TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 And dumb, on average Mulan and Tiana are smart by any standard (Mulan for her quick thinking and innovative strategy skills, Tiana for having both the determination and knowledge needed to start her own business with the deck stacked against her) and although princesses like Aurora and Snow White come across as flat, airheaded characters to us now, in their time they were unique for being developed female leads whose movies were told primarily from their perspectives, rather than those of the male leads. 2

Yeah well, I was thinking mostly of Aurora who does nothing but sleeping What was it my daughter once told me? Princesses sit and are pretty while princes go and slay dragons? Something along those lines............ I mean, I can't in all seriousness endorse this line of thought. I had to tell her princesses can slay dragons if they want to.

I had to tell her princesses can slay dragons if they want to. Show her Princess and the Frog. Tiana's entire goal is to own a restaurant (which, as an African-American woman in 1920s New Orleans, was a pretty lofty goal, what with the deck stacked against her in regards to both racism and sexism, not to mention the fact she's working as a waitress to make ends meet) and falling in love with her prince is a pleasant surprise. She's the one who breaks the curse, she's the one who fights against it the hardest, and her happy ending comes when she and her prince open the restaurant of her dreams. Plus, her dresses are gorgeous, which should help you sell it. 1

I had to tell her princesses can slay dragons if they want to. I mean, we could make new fairy tales about badchull princesses, but I vote instead we just make all the dragons in the myths female. Everyone thinks the dragons are cooler than knights or princes anyway. Therefore, female dragons are the ultimate triumph of fantasy feminism. 2

+Slowswift Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 Now, see, if I had access to a mistcoat, Halloween wouldn't've been the only time I wore it. But I don't have a mistcoat, so I settled for wearing my Szeth shirt to the concert.
Delightful Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 (edited) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g00kEcGh4j8 And it has an amazing villain song. Dem knees . I was thinking princesses more of the self-rescuing variety. Jasnah. Siri. Vivenna. Anna. Eowyn. Mulan. The Goose Girl. Padme Amidala. Merida. Sailor Moon. Princess Leia. Queen Thayet. Gamora if she qualifies as a princess. What's-her-name from the Cry of the Icemark (I think that's what it was called?) (Although tbh it's taken me an embarrassing amount of time to compile this list. There are also a zillion others who stories I vaguely remember but not enough to remember their names). Edit: and also a whole group of others I didn't consciously realise aren't princesses. Like, all of Tamora Pierce's characters, vin, shallan, black widow, all the Agents of Shield women, Wonder Woman, katniss everdeen, gogo and honey lemon, hermione, ginny, mrs weasley .......... So many familiar princess names! The goose girl was Ani, I think. THAYET! Thayet is awesome. You're thinking of Thirrin Freer Strong-in-the-Arm Lindenshield, Wildcat of the North. She is also amazing. EDIT: I went as Galadriel, by the way. Edited November 3, 2015 by Elbereth (Limelleth) 1

Why didn't I remember that! Also Soraya from the farasala trilogy, who's name I've now remembered, and non princess but ....nita and dairi? From So You Want To Be A Wizard. Elbereth she/her Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 To be fair, I missed the Freer bit until I looked it up. And you got "Cry of the Icemark" right! It's been a while since I read those books, but I really liked them. Each one was very different from each other. [grammar isn't working for me tonight]
Delightful Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 Where there more than two? I only remember two.
Elbereth she/her Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 There were three. The first one, and then the one about her son (Charles?) and South America, and then the one about her daughter (more importantly, Oskan's daughter) and Oskan's evil grandfather. That one was a bit weird.
Guest Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 It was Halloween?Your "I live under a rock" posts always make me laugh. Made my day.
Delightful Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 But that's because princesses are *awesome*. Can whoever down voted this please PM me why?
The Honor Spren she/her Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 Can whoever down voted this please PM me why?Now I'm fretting that it might have been me, because I use mobile version, and mobile is lame.

Ookla the Absent Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 I was a modern day Hamlet. I mean, I've got a random skull lying around, so why not? 4
