DreamEternal Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 (edited) I would probably choose gold/electrum for my allomantic power, since they are the only ones who sound somewhat mystical( Brandon could really make his magic more magical at times) and either zinc(I tend to have problems with not enough time to think when I need it) or duraluminum(I can choose when people pay attention to me) for my feruchemical ability. EDIT: Feruchemical chromium: I think it only affects what you do, like a stange instinct that makes you more likely to make the right choice when random events are concerned. Edited October 22, 2015 by CognitivePulsePattern
Warpsmith Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 I actually think that Feruchemical Chromium is more like discribed in Moash's post as opposed as a strange instinct or anything like that: The thing is Spiritual, so I think what you store when you use it is, for lack of better term, the universe's "Goodwill" towards you the way you store your connection to others when you store in Duralumin or your connection to your true self when you store Aluminium. This would mean that when you actually Tap you Chromnium mind you get more "goodwill"and everything basically bends over to make you succeed if you have enough of it. However the way I see it the effect are random and their consequences cannot be predicted, so true it might protect and favor YOU but not necessarily your friends or things you care about around you. IE a Bomb explodes near you, but you happen to trip and fall behind something tough enough to completly shield you from the blast, however your friends and infant son that happened to be with you get creamed, plus since you do not know exactly how you will be favored you cannot make long time plans, hence why I think planning via Zinc Powered intellect to be better.
Voidus Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 So basically you could essentially sap anyone because somehow your luck would allow it. A coinshot is flying up in the sky, lands on a building, looks down on you. Suddenly a hurricane whips up and tosses him to the ground, he then pulls out two guns and fires away, but somehow as you calmly walk towards him, about to wipe his metals from him, his bullets keep missing, and his guns get jammed. Would double chromium be that stupidly overpowered? Well it could only influence things that are actually possible, something like that happening has got to be trillions t one odds so you'd need to have some insane compounding going on to do anything like that. Bullets coincidentally missing sounds likely, maybe the floor the coinshot is standing on collapses but things like hurricanes is stretching it a bit far I'd think.
natc Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 Realistically you only need to be lucky enough to make some butterfly flap somewhere on the planet and boom, hurricane . . . It was a joke. 1
Oudeis he/him Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 Would double chromium be that stupidly overpowered? This is what everyone assumes... before I saw Bleeder and how OP steelrunning is, I would have said that Mr. Sanderson doesn't make powers this powerful, but I suppose it's possible. I still suspect it's not actually as OP as people assume. For my own twinborn... well, as ever, it depends on the context. Is it in the real world? Am I the only allomancer in the real world? Is it our world but metalborn are a thing? Is it the Final Empire? Is it Elendel? My answer changes depending on the circumstances. I'm fascinated with metamagic so my instinct is always for allomantic bronze. Cosmerically the potential applications are fascinating. Feruchemically... I wonder this a lot, but I think I finally settled on gold. The idea that I can spend a few months, maybe even a year sick, but then never need glasses again for the rest of my life... I really hate that I have to wear glasses. Though several others are tempting, less for power-gaming life and more for incredible, everyday utility. Never being too hot or too cold? Eating all the mcdonald's I want and staying slim? Being able to put embarrasing memories in a penny and chuck them in a fountain? Sign me up. 2
StormingTexan he/him Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 I would go the gold/gold route for the compounding benefit even though the allomantic power seems pretty lame to me.
Landis963 he/him Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 (edited) Assuming I'm not lucky enough to compound any metal: Coinshot (Because yes, I would love to have the ability to fly, thanks very much) and either Bronze or Zinc. Zinc because mental speed is exactly the sort of thing that comes in handy everywhere, Bronze because it's 2 AM in the morning where I am and I need to get to sleeeeeeeeep. EDIT: Brass stores heat, which might be useful in winter, or when I need to handle hot things, Bronze is the anti-insomniac Ferring power. (And it's 12:30 AM, again, argggh) Edited October 29, 2015 by Landis963
eltari Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 Coinshot Bloodmaker.I want to fly and then I want to heal when I fly badly. It's about as close to being Superman as you can get within the rules. 1
Rage_Fortress he/him Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 I went about this topic in a much different way. I thought about pre-existing superheros/super powers out there that I think are really super cool. I went for one of my favorites Lelouch Lamperouge from the anime Code Geass who is super smart and has the ability to force others to his will. After picking this character whose power I think would be the most fun to have. I came up with a compound that sounds super familiar to anyone who's been reading this board before me...that's right it's Double Zinc!!!! 1
Shardbearer he/him Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 I don't know, that infinite Health from double Gold sounds really nice. But then again I might not really want to be basically immortal. Could you die of old age while tapping compounded Health? Identity, Connection, Mental Speed, and Fortune could all be really good properties to compound as well. Oh, and the things I could do with compounded Determination. No more procrastinating. 1
DeadFencer Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 (edited) Although thinking about it, are you able to store and use more than one feruchemic attribute at a time? If he removed the metalminds keeping him immortal, he's obviously dead. He would then never be able to try other stuff because removing the metalminds would destroy him. Do you know if you can use more than one set of metalminds at once? You can. At one point in WoA Sazed fills several metalminds at once in preparation for battle. Edited October 27, 2015 by LetoIX
Edgedancer he/him Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 Could you die of old age while tapping compounded Health? Yes, age is very much a different attribute in Feruchemy.
nikomis he/him Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 (edited) Lurchers never get enough love, I'd be an Iron Compounder. Would probably end up being one of the few folks on the planet that armored up, though. Edited October 27, 2015 by nikomis
natc Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 Why would you want to be able to become the ultimate anchor for ironpulling massive objects into your face? 1
MrMistborn he/him Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 Probably Steel compunding. Super speedy steelpushing!
Jo and the Bush all/any Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 Leaving the Zinc Train for Double-Bronze. My main goal is to increase my relative life time, and sleep cuts into that. Having double Zinc would give you more thought time yes, but that doesn't allow you to do more Physical things. Same with Steel. Physical speed, but it's be harder to do the things I want to do by simply speeding up. So infinite wakefulness allows me to be actively pursuing my interests 27/7. Plus I can detect other metalborn. 2

Talk about a dangerous one to stop, though - if you lost your metalminds for any reason other than "disintegration by Allomantic burn" you'd be in a coma for weeks.
11thorderknight Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 I would choose Allomantic pewter and Feruchemical gold. Burning pewter would allow me to store up much more health than a regular person would, without feeling the ill effects of being sick, since pewter makes you stronger/healthier. Gives most of the benefits of compounding gold, plus the ability to be stronger and faster. 2

I'm not actually sure about that. It would still count as if I had slept the proper amount of time, so I would just revert back to normal I think.

Yeah I'd think so, just like lifting massive weights when tapping pewter doesn't cause your muscles to split apart once you stop tapping.

But I wonder if this would really work because eventually when you stop burning pewter you feel the effects you "masked" by burning it right? So you store health and burn pewter to temporarily alleviate the symptoms of storing health but once you eventually stop burning it hits you like a brick wall I would think.

Yeah pretty much, but you only really have to stop while you're sleeping.
StormingTexan he/him Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 Ah good point I guess just take some NyQuil every night.
nikomis he/him Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 Why would you want to be able to become the ultimate anchor for ironpulling massive objects into your face? Technically, into my guts. Center of mass rules! But remember, if the object is heavier than you, you fly to it. So, really, it'd be great for dislodging heavy things by briefly being heavier and pulling, and then dropping the pull. So much tower-toppling! They're a useful pair together, compounding just gives you more punch-power when you're stomping through someone's floors.
