So, I figured I'd see how OP this Epic is. His name is Mimic, he can imitate any power observed, as long as the Epic that has the ability is within a one-kilometer radius. If he simply has the Epic's DNA(cryogenically frozen or not) it counts as the Epic being close. He can also neutralize all of an Epic's powers for 12 hours. No more or less than 12 hours.

There's a simple measurment for that, can your Epic walk into Newcago kill Steelheart and Nightwielder and from there proceed to just grow his set of powers? Because apparently he could do that, which makes the answer a very easy asolutely.

okay. so i was told to write a scene where antimatter uses his mad skilz

its a bit dodgy, but i was pressed for time.

spoiler for length and ACTION!

Antimatter spun to face his assailant, a burst of fusion energy ready to rage from his fingers. His new victim was someone he’d never seen before, he wore a black hooded duster and green disks of energy spun around each hand.

Antimatter fired an explosion towards the man, who flipped over it like some sort of acrobat. Antimatter ducked another energy disk, thrown by the other epic.

This is getting tiresome. He thought, sending another fusion blast from his hands. Then he activated his second power.

Immediately the world around him was lit up in yellow and red lined. Yellow for things that had happened, and red for things that he, in his heightened cognitive setting, could calculate would happen.

Antimatter slid underneath another energy disk and came up on both feet, firing a pair of blasts towards the epic. He saw the man’s next moves before they could happen, like a yellow silhouette outlining the movements before they could happen.

Everything was outlined. The cars around gave detailed description of their year, manufactioner, and their ability to be driven. The buildings became mapped. He suddenly was aware of what street he was on, which would be the best way to escape.

Or the best way to win.

There was a problem with that, though. He couldn’t guess everything. On average he had a seventy-three percent rate of successful foretelling. It was hardly a sure fire mean of success.

He also died twenty-seven percent of the time he used it. Seventy-three percent successful, twenty-seven percent deadly.

Antimatter moved, dodging a disk with deft ease. Projectiles were easy. They always had a certain path they would follow, that made it easier. The simpler the math was the more he could predict what was next.

People, on the other hand, where harder. Always acting illogically, it was harder for his enhanced mind to work with random, erratic, illogical behavior and for that reason he didn’t use it all that often.

But someone using repeating patterns of acrobatics and martial arts?

He was just asking for it.

The man spun, jumped in the air and landed, sending another disc towards Antimatter, who dodged them with a mere turn of his shoulders. He sent a blast that destroyed the ground where the acrobat had been moments before.

Before the man could even touch the car that had been the landing point of his latest flip, Antimatter had blown it out from underneath him. He landed with a flop.

Antimatter was on him in an instant, with his boot pressed firmly against his back.

                “Who are you?” Antimatter growled.

The man groaned. “Names Vengeance, you slontze.”

“Well, Vengeance, you are about to die.”

There was a click from behind him. The click a semi-automatic crowburner sidearm, .45 cal. One with the new electron compressed magazines designed for handguns.

“Nah,” Vengeance said,” just waiting for a buddy of mine.”

So his explosions are mostly shockwaves with a fairly limited area of effect.

And his intelligence doesn't actually raise his IQ but instead beams trivia in his head and does some really weird other stuff? Why does he get random knowledge about cars and the city layout beamed in his mind but nothing about the other Epic? Why were his opponent's future movements outlined in yellow at one point if red is supposed to be the prediction? If he's smarter than me, why didn't he even consider there being more than one guy?

Salem would be one of the safer choices for such a person and Soulcaster's generally on the side of not killing Vanillas for no reason but he also wouldn't tolerate killing Epics without consulting him since they're his main source of entertainment. Only problem other than that is that Salem already has an Epic-canceler. Although I suppose there could have been some rivalry between them since they're slightly different.

It may or may not have been deliberate.

Yeah, I think the bigger problem would be Mouldbreaker not wanting a vigilante in the city that causes more unrest than he actually settles.

I may or may not marvel at your genius.

his explosions explode outward away from his hand/foot until they reach their peak magnitude, then compress before firing a single shot of fusion blast. it happens so fast that its more of a after image one see's.

simple. he knows things that are known. if little is known about an epic, he'll know little about an epic. it is also a bit like a computer in the way that it will do what he subconsciously tells it to. if he has any inkling of an idea that he is being tricked, manipulated, distracted, or flirted with the super computer attached to his brain will run the numbers and give him the best results.

also, I did say I was pressed for time, so that part where he was outlined in yellow was an accident.

anything else? ;)

Known by whom? So in theory it is till possible to easily fool him when he is "super smart" as long as you're subtle about it?

Posted (edited)

if he's heard of it its in there, if he was in the same room as someone talking about it, its in there, if he heard it walking down the street, its in there. he doesnt have to be paying attention to get it stored, either.

more or less. as long as he's not in super smart mode you can be as ridiculous as you want as long as you don't tip him off.

also small things like creaking wood, clicking guns, and breathing where he can hear you will tip him off that you are there, his smarts will tell him whats going on.

btw, I'm thinking of putting him and harkness in astoria.

any last bits of advice before I send these poor fools to their repeated deaths?

Harkness was that immortal guy right? How exactly is the hypnossis supposed to work?

Any idea how you want to integrate them into the city?

Also, still this

This may seem like a weird question but why does he get more powerful? I mean we have a reason with Megan, namely that ripping a hole between dimensions that lets another version of her show up makes things wonky enough for her powers to have more influence on things but no one acts like it's normal for powers to increase that much (or at all) after a resurrection. So why does he get stronger?

Happy New Years everyone! From the Voidus household.

A bit early over here but happy new year for you as well Voidus and everyone!

I spend way too long waiting for Voidgaze's icon to load before I understood what it was.:P

See after the first few seconds I just clicked on it and then saw the picture title :P

The true nature of Voidgaze just surpasses the mind of normal people like you. :P

Theory: Voidgaze is an eldritch monster from before the dawn of time.

Status: Confirmed.

Just as promised, I've made little Summer post. I just wanted to write something and Argon is still walking... waiting for his welcoming party

harkness is a weak rioter to put it simply.

well, antimatter has a list of people he hates, because they, at one point, betrayed him and killed him so, he's on the hunt for that.

he actually might work for anybody with information (hint hint, wink wink, nudge nudge)

im also collaborating with Stormgate, so we'll see what comes of that.

also, Antimatter’s powers go up because of the process of his regeneration that I just came up with. When he comes back, he is literally made up of exotic particles that he can barely keep from exploding, so he has to drain a bit of the power before returning to normal.

Either that, or dieing activates his “glory” phase. Which do you think is best?

So he'd be on a trip to gather intel?

The being reborn from that matter stuff sounds better to me, given that it actually fits his theme. On the matter of that by the way. You gave sizes for the explosions he can cause at one point, how does that interact with him channeling them into a shockwave?

Posted

so, its a small fusion explosion hot enough to incinerate anything it touches, and powerful enough to do the same. it explodes outward from his hand, while he himself is not effected by it, when it reaches its peak it compresses back into his hand and fires a single shot of deadly energy. thats the theory of it any way.

I don't like the idea that Neutrality can cancel High Epic passive abilities, it is a very strong ability. I'd err on the side that cancelling passive abilities should be impossible, without that Epic's weakness.

Posted

So, defensive abilities are still (marginally) in effect? What about wound deflection? How would that work?

I'm still trying to figure this out.

Posted

Well, I'd say that if Neutrality for instance shot Deathwish, Deathwish would still heal but Neutrality would be unaffected. Like what happens if Deathwish hurts himself- the damage heals and is reflected back onto no-one.

I think Neutrality being completely immune to the primary and secondary affects of Epic powers ON HIM works, as opposed to reaching out and affecting other Epics. For instance, an Epic throwing a car at him is a tertiary affect, and would affect him. A strength Epic does not lose his strength when trying to pick Neutrality up, the strength just doesn't affect him as it would anyone else.

I think rephrasing his power to simply cancel the aspects of powers that impact him personally is easier to articulate and manage in-game.

Announcement!

As popular as the ATTD list is, it has come to my and Edgedancer's attention that we need a similar list for people to root for. People you want to see escape those on the ATTD list and go on to live happy lives.

It is with great pleasure (and some trepidation, since this is a dystopian world) that I announce the formation of the "And Then They Lived Happily Ever After" List. It's the same principle as the ATTD list, except you nominate characters you actually like.

Well I'd like to think the momentum twins would make it but given that I just spent half an hour brainstorming ways for Impact to kill people I don't think that's likely.  :(

I still nominate MV. Just n-not because I like her or anything.:P

Also, the obvious nominations of Autumn Glass, Baxter Game, and Voidgaze and Big Al.
