Blackhoof Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 All the scariest animals are active during the day, so Australians are mostly active at night Drop bears can't see you in the dark. 2
MrMistborn he/him Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 We have normal sleep/wake cycles, its just time zone difference
Voidus Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 All the scariest animals are active during the day, so Australians are mostly active at night Drop bears can't see you in the dark. Well not the normal ones anyway.
Edgedancer he/him Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 Well not the normal ones anyway. Now, panda drop bears on the other hand.
Voidus Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 So Twi/anyone else who wants to chip in, any thoughts on another RP set in maybe a different country or something with a set time ratio to RL?(I may have already populated all of Australia with Epics ) 1
MrMistborn he/him Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 I know I would love it, and already take first dibs on Perth
MrMistborn he/him Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 Also, question. Who, if anyone, keeps track of the copious amounts of ponies created here in this corner of the shard? IS there an archive? Where can i find it?
Voidus Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 Also, question. Who, if anyone, keeps track of the copious amounts of ponies created here in this corner of the shard? IS there an archive? Where can i find it? Kobold locks them all up in his vault. I don't know if there's a collection with them all anywhere else though. 1
Blackhoof Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 Comatose and Corvallis players, do you think we are good to move the time to Mestiv's characters timeline? So like 11 or so? For most characters, at least.
Edgedancer he/him Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 Kobold locks them all up in his vault. I don't know if there's a collection with them all anywhere else though. The content of the vault is in full Display in the Easter egg thread.
Curious Anamaximder he/him Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 Very nice intro post, Mr.Mistborn!
MrMistborn he/him Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 Very nice intro post, Mr.Mistborn! Regarding Morpheus in Salem? Thanks so much! You can see his Epic profile in the Epics of Oregon thread, and I am SUPER excited to see some epic scenes play out between him and Soulcaster, whose powers are quite similar
Voidus Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 I am definitely hoping for some Matrix style fights between them in the Astral plane. 2
Blackhoof Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 An interesting thing could be that Morpheus came to Salem because he heard about Soulcaster, and intends to mess up the thing he has going by invading the dreamstate. So during one of the arena matches for instance, Morpheus creates a bunch of nightmare monsters that attack the contestants and spectators, and Soulcaster has to wrestle mentally to take back control of the dream. Cause if Morpheus can create and project dreams, and everyone is sleeping and dreaming during arena matches, then it stands to reason he can interject into them. 1
MrMistborn he/him Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 MATRIX FIGHTS- HELL YEAH! DREAM BATTLES- HELL YEAH! Hmm Blackhoof you make an interesting point about Morpheus's reasoning for coming to Salem NIGHTMARE MONSTERS- HELL YEAH! Without the silliness those are great ideas! Thanks! I'll put them to use whenever i can 1
Voidus Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 An interesting thing could be that Morpheus came to Salem because he heard about Soulcaster, and intends to mess up the thing he has going by invading the dreamstate. Cause if Morpheus can create and project dreams, and everyone is sleeping and dreaming during arena matches, then it stands to reason he can interject into them. This was my reasoning too, plus he has the ability to wake himself up, which means he might even be able to break out if Soulcaster tried to trap him in the Astral plane. Some very interesting interactions to be had. Either that or they team up and combine their abilities to cause everyone in Oregon to have Nightmares so severe that everyone simultaneously agrees to just burn the entire state to the ground to get rid of them. Oh and on the Corvallis note I'm ready to time skip if everyone else is so take that as one vote for skipping.
MrMistborn he/him Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 Morphcaster will either be the most horrifyingly beautiful ship of the century, or the greatest rivalry ever. And i am pumped for it 1
Blaze1616 he/him Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 Comatose and Corvallis players, do you think we are good to move the time to Mestiv's characters timeline? So like 11 or so? For most characters, at least. Mestiv's characters are sitting in limbo currently around the 1-2 pm time frame. I'm waiting on a Chase post from Winter so that I can make a post with hopefully all three sisters, which will include the bubble drop. The current time in the city is 11 am or shortly after, so with the bubble drop going from approximately 11:30 to 12 or 12:30 (we never really discussed the details), my characters will be caught up. 1
MrMistborn he/him Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 (edited) Can I have a basic rundown of Corvallis in case Morpheus ever gets boredof Salem? Edited October 29, 2015 by MrMistborn
Voidus Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 And now because the planets have aligned and I'm wearing the correct socks it's time for another of Voidus' segments:A day in the life of 'The future stinks' Hello dear reader, I hope you're doing well in this dreary post-apocalyptic wasteland we're all still trying to survive in.I'm an Epic, specifically I'm a precog. Now you might be wondering why a precog bothers to keep a journal let alone one which so politely a addresses its reader, after all most precogs are considered to be High Epics and have an attitude to match.Well you see, I'm a bit different. I didn't get the ability to see the distant future, or even the near future, or heck even something marginally useful like being able to sense danger. No, I got the ability to smell the future. And let me tell you, the future stinks. Most days this ability is of very little use, sometimes it's of a massive annoyance, imagine being able to smell the sweat of a crowd of construction workers returning home at the end of a day for the entire sparking day. Occasionally I can glean a little bit of useful information although this is almost always heavily reliant on my speculation.Nevertheless, my name is TheFutureStinks and this was my day.I woke up in my little three bedroom apartment and set the coffee to brewing, filling the time by holding my hands up to my nose and savouring the smell of perfectly roasted beans. One good thing about this ability is that since I've gotten it I've never burned a single thing, that's one smell that's very easy to realize the reason for.So I settled into my worn lounge chair and sipped my perfectly brewed coffee while I got through a few pages of the latest book I'd been reading. It was good, not great, not like the old masters. Nowadays very little literature was published, what was published was mostly terrible, it was mostly either sickeningly sweet sappy stories marketed towards people who wanted to ignore reality or a grim dreary affair that seemed even worse than the world already was somehow. I mean there was this one book that someone wrote with this Epic called Nightdog and it was just horrible, even Epics couldn't be that bad could they?It took me a few moments to remember that of course I was an Epic, my power wasn't particularly flashy, very few people knew it and so most of the time I just thought of myself as another normal human with something of a special problem.Ah well, no time for such musings.I got up and got dressed before heading down to the bakery where I worked, Hank, the owner of the bakery was one of the few people who knew of my abilities and was kind enough to give me a job where fresh bread was basically all I could smell. Well he gave me the job once he was sure I wasn't going to murder everyone or mix arsenic in with the dough anyway, he's a nice guy but he's not an idiot, most Epics are trouble. While I was still a few blocks away I began inhaling deeply, even after over 6 months working there I still loved the smell of freshly baked bread, and knowing that it was going to be in my future always helped a lot.Ah.I kept up this calming ritual as I made my way through early traffic, there was only one minor Epic on my route this morning, some local who could catch bullets I think, he was doing the usual Epic thing, glaring at every passerby as though they'd all been personally involved in a plot to kill his mother, some unfortunate soul bumped into him and was treated to a several minute long tirade about how worthless he was.But I was trying to keep under the radar so I couldn't intervene, most people were used to dealing with minor Epics anyway, as long as you stayed out of the way of the more powerful ones you were usually fine. The rest of my walk was uneventful and I started the days work cheerily enough, setting up the displays and filling the shopfront with the fresh bread that the baker had just finished. I helped out sometimes but I just wasn't a morning person. Hank had told me that not being a morning person was a fatal career flaw for an aspiring baker but I didn't mind just minding the register and cleaning up while he did most of the actual baking. I did help out with some of the desserts when I got a chance though, Hank said I was pretty good at the fine touches needed when finishing them off. He recommended I start a cake business but honestly no one bought cakes anymore, cakes were for celebrating and people didn't have much to celebrate these days."Mornin Hank." I mumbled as I raised the shutters and opened up shop."Morning." A voice growled from the back. Our daily ritual complete we spent the next half an hour in silence, each involved in our own tasks. I set up all the displays and found a tray of cookies that had broken up in the oven. I cut them into little pieces and set them up on the counter for free samples, no harm wasting them, they'd look bad like that if they were in a display but everyone liked free samples no matter what they looked like.Hank came out and grunted in approval before grabbing a coke from the fridge.I had no idea where he got those from, no other store sold them and even he only ever had a couple for actual customers, most he kept for himself and if he felt I'd done a particularly good job, me."So, anything comin our way far's you can tell?" He asked gruffly as he set about wiping the counter down, I'd already done it but he always did it when he wanted to come out front and talk."Someone wearing way too much perfume?" I offered, setting him to chuckling. "Other than that not much, might be a burst sewer pipe on my way back tonight, or it might just be some Epic taking a piss on someone, never can tell.""Well that's good to hear, plenty of things that can go wrong that you'd know about, even with your... limitations." He said."Aw shucks Hank you're gonna make me blush."He grunted again before shuffling out back. He was a good sort, not much of a people person but you couldn't really blame him, fire Epic had burned his house down with his wife still inside a few years back, not even deliberately, just in the middle of fighting some other Epic and didn't care if he ruined someones life while he did it.And yet for some reason he still hired me.The morning was slow as it usually was, most people stopped by after work or at lunch time to grab something to eat. A couple of kids came in to try the cookie samples, they wouldn't by anything but I greeted them with a smile anyway, hopefully they'd tell their parents and we'd get something out of it.Lunchtime hit with the usual rush of regulars, I had most of their orders already set aside, dispensing them as quickly as people could walk up to the counter and slam some change on it. Most people greeted me with a smile, others greeted me with a grim stare, one glared at me like he was seriously considering shoving the croissant I'd given him right down my throat. And then there was her, I couldn't quite figure out what it was about her that seemed so familiar, her eyes? her voice? No something else.I think I started to creep her out, she payed quickly and left and just as she turned to leave I smelt it. He perfume, I'd smelled it before but only once, it was the first prediction I'd ever had, right after I'd been taken by Calamity I'd smelt this. What does it mean? I'd thought to myself.I quickly threw my apron over a bench and yelled out to Hank to cover for me for a bit.Asking your boss to cover for you isn't a great idea but I had to know what was up with this woman.I ran out of the shop to a stream of grumbled curses from behind me, relying on that smell of perfume I should be able to track her down in no time.I followed the smell, at each corner I inhaled deeply, probably looking like the weirdest Epic of all time and finally I saw her, walking briskly down a street with another girl. I walked quickly up behind her before I stopped myself to think. What am I supposed to say? 'Hey I smelled you several years ago, I think we're destined to be together'? 'Hey I stalked you here by following your scent'? Oh god why did I do this?I'd almost turned around when I faintly heard her say something to her friend. A name, my name. How the hell does she know my name?I followed them some more before doing my best to try to see what might happen if I talked to her, I smelled into the future and...Ash, burning hot air, scorched hair and smoke, so much smoke. What the? Why was I smelling a fire if I go up to talk to her? And burning hair? That couldn't mean...I ran back the way I'd come, the exertion from the running driving the scent of smoke ever deeper into my nose."Oh I have such a bad feeling about this." I muttered as I sprinted back to the bakery. I was barely a block away when I first saw it, little tendrils of smoke trailing from the bakery roof. I ran through the front, coughing as I fought my way through the thickening haze. How did this happen? Why didn't I notice earlier? I thought. Because I was an idiot and chased after some girl because of her perfume, I smelled the future so the future changed, Hank must have fallen over or something when I left and I was supposed to be here to stop it.I was panting for breath, the combination of smoke and anxiety from this most recent revelation causing me to hyperventilate. In the back I found Hank, unconscious on the floor and with a bad bruise on his head. Scorch marks on one arm.Still having little idea how this had happened I tried to drag him out the front, a group of people had already started a water line to try to contain the fire and a few other men charged into the building to help when they saw me.I collapsed on the ground outside, breathing heavily.Looking into the sky I saw a figure, illuminated in flames staring down at me."I AM NIGHTBURNER!" The figure screamed. "I hear there is a High Epic who lives in this pitiful 'bakery' and I shall abide no other High Epics in my territory, come precog! See if your powers can match mine!"I shook my head duly, not responding to the voice who hadn't seemed to pick me out of the crowd yet.Like everyone else I pretended to have no idea what the fire Epic was talking about, I was just a regular person and regular people didn't fight Epics like that. I just wanted to work in a bakery and not smell horrible things.I never did find out what was special about that woman, I'm not going to try tracking her down again. Not after last time. That might sound like an unsatisfying conclusion to a story but as I said, the literature in this world sucks.I am TheFutureStinks, and this has been my day. 4
Blaze1616 he/him Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 Can I have a basic rundown of Corvallis in case Morpheus ever gets boredof Salem? I see Comatose is reading, so I'll let him explain the thread if he'd like to, since it was his idea to start the thread, and he's it's GM.

Comatose he/him Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 Comatose and Corvallis players, do you think we are good to move the time to Mestiv's characters timeline? So like 11 or so? For most characters, at least. My characters are also caught up, I believe. Kenshin and GOOD might be a little off, but their timeline is fairly self contained at the moment, and can iron itself out I think. Noted, we will wait for Winter and you and then we should be good to go then. Can I have a basic rundown of Corvallis in case Morpheus ever gets boredof Salem? Sure thing! Corvallis is ruled by a powerful High Epic named Rainmaker, who has the ability to distort the weather, among others. Rainmaker has assembled a group of epics, known collectively as the Queens of Corvallis, to assist in her rule. Cornucopia, an epic with the ability to manipulate plants and grow everything from pancakes to minivans, provides the city with food and supplies. Chase, who has the ability to 'tag' vanillas and keep track of them, oversees immigration and does some intelligence work. Buttercup handles security and police, and Blossom handles communications and PR. Their third sister, Bubbles, has the ability to create a large bubble that surrounds the city, protecting it from invasions and allowing the Queens to strictly control traffic in and out of the city and surrounding area. The final Queen, Euphoria, serves as Rainmaker's second in command, and she handles all of the administrative and human resource work involved in running a city. She has the ability to dose vanillas with powerful positive emotions. Using this power, along with her ability to rewrite emotional histories, it's Euphoria's job to keep the vanilla slaves that are the back bone of Rainmaker's city state content in their slavery, and to prevent any rebellions from happening. Euphoria's power is used as a sort of currency, and the slaves of epics who provide favours for Rainmaker, or who are highly ranked or valuable to the city will receive more positive emotion than the slaves of lowly ranked epics. One day ago (in game time) Euphoria went missing. No one knows much about her disappearance yet. Rainmaker and her Queens have discovered an Epic named Insight is involved, and are currently investigating him. Since Euphoria's disappearance, the city has been quietly attacked by Iconoclast, and epic with the ability to convert vanillas into feral ghouls. Rainmaker and the other Queens have been attempting to track down both Iconoclast and Insight with little success thus far, while trying to maintain order in the city as Vanillas react to having their happiness withdrawn. Unknown to the Queens, a vanilla rebellion may be brewing, now that Euphoria is not there to keep the vanillas happy. Generally, Corvallis was meant to be more politically focused, so while we've already had our fair share of action scenes, the main plot is meant to focus on the slow collapse of the city, and the Queen's efforts to stop that from happening, while trying to solve the mystery of Euphoria's disappearance. Let me know if you have any questions. Hurray, finally my huge mistake of jumping ahead of time will be nullified Now I'm gonna stick with you guys on the timeline... You won't get away from my characters for even a second I'll look forward to it! Hopefully I can also get the first Legacy/Peregrine post together so they can enter as well
