Worldhopper!Celestia?

TLR as Celestia's evil twin of which she and Luna never speak?

Equestria most likely part of the Cosmere?

All confirmed.

Now I'm really wondering what Hoid's pony form would look like.

There's only one way to find out...

Hmm...

Wow... I really should really give Harry Potter another read...

Definitely. Books are always better when you understand the horrifying subtext beneath it all.

Watching Avatar: The Last Airbender for the umpteenth time, I have decided that Jet is the person that Kelsier would have become without a crew to act as his conscience. They are both utterly opposed to one group of people, they could both smile while they kill and they are both charismatic, egocentric leaders with sociopathic tendencies exacerbated by losing someone to their enemy.

Also, happy birthday theShallan. :D

Watched A Wrinkle in Time with the family just now.

ME: Hold on a minute. If Mrs. Who and Mrs. Whatsit and Mrs. Which are so ancient and wise, can't they come up with a better rescue plan than dropping three children on an alien planet and expecting them to retrieve a prisoner from the interior of an intensely guarded facility? Heck, if their dad's been gone for a year already surely there isn't too much of a rush. Couldn't they have maybe spent a few months educating the kids about the planet Camazotz before throwing them there, so, you know, they won't be identified, arrested, and manipulated by the satanic bureaucrat in charge of the planet within an hour of their arrival? Or maybe--

EVERYONE ELSE: Can we just watch the movie without the critic's commentary?

I feel you. My parents and sister adore that book, but I just found it meh at best. I think there's an age limit for how enjoyable you're able to find it--they all read it as children, whereas I read it as a young adult.

Wrinkle in Time is a movie? I've read the book several times and I didn't know that. Also, I know that feeling. My goodness, do I know that feeling. Edited by Mashadar Mistborn

Happy birthday TheShallan! :D

In line with the earlier HP discussion...

One of the things I like playing around with in my writing is how magic would both advance and stunt society, and I think I can see that in the Potterverse. They have floo powder and apparition, so why would they need things like cars and airplanes? They have instantaneous communication, so why send letters? They wouldn't need computers- in fact, they don't seem to use electricity at all. They don't go to elementary/primary school with muggle children. All of these lead to a very strong sense of isolation. Without the internet or school before age eleven, their experiences interacting with people and learning to play nice and be tolerant of others is extremely limited. Prejudice can live long and prosper in that kind of environment. Therefore, we get people like the Malfoys and the Blacks. Even the nicest witches and wizards seem to think of muggle society as primitive and almost laughable in its ignorance. While they're busy scoffing, the wizarding world is going nowhere.

Haven't read the book, which is unusual for me. :P And don't get me wrong--I like the movie. I make fun of the terrible CGI, often shoddy acting, and tesseract-sized plot holes, but I find watching the movie a legitimately entertaining experience.

It's just that I find it most enjoyable when I'm vocally poking fun at it, while my family politely prefers that I keep my trap shut. :P

There are plenty of fanfictions that explore how HP magic could be combined with muggle sciences to useful (and sometimes terrifying effect.) For instance, in one fanfic Voldemort makes the plaque on the Voyager probe into one of his Horcruxes, so part of his soul can be rocketed out of the solar system and out of the reach of would-be Horcrux hunters.

Personally, I've always preferred A Wind in the Door and A Swiftly Tilting Planet to A Wrinkle in Time. They tend to be a little more mature. And A Wind in the Door has Echthroi, which are just cool.

To be perfectly honest with you, when it comes to Harry Potter, I prefer smaller headcanons and AUs to huge theories. Things like how Sirius ate James' homework, and how McGonagall has a pet cat she lets wander Hogwarts to spook her colleagues into staying on task.

I like the sad headcanons, like "Draco Malfoy didn't want to participate in Lupin's boggart class not because he thought it was stupid, but because he knew the boggart would take the shape of his father."

I read one fabulous fanfic showing the Slytherins in Harry's year and what forms their boggarts took. Basically, those boggarts made the Gryffindors' fears look pathetically silly.

I wouldn't mind a link to that fiction. I like sobbing my eyes out over characters I used to despise.

The only two I remember right off were Draco's (Voldemort) and Pansy's (a fat woman in a wedding dress; teachers remarked days later that she wasn't eating). I think it was called "My Slytherins." It's narrated by Lupin, so there's another reason to read it.
