I'm trying to design a (somewhat) simple card game in which the players take the roles of the gods of a nascent world, choosing what species to create, endow with adaptations, and advance to a civilized intelligence. Each player would be dealt a hand of cards that allows them to affect the world in ways both tiny and profound, with the end goal being a species that either masters technology to the point of leaving the planet or a species of archmages capable of opening rifts in space-time and leaving their dimension.

As you might expect, this is an ambitious idea and I have no professional experience to draw from. I do, however, have a huge stack of blank index cards to play with, so I'm having fun brainstorming ideas.

Me: Imma write for half an hour straight!

My brain: No, you're gonna read a dozen BuzzFeed articles on regrettable fashion!

Me: Imma go finish the laundry now.

Bruce: No, you're gonna sit here and snuggle me until dinner.

No option to become a Warlord and conquer all your friends? Isn't that the point? :P

Well, I was considering two different ways to win:

  • Create an advanced super-civilization, in which case everyone who contributed to it shares the victory;
  • Successfully destroy the world, in which case the player is declared "Ruin" and wins the game.

I feel that could make for interesting gameplay possibilities.

Why not create an advanced super-civilization, then kill everyone who helped you then become 'Ruin' :P

See? The game is open to all play styles! :P

Truth. :P My favourite birthday so far has been spent holed up in a hotel room in Costa Rica reading WoR. Just find some books, some food, and claim the couch for 24 hours.

I don't know. I haven't read your trope yet :P That one just made me think of Kobold

I mean, on the one hand I'm not sure I like what that page says about me. On the other hand, the fact that I'm actually delighted that someone read a Trope and thought of me proves I'm exactly what the page says.

Like I said. I have very conflicted feelings about this. :P

So I had to do an assignment for my art class that was a photograph of items that represented things that were close to my heart. I know it's a pretty crappy picture, but oh well. It's more about explaining how and why each item is important to me. Apologies for the poor quality of the picture.

"That mark on your arm….do you, like I, serve the Dark Lord, He Who Must Not Be Named?"

"Uh, no, I serve the Lord of Poor Memory."

"Is he…a rival? Or an ally?"

"He's….he's me, dude. I keep forgetting my password."

I'm okay with this. ^_^

And I hate being so desperate for jobs. It means that when my mom shows me a job in Boise she thinks I should apply for, it means I have to actually consider it. <_<

AND NO, DAD, MAKING POINTEDLY SARCASTIC REMARKS ABOUT HOW "YOU TOLD HER SHE CAN LIVE CLOSE TO US AND NOT HAVE TO SEE US EVERY DAY, RIGHT?" DOES NOT MAKE ME WANT TO MOVE CLOSER TO YOU!

Lovely. I just got some unsolicited advice from Mom, about how I'm sabotaging myself by applying for jobs "thousands and thousands" of miles away from Spokane, because employers who don't pay moving expenses won't want to hire someone who is already so far away. Of course, by her own logic, I don't stand a good chance of getting a job in Oregon or Idaho either, meaning all her other points hinging on that point were moot.

Other points….well, it felt like she was just trying to get under my skin.

  • "I'm afraid you're going to get 2,000 miles away and not love it."
  • "It hurts my feelings that you're not even considering jobs close by."
  • "You've flat refused to take any advice from us, because you're so determined to do this your way. If you're not going to take our advice, find a job coach or go ask someone at the library or something.
  • "We'll miss you.

And look, I get it: I want to move far away, and you'll miss me. That's fine, it's understandable. But the fact you came into my room (without knocking—she's the parent, parents don't have to knock <_<) to basically tell me all about how I'm sabotaging my own chances and not doing things right makes me more wary of living close by, not less.

I just want a job already. :(

Can you do me?

Edit: and I forgot to say this before, but I'm not sure that trope quite fits Kobold. It does mostly, but it seems a little too mean to be him, because he's a really nice guy.

I haven't found yours yet. However, once I find it I will report back.
