Zathoth Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 In other news, I'm browsing the Draco in Leather Pants trope page for animated films. Apparently, Gaston and Doctor Facilier get that treatment. Gaston. .-. Im not sure what I am doing either. Well, no one whatevers like Gaston .-. 1
Delightful Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 (edited) Draco in Leather Pants???? Malfoy joined a rock band? Shipping by the last book for sure I got a sense that Bellatrix had a thing for Voldemort (except that she's married). Voldemort and Harry is just no, although we did sort of get Grindelwald/dumbledore before Grindelwald went bad. Edited December 10, 2015 by Delightful
TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 Draco in Leather Pants???? Malfoy joined a rock band? Although that would be an awesome plotline.... Draco in Learher Pants refers to any time the fandom (or certain segments of it) treat a villainous character more sympathetically than they're treated in canon, usually coming up with justifications for their behavior and excusing it by putting the responsibility for it on others. For example, the trope named comes from Cassandra Claire's notorious Draco Trilogy fanfics, where his jerkish behavior is blamed on and excused by an abusive childhood (that, it's worth noting, Rowling has claimed didn't happen). Sometimes the DILP trope is used to redeem a character the author likes, making their Heel-Face Turn more plausible, but usually it's just used to excuse said character's awful behavior without changing it. 1

It's not just fanfiction. I've also seen the trope used to describe antagonistic characters who are "revealed" to have actually been misunderstood good guys all along. Technically, Lord Ruler apologists might fall under the category of "Rashek in Leather Pants." 3

Technically, Lord Ruler apologists might fall under the category of "Rashek in Leather Pants." Canon examples definitely exist, though they're rarer than fandom examples. Although I tend toward the more unsympathetic portrayal of the Lord Ruler, I think he's more of a borderline case. His actions aren't glossed over at all, but I think Sazed's statements about him in HoA open more doors for his DILP treatment than anything Rashek did or said about himself. 1

Also, apparently my birthday is the same as Snape's. Edited December 10, 2015 by Edgedancer

Also, apparently my birthday is the same as Snape's. I...knew about the sexy Frollotimes segment of the Disney fandom, but I didn't know about the time travel. That's right. I'm not too upset about getting a birthday so close to Snape's.

TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 Just as you do now but a month older? And maybe like you are starting to spend too many candles on your birthday cake. I may have to resort to using decimal candles. Two candles represent 20, and 60% of a third candle represents 6. 2
Kobold King he/him Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 I may have to resort to using decimal candles. Two candles represent 20, and 60% of a third candle represents 6. I wonder how much the Lord Ruler spends on birthday candles. 3
TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 I wonder how much the Lord Ruler spends on birthday candles. Let's just say that the Great Luthadel Fire a few decades back was the last time Rashek actually LIT all of the candles on his birthday cake. 5
Kobold King he/him Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 There's a game on the BBC website called "Cyber Assault." It's a Risk-like strategy game where you fight against the Cybermen on the parallel Earth seen in Doctor Who. You're supposed to target the regions where the Cybermen have bases first, because when you destroy all their bases the game is over and you win whether the enemy still has territory under control or not. I decided to make an artistic statement by instead defeating the Cyberman territories, leaving the bases intact, and using the pretense of their ever-looming threat to conquer the world. (It's actually my headcanon that this is what happens after The Age of Steel. It fits with what we're told about the Cyberman situation in Doomsday, with the Cybermen defeated but sealed up in their factories. Also, Mickey Smith for World Dictator.) 1

Please can Mickey Smith run for President? Sure, he's not a natural US citizen, but we're apparently letting Trump run, so. 4
Edgedancer he/him Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 I may have to resort to using decimal candles. Two candles represent 20, and 60% of a third candle represents 6. Or two very large ones and six smaller ones. Or you could do it like my family does and instead of using candles just use Gummi Bears to spell out the gratulations to your new age. I wonder how much the Lord Ruler spends on birthday candles. He got his age through cheating and cheaters do not get cake. 4
