize
  • Iyatil
  • An unnamed Terriswoman who was on Nalthis
  • Several unnamed Kandra

There are others, but we've no confirmation on anyone else as far as I'm aware. The only other potential worldhopper in the books I can think of is Felt. There's no confirmation, however, or anything about him mentioned in any WoBs; all we have is the fact that the same name was used twice in two different series. (Stormlight and Mistborn.)

The terriswoman on Nalthis is Demoux's girlfriend, she is the nurse.

Lemex's nurse? Why do you think that? It's possible, but I just went to the section and didn't see any particular reason for her to be Terris. I could see the link between her fetching bandages for Demoux in Hero of Ages and working as a nurse in Warbreaker, but that's a bit of a tenuous connection on its own.

Confirmed, not suspected:

Relevent WOB:

Interview: Dec 6th, 2014Question (Paraphrased)
Is Mraize a worldhopper?
Brandon Sanderson (Paraphrased)

Yes, he's been to a few planets, highly supervised by his babsk.

Question (Paraphrased)

So what planet is she [iyatil] from?

Brandon Sanderson

Well, that's kind of a hard thing to say. She has three planets she's "from". For example, she's living now on Roshar, but then she's from a different planet, but that's not the planet that her people are from

.

The terriswoman on Nalthis is Demoux's girlfriend, she is the nurse.

Her name is Aslydin. Edit: To Clarify, Demoux's girlfriend is Aslydin, as Titan correctly pointed out we don't actually know she is the Nurse, just that she is a Terriswoman who is also a worldhopper.

We don't know if the Terriswoman on Nalthis is Aslydin. It's possible she is, since we know she's part of the 17th, but other than that it could be someone else. And currently, the nurse is the best guess as who the Terrisowoman actually is.

  KURKISTAN

Speaking of the Terriswoman, is she the nurse in Warbreaker?

BRANDON SANDERSON

< Pauses; gleefully says > RAAAAAAFO!

This is the best we have with regards to if the nurse is the Terriswoman. I personally take the "gleeful" pause with a grain of salt, because I find it misleading. But nonetheless, we just don't know right now.

You're still going just a little too far there IIRC. Aslydin is confirmed to be a member of the 17th Shard. It's not confirmed for sure that she's a worldhopper, although it's certainly heavily implied by the fact that Demoux is, and that we've yet to see 17th Shard members on their home planets in sequels.

Haha probably. I think it's worth remembering though that we're not sure that the 17th Shard's mission requires them all to be worldhoppers just yet, even though every one we've seen so far is. We could miss in-universe Sharders if we only look for worldhoppers.

I mean Frost.

I really hope Brandon throws some in-reference to Chaos in Frost's character if he is heavily involved with the in-universe 17th Shard. :D
