Mashadar Mistborn he/him Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 (edited) My brother and I watching the Closing Time episode of Doctor Who: "So, what do you think happens to Stormageddon when he's a grown up?" "Well if he calls himself the Dark Lord of All when he's a baby, he'll probably a pretty melodramatic guy." "All that time with the Doctor would make him pretty smart. Pretty energetic too." "And if the name 'Stormageddon' is anything to go by he's probably an End Times nut." "..." "..." "...Oh Almighty." "He's Obliteration, isn't he?" I may or may not have started cursing by Stormageddon, Dark Lord of All after reading the Stormlight Archive. Edited December 2, 2015 by Ookla the Mythical 2

Elbereth she/her Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 I have not. I think I tried, but that was more because I couldn't sleep. I would recommend at least reading the beginning (Ainundale and Valaquenta, basically the first two chapters) and then a few chapters of the Silmarillion, at the beginning (ch.1-3 in particular, up until Orome comes among the Quendi). Then Chapter 8 and chapter 11 would also be good. Those are the basic chapters involving the gods. If you don't want to read the ones in between (which are more about the elves), just ask me and I can summarize them. Those should be good enough, though you might also be interested in Earendil, way in chapter 24.
Allomancy she/her Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 The world is made of carrots. And radioactive manatees float around in the sky. Rabbits and pugs overpopulated the earth, anything that you imagine happens. Pugs fly here, snore, and purr. Potatoes grow in minefields. And... Squirrel! Sorry, I think I was at the part about purple exploding fairy shoes. Yes? No? Oh, the part about the .... I'll just start off at a random part. One bright day in the middle of the night, two dead boys got up to fight. Back to back they faced each other, drew their swords and shot each other. The deaf police man heard the noise, and then he shot those two dead boys. If you don't believe me, just ask the blind man. He saw it all through the knot hole in the chain link fence. The Honor Spren she/her Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 (edited) If you need a prompt, you can do something like my aunt: she writes letters to all her nieces and nephews for a writing warmup. The letters are from a dragon named Flamber. He likes brownies and making song parodies about major events. Your family sounds so cool. All mine does is quote stuff at each other. Mainly Doctor Suess.(Our favorite one is, "except when you don't, because sometimes you won't." ) Edited December 2, 2015 by Ookla the Articulate
ThirdGen Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 "Well, Prince, so Genoa and Lucca are now just family estates of the Buonapartes. But I warn you, if you don't tell me that this means war, if you still try to defend the infamies and horrors perpetrated by that Antichrist- I really believe he is Antichrist- I will have nothing more to do with you and you are no longer my friend, no longer my 'faithful slave,' as you call yourself! But how do you do? I see I have frightened you- sit down and tell me all the news." It was in July, 1805, and the speaker was the well-known Anna Pavlovna Scherer, maid of honor and favorite of the Empress Marya Fedorovna. With these words she greeted Prince Vasili Kuragin, a man of high rank and importance, who was the first to arrive at her reception. Anna Pavlovna had had a cough for some days. She was, as she said, suffering from la grippe; grippe being then a new word in St. Petersburg, used only by the elite.

Kestrel she/her Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 Doing pre-cal late at night is the worst because at about this time the numbers all start to look like fives. 2
