Will try to update before the wedding I go to today. Tonight I will start pairing, hopefully. So this is the last chance to get apps in!

Posted

@Allomancy (totally forgot to reply last night sorry) the oc part is an original character of yours! ^^

Starting pairing now. if you want to be included, register now!

just to let y'all know, i'm pairing based on who wants what, but no guarantees on anything. there's a lot of people wanting art but a lot of people offering writing, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Might be too late, but can still offer a present or two to shore up the list.

Username:  Talanic
Favorite Sanderson Novel: Stormlight Archive
Other fandoms:  Many.  Star Wars, Dresden Files, Iron Druid, Doctor Who, Avengers (movies more than comics).
Ocs (if any ***DESCRIBE appearance and personality***):  Hewn and Scheherazade.  Hewn is a living granite statue, about five foot two, bald, with opalescent eyes and a fine grain throughout; he's infinitely patient, but has a minor inferiority complex, as he's used to dealing with demigods.  Scheherazade is an ancient Persian queen who became an immortal adventuress with the power of faerie.  She's fierce and skilled, but retains a strong playful streak.
Type of gift you will provide:  Critique.  I will do my best to ask helpful questions and give the most useful impressions that I can manage for a work of the recipient's choice.
Type of gift you want to get:  I'm not picky.
If possible, can you provide a second gift?:  Sure.

Not too late, closing apps now and will add you to the list.

Question, though, how will gifting a critique work? I'd rather the gift be some sort of writing about your partener's character or something of the like.

Posted

Not sure how gifting a critique could work in secret, unfortunately.  I might not have thought that bit through well enough.

Unfortunately, I tend to do very poorly with writing prompts; I understand that it works well for other people, but writing with someone else's characters is just an unsettling concept for me.

Hm, there's art, or music. Oh, I have an idea for a thing to pair you with, but i can't tell you until I send them out because it would give away who you'd get.

Assignments sent out (lol watch my account be flagged for spam)

Please let me know if there's any issue!

My Secret Santa Music:

I've been pretty busy and distracted, so this is less than I hoped for, but here's the piece I wrote for this:

And because it felt like I didn't put enough effort into it, I'm also giving this piece which I've had sitting around, not quite sure if it was worth uploading. :P

Enjoy!

And this is for:

Venture Mistborn

The Destroyer is the name the public gives to your OC Ven, right?

What do you use to compose your music, Fanderson? I've been using Finale Notepad, which kinda sucks.

Might as well post my contribution now, since everyone else is. Not one of you can wait until Christmas Day, it seems. :P

This quasi-limerick series is for Stormgate, based on the incredible Epic concept he posted here!

There once was a man called Stormgate

Who seemed blessed and cursed by his fate

When Calamity rose

His human heart froze

And nothing was left but his hate.

For in Stormgate arose such a power

That soon all who knew him would cower

The winds and the rain

Were all part of his reign

The storm that was Stormgate did shower.

With order of storms and the breeze

He could vanquish his foes with ease

But in a fierce brawl

You'd find that not all

Of his tricks were the same as these.

From portals he placed in his sleeves

His cloak, and his pockets and greaves

Knives from dark places

Stabbed his foes' faces

And their blood would mix with the leaves.

If knives did not put on a show

To make enemies quake with woe

He'd draw out a spear

Shoot out sparks and sneer

And from the tip lightning would flow.

You might think these powers are all

He'd need to make all his foes fall.

But his quick force fields

Made wonderful shields

For blocking attacks like a wall.

How do you kill a man like he

A storm that blasts both land and sea?

Great many did try,

Great many did die,

Survivors could do not but flee.

But lonely's a monarch who's cruel

Calamity tricked him to rule.

Though his powers heaped

Every night he weeped

Calamity made him his fool.

Stormgate has been hailed as a god

For his powers many have awed.

But though he was strong

His spirit was wrong

The demigod was but a fraud.

Heavy's the head that weareth a crown

Stormgate found his world turned upside down.

He founded regimes

But wept at bad dreams

Though mighty his face wore a frown.

Bonus love from the Reckoners RPG: thanks to the magic of web tools, Stormgate now has an alternate pony self!

My original reply was a little long. If you want more info we can pm.

For beginning ideas I just write by hand, then for software I've used a bunch but mostly Musescore. That's just the notating portion. For sounds I use software from Soundsonline which take money. :P

That software (in the form of VST) can't use a sequencer, you'll need a DAW. I use Reaper only because LMMS (free) is buggy on windows with VST.

For these 2 songs I wrote, I skipped over the notating part and wrote it right in the DAW with my MIDI keyboard.

You can also find some OK free VST instruments and soundfonts online which I've used some. And if you really want I could probably put some current songs you have into better sounding instruments.
